F1 in the blogs
In this week’s round-up of bloggers’ thoughts on F1, Jenson Button is nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award but hardly anyone seems to think he should win it.

Nearly 5,000 words on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards – Jenson Button is up for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (for the unitiated, it’s an annual contrivance to make it look like the BBC does any meaningful sports broadcasting). This blogger thinks Button “the weakest nomination in the ten” and suggests other British racers worthy of nomination: Lewis Hamilton, Andy Priaulx and Dan Wheldon. Sadly, the BBC seem just as blind to the world of motorsport beyond F1 as the rest of our national media.
English “Lion” – James here is not terribly taken with Button, but I think bashing him with the same old ‘took over a hundred races to win a Grand Prix’ argument is a little unfair. After all, it’s not as if he’s had the car or team to consistently challenge for victories thus far. His triumph in Hungary this year was an gem of opportunism.
Formula One 2006 Season Review – Emagi re-visit the 2006 season but cop out of picking a ‘best driver’, giving the nod to both Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher. I wouldn’t argue with picking the Spanish Grand Prix as the worst race, though…
Free Fernando Alonso – And the F1 Blog aren’t happy that Alonso can’t get out of his Renault contract to test the McLaren before the season’s end. Why do racing drivers sign contracts beyond the end of racing seasons anyway?
