David Gant the CEO of the SA GP Bid Company has been trying to get this off the ground for several years, but was struggling with land rights next to Cape Town Intl Airport and with financing (and that BEFORE the financial crisis). His plans included getting the Western Province Motor Club to relocate from Killarney Motor Racing Track, all well and good, but they weren't interested in moving.

Haven't heard any more about this since summer 2007.

I remember when I was younger and there was a grand prix on during the night, so probably Australia or Japan, when the clocks changed and so I had to work out when to set my alarm and I got it wrong a couple of times.

I nearly missed the Australian GP last year.As it was the night the clocks changed,I had forget to set my clock and missed an hour of the race.It seems Bernie did not take this into consideration.

As awesome as 20 races is for us specators it will take a massive toll on the drivers and resources of the teams.Especially if the races are in hotter climates such as India, could be tough for the boys.

yeah I did hear about that, I only thought it was a rumour cause my source isn't reliable. In that case the proposed Paris Street Track, assuming its half decent lol. But Paul Ricard is a reasonable track and if not a French Grand Prix then Portugal at Algarve we will go.
As for USA I was tossing up between Mexico and USA and personally I would be happy with either, both circuits produce excellent racing. But Mexico has missed out on a GP since 1992? (i think it was then) so they deserve it and plus Indianopolic is reasonably close to Montreal. But a year by year agreement similiar to Nurburgring and Hockenheim, would be pretty good

It is disappointing to see many of you forgetting about the USA in your comments. Sadly, it seems that mindset of "We have Montreal and that's good enough!" has come back to the F1 crowd once again.

In a time when the economics of F1 have been to hell and back again, it only makes sense to race in and develop the fanbase in the world's biggest economic power, and that means the USA. If the price is right, Bernie will have multiple promoters lining up to host the event- it is up to him and his cronies to make that happen.

I understand that a NASCAR-style calendar would be nearly impossible, but a 20-race scheudle should easily be a reality. Have the break after 10 rounds, put the European events in the middle, and it could all work fine. And yes, a USGP should be included- if you talk about number of fans, the last USGP events still drew more than 100,000 fans, even after the debacle of Indy 2005.
