I think a lot of F1 fand would consider the 1970's the 'golden era' of F1. But reading that story about Montjuich Park puts things into perspective. Organisers blackmailing the teams into racing. Armco barriers not doing their job. Spectators dying and a driver breaking his legs. What a disgrace.

Of course modern F1 has it problems, but if I had to choose between F1 being deadly or 'boring' then I know exactly which I'd prefer

I've been to Barcelona several times, and I must say the Montjuïc is very impressive. The fast sweeping corners on the west side of the mountain have massive gradient. Must have been thrilling to race on.

A side note: with Singapore and Valencia introducing new street circuits, perhaps Barcelona could reinstate theirs. Modern-day safety measures should enable that, wouldn't they?

The city would, however, have to remove a couple of roundabouts near the Olympic stadium.
