FIA tweak qualifying

6 July 2006 by Keith Collantine

Mark Webber, Williams-Cosworth, Montreal, 2006The F1 Commission has made changes to the Formula One qualifying system ahead of the French Grand Prix. From next weekend’s round at Magny-Cours the third part of qualifying will be cut from 20 minutes to 15.

This will reduce the amount of time drivers spend burning off fuel which has been widely regarded as blatantly bad PR for the sport as the world becomes ever more conscious of environmental concerns.

  1. It’s a start. They still need to get rid of the stupid race fuel rules though.

  2. Laokon says:

Is this the best they could think of or is it a joke? It would be must better to cut the last session to 5 min or less if they have to keep this stupid fule rules…
