I think the ban on turbos was a wrong decision. With turning on the turbo boost drivers could pass and re-pass each other on the straights and fast corners. Remember the 1982 and 1988 San Marino Grand Prix'.

The economy runs were opposed by some. But as I have all races from the turbo-era on DVD, I came to the conclusion that the economy runs resulted in interesting and unpredictable races. To win a race the drivers not only needed to be fast but clever too.

As Steve Robertson says, most fans now think the turbo era was Formula 1's golden age!

I look forward to rumours of one-liter + forced-induction hopefully being true; it will lend some honesty to Formula 1 as a motorsport, since at grassroots level, the icons are now compact four-cylinder cars. If it is being considered, I dare FIA to allow 100 bursts of nitrous oxide per race. (None in qualifying.)

I think reliability has improved immensely since the turbocharged era. The one thing I remember was the ability for a driver to just turn the boost up when overtaking. As long as the car made it to then end, without running out of fuel, this could be done for position a good few times each race.

Not many people are heard bomoaning the days of the turbocharger, even though the sound of an F1 engine whistling through a straight at Silverstone was unforgettable.
