However, it was Montoya's performance that caught my attention and reminded me of why there was such a fuss made about him back then. A great pass on Schumacher at turn one, the race lead, only thwarted by a blown BMW engine. Like I said, I am not Montoya's greatest fan, but he did deserve better for some of his performances. The Williams of that era was by no means slow, and looked the measure of the Ferrari's on that occasion. It was their tendancy to break down that cost Montoya dearly. I have often wondered what relations would have been like, had Montoya stayed on at McLaren and paired up with Alonso? Isn't Kubica the first Pole in F1- therefore he had to be the first Pole winner (bad pun).
