2008 British Grand Prix predictions
Who’s going to win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone?
Read my podium predictions and make your own below…
It’s hard bet against Ferrari at the moment. McLaren might have looked quick in testing but the momentum is clearly with the red cars right now.
Kimi Raikkonen had victory in his grasp last time out at Magny-Cours before misfortune intervened.I expect he’ll be on top form again at Silverstone and will be the man to beat.
McLaren should be closer though as their testing pace showed. Lewis Hamilton should be leading their charge and if it the threatened rain materialises he may be able to take the fight to Raikkonen, who didn’t look at all comfortable in the wet at Monaco.
So I’m going for Hamilton to split the two Ferraris, with Raikkonen leading the way:
1. Kimi Raikkonen
2. Lewis Hamilton
3. Felipe Massa
No-one predicted Jarno Trulli would be on the podium at France. However Mac, Daniel, Sush, Felipe Leite, Que Buen Guebo and Cyanide all correctly predicted Massa to head a Ferrari one-two.

1. Hamilton
2. Raikkonen
3. Kubica
I’ve picked Hamilton to win for two reasons. Number one is the likelihood of rain, where he always seems to pick the right path through to a win. Time will if it’s luck or if we have a new rainmaster (apart from Adrian Newey).
Reason number two is that I’ve noticed a trend amongst drivers under fire from the media (and fans) coming out at the next race and smashing everyone else. Raikkonen did it last year, so did Kovi to a degree and Massa certainly did it this year. Add to that DC’s podium in amongst retirement speculation and we’ve got an easy victory for Hammo tomorrow. See how the theory goes this weekend….
Sorry, it was “time will tell”, and I forgot to mention Vettel’s comeback after Fuji….

