Here’s a round-up of F1 news and other interesting links I’ve found today.

F1 rumours overshadow NASCAR

"La Presse reported that only a few details and a couple million dollars in additional funding remain to be sorted out before the deal is done. The federal, provincial and civic governments will invest more than $16.5 million a year to secure the race for Montreal, in partnership with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, the report says."

Sepang set to turn back the clock

"Ecclestone, 78, initially refused to change the 5pm time slot implemented this year, but he told Today that next year's race will now start an hour earlier." Hopefully that will prevent a repeat of this year’s farce.

Todt talks about his campaign

Todt criticises Vatanen's plan to reform the FIA elections procedure: "It would concentrate power and decision-making in the FIA in the hands of a just a few mobility clubs that have large memberships simply because they happen to exist in countries with large populations. That would be unfair and undemocratic."

Vatanen announces cabinet members

"Bernard Tay from Singapore has been nominated as Deputy President for Mobility, while German Hermann Tomczyk has been proposed as deputy president for motorsport."

Ferrari aim to ditch Kimi Raikkonen

"The Italian giants have told the 2007 world champion he can have half the value of his 2010 contract — thought to be worth £25million — to end it one year early. That could open the door for Fernando Alonso to join Felipe Massa in a Ferrari cockpit next season — and for Robert Kubica to become Renault team leader."

A visit to Jarno Trulli’s vineyard

Typical of someone who works in Formula 1, the attention to detail and quest for perfection are clear to see. They use modern versions of the old vertical press system, which is far more time consuming and expensive than the new horizontal presses used by most large scale winemakers, but it means better quality wine and that is what matters to them. Everything is about quality."

Keith – did you read this link?:

Heikki Kulta, a Finnish insider who is very influent, seems to know something about the Concord Agreement and the clause about the third car is in place:

    — At least 20 cars in grid guaranteed
    — If needed, a 3rd car without points for drivers and constructors
    — If a 3rd car finishes in top 8, it takes points away from the cars behind it
    — Teams using 3rd car are drawn. They get 20% bigger budget for that race
    — Cheaper superlicenses: 1609 € + 440 €/point
    — No alternative series until end of 2012
—Less power for FIA president: all regulations through FOTA technical workgroup and F1 commission.
    — Simple majority between teams will change rules
    — Only Ferrari will have a veto

    1. —Less power for FIA president: all regulations through FOTA technical workgroup and F1 commission.

iif toad gets into power he’ll appoint Max as Commisioner

Also, with the decrease in budgets, does that mean Ferrari will have spare cash to invest in Rallying or some other discipline.

I hope they make a Monster Truck myself, HA!.

  2. Be great to have Montreal back on the calendar – its a great circuit! :)

  3. Wouldn’t having 3 cars possibly mean more simultaneous testing of parts on Fridays, and give somewhat of an advantage?

  4. How did Bourdais want to be fired then?

    1. His departure was easier than Scott Speed’s at least!

Oops, should have added good post! Waiting for your next one!

  6. Vatanen has to be as dumb as a doornail. Amazing. Did Mosley put him up to running just so no real candidates would stand up?

First he comes out whining about Todt’s unfair advantage. He’s right of course, but what’s the point of whining about it?

Now he threatens to take the vote of the smaller countries away. Brilliant. Who will all these smaller countries vote for? The guy who promises to take their vote away or the one who hands them “development” money and lets them keep their vote. Tough call …
