Red Bull RB5 due in March

30 December 2008 by Keith Collantine

Red Bull Technology’s 2009 Formula 1 car, to be used by the energy drink company’s two teams next year, will not roll out of the Milton Keynes factory until March.

That is the revelation of Sebastien Buemi, Red Bull Racing’s test driver who is expected to step up to the Toro Rosso race seat for the forthcoming season.

Citing Buemi’s information, the French sports daily L’Equipe said Red Bull Racing, the senior team, will therefore have “only one test session” to prepare the car for the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

L’Equipe said Faenza based Toro Rosso will also have to wait until March to receive the new car.

The new Red Bull had been expected to make its track debut in mid February.

why that late? almost every other team shows their car in januari…
does this mean that Red Bull and Torro Rosso will not be competitive in the first couple of races because they don’t have their race setups??

  2. Aaron Shearer says:

Bassfigher it may be due to the fact they could be late with there KERS system and Mark Webber being in hospital?

If anything, Mark Webber’s leg injuries would be a reason to bring the car’s testing debut forward not back. Delays with KERS is more likely - perhaps RBR wants to hit the ground running with a fully KERS enabled car from the first race? Taking a cautious approach with an interim car isn’t typical Adrian Newey.

Bassfighter - RBR and STR will be able to create pretty effective baseline setups from previous data and simulations. It shouldn’t be a huge problem.

Its because the over rated Adrian Newey car will take an age to get set up since the last one was so rubbish it got beaten by the previous model!

  5. Bassfighter says:

ok, maybe you’re all right… but I dont think they will do a better job as other teams, besides that, the drivers must feel good in the car’s and with such a small test distance I doubt that they will be competitive

  6. they are leaving it a bit late

With the testing ban next season I think they are leaving it a bit late. Considering the amount of changes for next season I assume they will still use interim cars to test parts of the new car and slick tyres before the RB5 is actually launched.