1] Kimi Raikkonen
2] Lewis Hamilton
3] Fernando Alonso
Raikkonen, Massa, Kubica for me. Hamilton will shock us with a silly mistake that causes him to only score a couple of points.
If there’s rain, we could see Alonso and Hamilton up there as they seem to be the best in the rain, Alonso more so if he is at the front of the field, which is highly unlikely unless fuelled light. I really hope they put him on a better strategy this time - one that they commit to.
Rain:
Hamilton
Alonso
Raikkonen
Dry:
Raikkonen
Massa
Kovalinen (yes, it’s time - he’s driving a McLaren!)
Rain:
)
Alonso
Hamilton
Button (Oh what the heck
Dry:
Raikkonen
Hamilton
Massa
My prediction:
- Hamilton will commit his nth stupid mistake, will not finish the race. Since this year does not have a teammate that competes for the title (is he still competing for the title this year?) he’ll blame anything else.
My bet is for:
- Kimi
- Massa
- Alonso or Kubica
rain:
Hamilton
Raikkonen
Massa
Dry:
Raikkonen
Massa
Hamilton
interesting to see how renault do here….bit iffy abt alonso
woohoo, 5 minutes of fame.
I predict rain.
Force India fighting for 11th.
1. Kimi
2. Massa
3. Heikki
Hmm was going to say Massa \ Kimi \ Alonso.
Then I tuned into ITV practice and Alonso’s engine blew up on Hanger straight and Massa spun out on the oil and wrecked his car!
Oh well! Must have jinxed them.
1. Hamilton
2. Raikkonen
3. Kubica
If Hamilton can keep his head down and remain focused he can win it and silence the critics (for now). He just needs to avoid getting overly rushed and trying too hard. I think he can manage that, he didn’t get to this position by panicing when he had problems in his previous series.
Raikkonen will be super fast and keep it together so he is the main threat. I predict Massa will retire one way or another, especially if there is rain.
Carnage, so many have got the wick turned up to maximum or points to prove aggressively. So a lottery I’d say but the d’crasheris types will all be going off is my guess
conservative then
1. Kova
2. Kubica
3. Webber (but he too might get stuck in a bit more this week)
I’m inclined to say Massa, Kimi, Lewis if it’s dry, which is looking increasingly unlikely giving the forecasts I’ve been following today.
Trulli in the Tumbler (batmobile) jumping to 9th place.
1) Raikonnen
2) Hamilton
3) Massa
If it rains
1) Kubica
2) Raikonnen
3) Super-Ham
1] Hamilton
2] Kova
3] Kubica
I predict that the british GP will be going to Donnington in 2010!!!
It’s got to be done…
1. DC
2. Kimi
3. Heikki
All we need is Hamilton and Massa to both go light to try and get pole, so they have to pit early, DC will qualify in his usual 11th place meaning he’s fat on fuel so pits last, just as the heaven’s open meaning he wins by a good 30 seconds from everyone else who have to make an extra pitstop.
We are allowed to dream aren’t we?
In reality :
1. Kimi
2. Massa
3. Heikki
See, it’s not as much fun that way!
1. kimi
2. alonso
3. hamilton
I really think Kovi feels he has something to prove here so I think he will do will.
My feeling is that without rain we are looking at:
Kimi
Hamilton
Kovi
With rain
Hamilton
Kimi
Button
I think Alonso is having problems with the team being too conservative and that might prevent him taking a risk on tyres whereas I think Button might be prepared to go for it given that he has no other chances of points this year.
hey guys…dont know about first 3 places….but sure know whos at last 2 positons - the FiF1s *condtions apply
i would count alonso out of equation…cuz of renault problems…despite massa crash just after he set the fastest lap i would still go for farraris
Dry
1. Kimi
2. Kubica
3. Hamilton
Wet
1. Kimi
2. Hamilton
3. Alonso
I don’t know why people are counting Kimi out in the wet, apart from a difficult time in the wet in Monaco he’s always shown himself to be pretty quick in the wet.
f1 moving to donnington in 2010!
Rain or shine:
1. Massa
2. Kimi
3. a lottery
“I don’t know why people are counting Kimi out in the wet, apart from a difficult time in the wet in Monaco he’s always shown himself to be pretty quick in the wet.”
Remember his charging run at Fuji in torrential conditions last season? It wasn’t a perfect mastery at rain conditions, but he was quick…and the chase is sometimes easier than the defense.
I’d like:
Kimi
Massa
DC (as it’s his last british GP - and hopefully he’ll say something funny in the post-race conference).
I think 3rd is anyone’s bet at this stage, but Hamilton’s got to be favourite for podium. I’m counting on a Ferrari 1-2 in the dry, maybe a Ferrari 1-3 in the wet.
I’m not sure about Alonso making it to 3rd place in the wet, I think I’m more likely to put Vettel as a more likely candidate…providing he doesn’t ram the back of a Ferrari.
Kimi
Lewis
Felipe
Pole: Lewis
Wet:
Massa
Kimi
Hamilton (but not sure…)
Rain:
DC
Alonso
Vettel
Dry:
Raikkonen
Hamilton
Kovalainen
Wet:
Raikkonen
Alonso
Hamilton
sorry, I meant dry instead of wet…
Lewis
Massa
Kimi
Ummmm… Looking back to these two free practices, I think Heikky is about to outpace Lewis this weekend at least on qualifying. But, as we are seeing through this year, Heikky (when his lucky allow him at least to start) have struggle on race pace, so:
QUALIFYING:
1. Felipe
2. Heikky
3. Lewis
4. Kimi
RACE:
1. Lewis
2. Felipe
3. Kubitza
4. Heikky
Having watched both practice sessions (got to love that live streaming!) I think it is going to be desperately close between McLaren and Ferrari this weekend. Early on in the first session the McLaren’s looked a real handful - very loose at the rear, but as the sessions wore on they have looked more and more stable. I think that fuel loads were a factor in the second session - where Kovalainen was demonstrably quicker - in the first session there was a cigarette paper between Massa and both McLarens. Raikonnen is possibly sandbagging and doing his homework for Sunday - but he did look irked when the cameras showed him getting out of the car at the end of the morning session.
I’m going to put in a REAL prediction, not just the top 3, that’s a little too easy…
First off: RAIN
1. Kubica
2. Hamilton
3. Kovalainen
4. Alonso
5. Heidfeld
6. Raikkonen
7. Coulthard
8. Sutil

10. Webber
11. Trulli
12. Barichello

I think this is most thought we’ve put into a GP prediction section all season!!
I’ll bet that it rains, so with that said..
1. Kubica
2. Hamilton
3. DC
Kimi is preparing for the race and possibly w/ a wet set-up. Notice that he did not use soft tyres at all in P2. Also notice that if you add up each driver’s fastest sector times in P1, Kimi was quickest of all, although by just a hair over Kovalainen. I like Lewis to get pole and Kimi to win, whether it rains or not.
1. Kimi
2. Lewis
3. Kovalainen
Raikkonen
Massa
Hamilton
Kimi
Massa
Kovi
Pole : Lewis
Race :
1. Kimi
2. Lewis
3. Kovi
It’ll rain.
1. Hamilton
2. Webber
3. Vettel
In the rain…WEBBER will try an audacious overtake at STOWE causing KOVALAINEN to spin on the outside, RAIKKONEN will lockup going for the inside line and HAMILTON will run into the back of him, spinning RAIKKONEN and losing his nose and damaging the tracking…Yellows will fly, KOVALAINEN and HAMILTON will be out,WEBBER will rejoin after pitting so will RAIKKONEN.
1 ALONSO
2 HEIDFELD
3 MASSA
1. Hamilton
2. Kovaleinen
3. Webber
I honestly can’t see the ferraris doing anything and would be disapointed with webber if he screwed up after a tremendous qualifying today.
