Just four rounds left in the ultra-close F1 Fanatic predictions championship.

Here’s how the game works:

1. Predictions have to be made before the beginning of final practice on Saturday.
2. Only one set of predictions per person.
3. You have to predict (a) Who will be on pole position and (b) What the top three finishers (three different drivers) will be.
4. Players score:
a. ten points for correctly guessing the pole sitter
b. ten points for naming one of the top three in their correct position, 25 for naming two of the top three and 50 for naming the whole top three correctly
c. five points for correctly naming any other driver in the top three (but not in the correct position)
5. Predictions must be entered as described below and either posted in a comment below or emailled to competition-at-f1fanatic.co.uk
6. Whoever scores the most points over the 15 races from round three (China) to 17 (Abu Dhabi) wins the grand prize.
7. In the event of a tie the winner will be determined by who picked to most race winners correctly, then second places finishers and so on.
8. In the event of a dispute the editor’s decision is final.

NB. Update – Clarification: For the purposes of the competition the pole sitter is the driver who starts the original race from pole position. The race classification is that issued by the FIA.

Ooh! This is going to be a toughie. I guess I’ll wait for saloolas & dougie to make theirs ;)

    • Sush Meerkat said on 25th September 2009, 18:07

LOL, You know what I never thought of that!, but i’m not the villain type.

Can I make a suggestion Keith and Ian?, since MP4 but forward such a good comment with regards to the F1Fanatic championship, could you hide the predictions until the start of Quali?.

Since if I start beating Dougie and Saloolas I then have the ability to see their predictions and then make my predictions exactly like theirs?, since doing so would assure me to stay ahead of them.

  2. UnicornF1 said on 25th September 2009, 16:21

    piece of cake :P

  3. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 16:24

Can you start predictions any time? I know I have no hope of winning but it seems fun :)

Haven’t you started yet?? There are I think 250+ points up for grabs & the leader saloolas & dougie are on 205 I think. So mathematically you’ve still got a chance.

      By all means, join in!

    • Sush Meerkat said on 25th September 2009, 18:04

join in Steph, its great fun, adds another dimension to the race, well for me it does.

as an example, Sutil is about to get pole at Monza, I start cheering since I love Sutil… then I stop and think “wait, he’s not on my prediction!, stop stop!”

    • SaloolaS said on 25th September 2009, 20:11

If you want to win, this is the last race to start with. With 3 races to go it will only be 180 more points available, which means that people who haven’t predicted yet can’t win.

  4. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 16:34

thanks mp4 oo so I can start then, brilliant. I’ve been making up for not predicting on here by putting on bets…it wasn’t a good plan :P

  5. Keith, can you do me a favour? I’m the “The_Philosopher” guy on the championship table, but it’s a rubbish nickname I used to use when I was a kid in english-language forums, so can you please chance it to my name, Guilherme Teixeira?

I’ll enter my prediction as Guilherme Teixeira, so please, would you change it? =)

    • Sush Meerkat said on 25th September 2009, 18:03

I think the Philosopher is a rather good avatar name.

Stick to it, but I understand why you would want to change it to Guilherme Teixeira, since its a more “unique” name to have.

  6. Hey Steph, our predicions got messed up because we sent it at the same second! =O
(at least it’s messed up on my screen)

    So here’s my prediction:

    Barrichello
    Barrichello
    Button
Raikkonen (just to keep the streak of podiums \o/)

    • Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine) said on 25th September 2009, 17:05

Actually I’d rather people stuck to the names they were using to begin with. It takes a bit of time to change them all round and that means I have less time to get other stuff done on the site. But as you’ve already used a different name I haven’t really got a choice. Can everyone else please stick to their original names at least until the end of the season?

Not sure why the table has corrupted there but I’ll get it sorted.

      • Hey Keith, i wonder if you could help. Ive been using the name Robert for the predictions since it began but someone has in this race has used the same name. Is there anything that could be done? Thanks.

        • Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine) said on 25th September 2009, 20:19

This is a problem we haven’t got a very good solution for at the moment. I’ve changed the prediction that was made for this round only from ‘Robert’ to ‘Robert2′ so you should be free to use your name. In future we need to find a way of tying usernames to email addresses.

I wonder if alonso will go on a 14 lap strategy….
    grosjean is also training it!

  8. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 16:56

    sorry guilherme :(

  9. Bartholomew said on 25th September 2009, 16:57

It would be remarcable if Alonso won on a 14 lap strategy and Ferrari messed up in the pits !

  10. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 16:59

Keith my predictions are half missing
    They were
    Hamilton
    Barrichello
    Hamilton
    Button
I think…lol today is just one of those days :P

  11. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 17:19

I know mp4 first time and I cause havoc and nearly ruin someone elses predictions!
Thanks Keith, and sorry for inadvertently provoking a mess :S

  12. UnicornF1 said on 25th September 2009, 17:28

@steph90: Amazing “luck” :p It could be for good, you never know ;)

@Keith: Hey, you copied my prediction. Now I will never surpass you

  13. steph90 said on 25th September 2009, 17:33

    hope so unicornf1 :)

  14. ILoveVettel said on 25th September 2009, 17:55

    Keith,

Could you please guys add a ranking in the results along with the points scored. That gives a fair indication of the position everybody is in.

By the way, I am in mid table :D

    • Sush Meerkat said on 25th September 2009, 18:00

I prefer it without the ranking, it streamlines the table and makes it look alot cleaner… like a an Apple Mac product….

OH GOD CHANGE IT NOW! i want the ranking back!

three cheers for Ian Haycox!, what a marvelous little plug in, this week my prediction went without a hitch but I think I was one of the first to predict so no doubling on the database.

Its a wonderful thing when the community of a website helps out the website founder in such a way, it actually makes me warm and fuzzy inside knowing my compatriots on this site like it as much as me yet have the ability to help Keith out.

Unless Ian is charging Keith, in which case, boo! BOOO!! your a nasty man! :D

    • ianhaycox said on 25th September 2009, 19:02

:-) It’s all Open Source and free. Just for that I’m going to have to out-predict you :-)

      • Sush Meerkat said on 25th September 2009, 19:21

boo boo! no your a nasty man!. :D

Have you seen my comemnt up top in reply to MP4, its a valid point I feel with regards to the closing stages of this league we have.

        • ianhaycox said on 25th September 2009, 21:14

There is already an option in the plugin to prevent showing predictions until after you have predicted.

If other predictors and Keith agree then it could be turned on/off. Personally I vote without looking first otherwise it might influence my decision then I’d be really annoyed if my first choice was better.

It’s a bit like looking at your mates lottery numbers and missing out on the jackpot :-)

      Me too!

In fact, I’ve got a few ideas for other projects like this so if anyone wants to help out, please say so!
