If only they knew the legacy they'd become, perhaps it would've never happened. Which is why racing heritage is so valued now, everything was born out of something and it's important to remember roots and the good and the bad times.

journeyer-that is a crime. unbelievable. i always imagined there was some hidden door at the factory with a golden key or something...you know, like if you buy ten ferrari's you get to take a peek at the real goodies, not just the factory tour you get with one. how odd to want to not want to preserve at least one of each.

thanks.

verasaki,

"i was wondering how literally to take this sentence: “From 1956 to 1962, Ferrari retired his spent Formula 1 cars to the scrap heap,..”

did ferrari keep at least one of each of their racing cars or was there a time that they just scrapped them? my jaw just dropped and my blood ran cold when i read that."

Nope, all of them were ordered to be sent to the scrap heap. As a result, almost none of the cars from that era survived to this day. The very few that made it were hid from the Commendatore's presence until his death.

at least they lost the "orange-red" marlboro colours. i think they deepened the red starting some time last season. the original marlboro red was just offensive after seeing them in ferrari red for so many years.

Terry Fabulous: I like the Marlboro colors, especially the paint on the McLarens of Senna's days. The red and white looks good.

sounds like a great idea. but i have to admit, in '01 the cynic in me sort of did wonder how much red paint weighs. (if i had emoticons i'd put a smiley thingy at the end of that).

a complete aside: when i was looking at some of the phil hill tributes, i found this:

http://www.philhill.com/biography_7.html

i was wondering how literally to take this sentence: "From 1956 to 1962, Ferrari retired his spent Formula 1 cars to the scrap heap,.."

did ferrari keep at least one of each of their racing cars or was there a time that they just scrapped them? my jaw just dropped and my blood ran cold when i read that.

don't forget yer sunblock, keith. you don't want to start looking like bernie.
