Fantastic review Ben- you have done an outstanding job of not letting the drama and pasison of the championship finale cloud your judgement when looking at the big picture. A few of my thoughts on your comments...

- Your note about Massa being excellent at Interlagos and tracks he likes is very good- most people forget he was on pace to win there last season before moving over for Kimi. Just don't forget to add Istambul to that list.

- I very much enjoy the fact that you were not afraid to point out China being a boring race, as many other had been too busy being swept up in the championship chase to notice.

- As an American, many thanks for the note about lack of representation in North America. Indeed, the stands were always packed here (love or hate Indy, it still brought in over 100,000) and indeed the teams want to race here. Also, great description of Europe as being "under-represented", as it is horrible to see so many GPs in F1's home market be put under threat or dropped altogether.

- The driver summaries were all very good. Also, great job of breaking down the incident at Spa.

Great review!

You're right about Bourdais, he deserves a second season. I can't help thinking Renault would be wise to find a way out of their deal with Piquet and snap him up. A solid french driver in a Renault, surely that makes great marketing sense?

Alarmist? Not at all. Bernie's all consuming intrest in making money from the sport is going to destroy it. F1 won't end but it will be a shadow of the glory years, of which this year most certainly was not.

Canada an event that always sells out, benefits the sponsers by being in prime time in Europe is gone while China which apparently the locals either can't afford or aren't interested in stays?

Once again the FIA interfered in a predictable manner to prop up Ferrari. Argue if you must but when it comes to putting words in a stewards mouth you have crossed an ethical line. And how does one explain Bourdais's penality in an honest and rational manner.

Max loves controversy, I'd say he feeds off of it, and this year Max got fat. He has parlayed his power into a position where others fear to confront him or know that if they do there will be consequences.

I like Ferrari and I love Kimi however my team is Mclaren and I do like Lewis so I am vey pleased they won the championship that matters. Suck on that Max.

Oh yeah BTW Max F1 aficionados do care deeply about the technology involved and if I hear the argument they don't one more time I'm gonna snap and go on a tear. (whatever that means.

A brilliant summary.

But you haven't glorified 2008 as much as I would have liked.
But then; for me, 2008 is like the mother of all seasons :)
