The F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship is finely balanced with just three races left. And with little meaningful running at Suzuka on Friday it’s going to be even harder than ever to get those predictions right.
Guess the Japanese Grand Prix pole sitter and top three finishers below.
The prizes
First place prize
- An original F1 painting by Rob Ijbema
- Five F1 DVDs from Duke Video: “Formula One 1970: The uncrowned champion”, “Formula Villeneuve: A tribute to Gilles Villeneuve”, “The World’s Greatest F1 Cars”, “Champion: Hill” and “Nine Days in Summer”
- £60 to spend on F1 merchandise at Onpole.com
3x Runners-up prizes
- Copies of “Lotus Goes Turbo” DVDs from Duke Video
- £30 to spend on F1 merchandise at Onpole.com
Here’s how the game works:
1. Predictions have to be made before the beginning of final practice on Saturday.
2. Only one set of predictions per person.
3. You have to predict (a) Who will be on pole position and (b) What the top three finishers (three different drivers) will be.
4. Players score:
a. ten points for correctly guessing the pole sitter
b. ten points for naming one of the top three in their correct position, 25 for naming two of the top three and 50 for naming the whole top three correctly
c. five points for correctly naming any other driver in the top three (but not in the correct position)
5. Predictions must be entered as described below and either posted in a comment below or emailled to competition-at-f1fanatic.co.uk
6. Whoever scores the most points over the 15 races from round three (China) to 17 (Abu Dhabi) wins the grand prize.
7. In the event of a tie the winner will be determined by who picked to most race winners correctly, then second places finishers and so on.
8. In the event of a dispute the editor’s decision is final.
9. For the purposes of the competition the pole sitter is the driver who starts the original race from pole position. The race classification is that issued by the FIA.

Having trouble making your predictions?
For those having problems predicting, it is because a check is made to prevent multiple predictions within a week. However, because of timezone issues and the fact the if you predicted later last time and early this time it falls within the week.
Two options:
1. Wait until this evening and try again.
2. Delete the cookie motorracingleague_2 in your browser. Depending on the browser there should be an option to find/print/delete cookies. If you don’t know what I’m talking about use option 1.

I hope that knock on the head for Massa hasn’t damaged his rationale . Very sad to hear him speak this. Even Hamilton was surprised.

Rich Brazilians love feeling sorry for themselves as a way of working up a false sense of injustice when they in fact get everything on a plate. Try arguing with Massa that Hamilton was unfairly robbed of a sensational win at Spa in his favour thanks to Ferrari’s power over FIA. Wouldn’t even listen.
steph90
2nd October 2009, 14:15
Can’t really blame him to be honest, he can be a fiery character and it is true the results were influnced but it is how you cope with them and even if the crash hadn’t of happened who knows what the outcome of that race would have been.
lewis fans will defend his title, Massa’s will be split with scratching their heands thinking it should bee left alone or feeling completely robbed. Either way both deserved the title and it is a shame the actions of a few have taken some of the shine off a very impressive championship year.

OK but I have no sympathy for anyone who’d be happy to see an injustice done to someone else – Hamilton – so he himself could benefit. The TV coverage in Brazil mentioned Ferrari might have til November to appeal for the Singapore 2008 result to be rescinded due to fraud and the title given to Massa. Who says they won’t suddenly pursue this at the end of the season? (especially if Todt becomes FIA president???) Noises keep being made about this possibility. That would be ridiculously unsporting on numerous levels – not least because the real problem for Massa last year was Ferrari pit lane incompetence not Piquet. And a different result would have altered strategies and motivations for all the subsequent races. If Massa feels robbed, he should imagine how robbed Hamilton would feel if the title was taken from him. But he won’t imagine that because the issue isn’t justice but his own frustration at failing to land the title last year.
steph90
2nd October 2009, 18:21
True that would be horrible because a championship should never be settled in court, I think it will die down but I can understand his frustration (and I imagine Lewis must be too as his title is coming into question)
Ino
2nd October 2009, 14:46
I’m glad it’s not just me thinking that those comments were very strange and not like Massa at all. He also mentioned something about talking to lawyers about what they can do. I am surprised he thinks he would have a chance of being crowned World Champion a year later, and even more surprised that he would actually want to do it.

He’s a fiery latin, its in his blood to be angry when felt done wrong.
I pretty sure he said to Kimi when he joined that he’s not his team leader since he’s the newkid, so Kimi said yeah ok, if you beat me you get the leading car.
