I appear to disagree with the majority. The race did have its dramatic moments (the first lap, Lewis’ puncture, Raikkonen putting pressure on Glock and Massa’s retirement), but the majority of it was actually quite dull! Not the worst the Hungaroring has produced, but still…

Agreed. The actual RACE was dull as ditchwater, exactly what you expect from Hungary. However, at least enough interesting events/stories cropped up during, such as
Massa’s great start
Hamilton’s puncture
Glock on podium on merit
Multiple refuelling fires/dramas
Massa’s dramatic engine failure near the end
Kovalainen’s maiden win
to at least inject a bit of drama into the event, and raise it to a 5 in my book. But yes the actual race was rubbish.

A boring race, eh? but my Mr. McKay could actually make a LIST of interesting points, we’ve had surprises here the last 2 or 3 races which were not boring AND the stands look sold out to me, can’t say that at Bahrain, or some of Bernie’s glitzy new circuits!!!!! I suppose to please everyone it should have RAINED! Frankly it was nice to see Massa put the media darling in his place, he actually put 4 seconds on him in the first 12 laps, that alone was worth the ticket price, I rated the race an 8.

I was surprised that the race was as good as it was to be honest. Looking at the grid at the start, I expected the McLaren’s to take a comfortable one-two finish with Massa third, and possibly Alonso or Raikkonen fourth.
When Massa nailed Kovalainen I was not totally surprised, but when he nailed Hamilton comfortably outpacing afterwards, my expectations were raised considerably. I can remember twenty years ago, that the pundits were saying bad things about the Budapest circuit.
‘Monaco without the houses’, ‘no places to overtake’, and so on. Then Nigel Mansell back in 1989 showed to everybody that overtaking was possible there, if desire and enough horsepower were in enough abundance.
It would seem that the last three grands prix in Hungary have produced more entertaining spectacles. The 2006 race, in the rain, Alonso on Schumacher, Alonso’s turn two wheel nut fiasco, and Jenson Button’s maiden win.
2007 with the meltdown at McLaren, and enough rumour and speculation to entertain a whole army of bloggers worldwide, long into the winter.
And now today’s show. I would give it around 6/7 out of ten. There were enough surprises to make it worth the effort.

You’re easily pleased. Old Chinese proverb say “a puncture and an engine blow-up a great race do not make”.
Like I say there were a couple of interesting events that happened. But there was no wheel to wheel action. You are entitled to your opinion, but if you rated that an 8 what the heck did you give Silverstone, Monaco, Canada, Australia? 15??

I really fail to see how the average vote can fall between ‘8 – Great’ and ‘6 – Not bad’.
On lap 1 a Ferrari overtook 2 McLarens.
An hour later on lap 40, a tyre on a McLaren went down a bit.
27 laps after that, the lead car’s engine folds in on itself.
Oh, and some stuff caught fire every now and then.
For me, that was the race, approximately 3 minutes of ‘highlights’ from just under 100 minutes of Grand Prix racing. I really can’t remember anything else happening. And it’s not like anything interesting happened in qualifying either.
Yes, it was good that we have a new first win for a driver, but he’s in a McLaren, which for me is hardly as exciting as Kubica’s win in Montreal, which was the first for the driver and the team, coming from seemingly nowhere after an all-round exciting race.
And to add to all this, Bernie has extended this awful track’s contract until the middle of the next decade. Great, cheers for that Mr. More-Money-Than-Sense.
On the brighter side of things, I cannot wait for the next grand prix at Valencia. The track looks excellent, and although Filipe slightly redeemed himself in my eyes for his Hungary performance, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this jumped-up test driver either a) stick it in a wall, or b) drive too cautiously around Valencia’s harbour to challenge for the lead or even the podium.

Oh, yes, i forgot to say I rated the race ‘2 – Rubbish’.
And only because a rating of ‘1 – Terrible’ is reserved for ever Spanish grand prix from the last 15 years.
