Engine check – Australia

29 March 2006 by Keith Collantine

David Coulthard, Red Bull Racing-Ferrari, Sepang, 2006It’s round three this weekend and already some drivers could be using their third engines: Yuji Ide, Christijan Albers and David Coulthard all retired in Bahrain and Sepang – although Coulthard did on the slowing down lap in Bahrain.

Felipe Massa, of course, changed engines twice in Bahrain to get extra tyre testing done for himself and team-mate Michael Schumacher, so his third engine will be on its second race mileage.

Other drivers running an engine that did a full distance in the searing Sepang heat are Malaysian winner Giancarlo Fisichella, Schumacher and brother Ralf, Rubens Barrichello and Jacques Villeneuve.

Everyone else will start Malaysia with a new engine and it will be their second of the season.
