Colin Turkington made the most of his BMW’s rear wheel drive to give the German marque its first BTCC win in 11 years.
He dashed past pole sitter Gordon Shedden and kept the Team Halfords Honda driver behind for the rest of the race.
But Turkington’s team mate Tom Onslow-Cole was involved in a collision with Matt Neal and later appeared to block the reigning champion when Neal came by to lap him. Onslow-Cole’s intervention allowed Neal’s team mate Shedden back into second place where he stayed until the end.
Championship contenders Fabrizio Giovanardi and Jason Plato had quiet, points-collecting runs to sixth and seventh.
