Lewis Hamilton has been promoted to third place in the Australian Grand Prix after Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second penalty by the stewards. Trulli’s penalty, for overtaking Hamilton during the final safety car period, relegates him from third to 12th.
Brawn GP grabbed an historic one-two finish in the dying stages of the Australian Grand Prix. It cemented an unbelievable transformation for the team that massively under-performed in 2007 and 2008, was sold by Honda over the winter, and rescued by a management buy-out just a few weeks before the season began.
Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel clashed in dramatic fashion in the dying stages of the Australian Grand Prix. Kubica was catching Vettel and leader Jenson Button at the time and looked set to mount an improbable bid for victory – instead his race and Vettel’s ended in the barriers.
Ferrari got their 2009 season off to a terrible start in Melbourne. Felipe Massa retired late in the race and Kimi Raikkonen lost a points finish after spinning into the barriers.
