Williams duo Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were fastest in the first practice session of 2009 at Melbourne.
Kimi Raikkonen was third ahead of the impressive Brawn GP car of Rubens Barrichello. Heikki Kovalainen raised McLarens hopes with sixth.

Great to see things being jumbled up – but it’s still early doors to say whats really what at FP1 @ Aus.
Shame my first taster of F1 2009 will also be my taster of how I’m going to follow it over the weekend: trying to write my dissertation at the same time!

Didn’t expect williams to top times.Even with diffuser and light load.Neither could i believe that both force indias were faster than hamilton.So i am pretty sure this is not the correct timing’s. People are testing different parts.We may know the true speeds only tom…

There is no one I’d rather see return to the front than Sir Frank. Is there any team that has fallen from such a height and handled it with such sportsmanship and grace? Hope this holds in some form through the weekend, we all deserve a bit of the up-side of F1 after all the FIA’s calafractous gagnausea.

yeah for sure, especially since they are the longest running privateer team, VERY hard to sustain a competitive team without huge manufacturer backing – but they are doing it and it’s great to see.
would be even better if all their sponsors stop jumping ship, a good start to the season will hopefully help them sign some new big sponsors to sustain them in the long term.
speaking of sponsors on privateer teams, brawngp announcing virgin group as a major sponsor soon… :D

as much as i like massa, i think kimi is going to really turn a new leaf this year and dominate at ferrari again, he took a bit of a back seat and massa shined last year, but i think the new car and tires suit kimi’s driving much more.
