How about Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet in 1979? Lauda was the definite number one and it was Piquet's first full season in F1. But the fact that Piquet tended to out-qualify and out-race Lauda began to get to the double champion and, at the second last GP of the season, Canada, he quit abruptly, saying that he no longer wanted to go round and round in circles. It's a bit premature to be so ungrateful. Dennis knows he has the best car in the paddock 2007 and anyone would love the drive for 2008 . The ebb and flow in the Championship may have gone towards Hamilton after Hungary but it is far from over and Alonso will not be squeezed out easily. This one will run and run and there will be tears shed soon....
