Alain Prost’s son Nicolas wants Ferrari F1 test

1 December 2008 by Keith Collantine

With his new title as European F3000 champion, Nicolas Prost has targeted a Formula 1 test for Ferrari.

Prost, the 27-year-old son of the former quadruple world champion and team owner Alain Prost, secured the crown at the Magione circuit in Italy.

He started his career late, at the age of 22, but has since collected experience in junior single seaters, at Le Mans, and in the A1 series driving for France.

Prost said: “I hope this title can help me in the future and I would like to do a test with Ferrari.”

His father Alain, who had a tumultuous Ferrari tenure in 1990 and 1991, acknowledged that Nicolas’ “dream” is a Ferrari test “and we’ll see what we can do”.

“To get a seat at 27 certainly isn’t easy,” he added.

Well, I would like a test with Ferrari, too. ;)

I’m getting tired of all that bunch of sons of ….(here, any famous oldie F1 driver). Formula 1 should be a constant flow of new talented drivers. It isn’t a place for new Rosbergs, Sennas, Prosts, and all that stuff that could come. I want real talent, not a huge amound of money buying a seat because of popularity, fame, publicity incomes and glamour…..

Bring me back my old F1, please.

  3. Too Good says:

To give due credit Alain is realistic in acknowledging , 27 yrs is probably too little too late for any chance of getting F1 test and possible F1 race seat opportunity.

  4. Tengil says:

I don’t mind anyone getting just a test on the merits of their name, although my greatest fear in life is that the obnoxious Mansell boys will bully themselves into F1 too, F1 TNG ;)

This sounds like some of Bernie’s crap, why would a 27 frenchman who has never driven in F1 year old want a Ferrari test. Sounds like Bernie is teasing just so the french put back the GP.

I think Brad Spurgeon has made an interesting point in the matter today:

“…Now, in nearly complete anonymity Nicolas Prost has won an important international title in a stepping stone series to F1. Both drivers started racing late. Nicolas Prost is two years older than Bruno Senna. But he started racing in 2003 and Senna in 2004. Their climb up the categories and their mixed results have been similar. Senna, however, has benefited from being under the spotlight from the beginning, with all the right, sympathetic contacts in Formula One thanks to his illustrious uncle. He’s the cover story in the current issue of Autosport, in fact. (Don’t get me wrong, I am a Bruno Senna fan and I like the man, from what I’ve seen of him and through the interview I did with him this year.) Alain Prost, on the other hand, despite his four titles, most certainly does not have the same number of allies and well-wishers in Formula One that Ayrton Senna still has.

Will Nicolas Prost make it to Formula One? I doubt it. But on paper, at least, as of yesterday he probably deserves a tryout there more than Bruno Senna does.
    …”

Other point made by Brad is that, contrary to Nicolas, Bruno never won any championship on his short career and he [Brad] can’t remember a driver who would get a seat in Formula 1 without winning anything at lower Formulas.

And this didn’t happen in “your old” F1? Just because your name isn’t famous doesn’t mean that money wasn’t instrumental in developing your career. This is just as true now as it was in 1970. A little more objectivity and less unfounded nostalgia.

Good on him. I think I shall pop out a press release and see who looks me up.

He reminds me of Tobias Funke in Arrested Development blagging his way into a movie studio and standing round the water cooler saying ‘That Funke is really something, isn’t he?’ to all and sundry. He never gets a gig.
