Speaking of the BT49…

“I consider the Brabham BT49 to be better than any Lotus ever produced. Nothing before or since has been so pure, elegant and satisfying to the eye as the BT49.” Clive reacting to a comment on F1 Fanatic.

The Top Formula One Driver on Facebook

“And how do Nascar drivers compare? Not too well. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has 18,781 fans, which would put him in fifth on the Formula One list. Most of the other drivers have a ways to go to catch up to even Robert Kubica’s level of Facebook popularity (12,768). The three-time Sprint Cup champion, Jimmie Johnson, has only 6,545 fans. Tony Stewart has 8,563 fans.”

Behind the Scenes at BBC Sport

“One final point to answer is whether the BBC signing F1 will affect the MotoGP coverage and the answer is yes, but only in a positive way. We will be working with the F1 team to maximize opportunities to promote MotoGP. David Coulthard is part of the F1 team and a bike fan too who has come to the race in Brno for the last few years. The races don’t clash as the rights holders are keen to avoid this and the start times are offset on dates where both series are racing. The British MotoGP will follow the Hungarian F1 meaning we get to put the Donington race on BBC One, which is fantastic.”

Mateschitz: No hurry to sell STR

“Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz says there is no rush for his company to sell the Toro Rosso team, and he will only let it go to a buyer who can guarantee its future.”

Technical analysis: Diffuser debacle

“FIA sources have revealed that a diffuser design related to the current intrigue has been approved – although it has not been confirmed whether this is one used by Williams or Toyota.”

Dennis: Independent team model ‘anachronistic’

“I firmly believe that the business model of a Formula One team operating as a financial entity on its own is an anachronistic one?óÔé¼?ª[but] little will change in terms of Mercedes-Benz’s involvement. Mercedes-Benz is a fantastic shareholder and partner of McLaren, and has been for many years. We’ve achieved a huge amount together.”

  1. STR: Is the pressure off Dietrich Mateschitz, now that the rules appear to have changed? Is he allowed to keep two teams – and label STR as a ‘Customer’?
