You can pretty much guarantee Sutil will be moved back to last.

Is three places normal? I thought it was typically five for anything.

wow, i know the commentators focused on the improvements to McLaren and Ferrari, but when you look at the entire grid its closer than ever before, less than 8 tenths of a second between 1st and 20th. amazing stuff this year.

Well then you are comparing Q1 times with Q3 times. That’s cars driving on vapor vs fuelled cars. BTW it’s the same difference as last year (if I discount the Super Aguri being an extra 2 seconds off)
Still they are indeed pretty close. Especially considering the wildly different cars. A second and a halve isn’t a lot.

graigchq, the gap is much wider than that. There are errors on the above time sheet.

when do we know fuel weights?

8tenths just cause of the fueled qualifying. best we to establish the real gab is to compare 15-20 positions with Q2 times…even then that might not be very accurate but its a much better indicator.
I think BrawnGp lack of testing is finally catching up with them.

Was Sutil doing his own fast lap at the time?

Sutil blocked Webber on purpose because he was about to set his fast lap and he didn’t want a driver ahead of him.
Apparently the team didn’t warn him that Webber was coming on his fast lap, so Sutil assumed Webber was on an outlap too.

What’s amazing is that the gap between 1st and 20th is only 2 secs in reality. With new rules it’s amazing that the gap isn’t closer to the Minardi days where cars were being lapped after 10-12 laps, and fuel-adjusted, there was generally 5-6 secs between the cars. I guess all of this cost cutting might be something to do with it, so a budget cap (if the FIA see sense and make it universal, if they’re going to do it) would in my mind keep, or even lessen, the existing gaps.
Far from ruin Formula 1, it looks like the financial “crisis” might well improve the sport we love. Bring on the close racing!
