Update: Official: Schumacher to make F1 return
Michael Schumacher could be about to confirm an astonishing return to F1 in 2010.
The BBC claims details of his comeback for Mercedes alongside Nico Rosberg will shortly be made official, although his official spokesperson Sabine Kehm is not confirming them at the moment.
Rumours about Mercedes signing up Schumacher for 2010 had been played down by many in the press before Ferrari’s Luca di Montezemolo gave a strong indication Schumacher would be joining Mercedes after all.

In my book Schumi is more than capable of challenging the young lions, simply because he’s never been out of shape since his (premature) retirement in ‘06 and because he’s always kept his reflexes sharp in one way or the other:)
All these years you could smell it in the air that somehow everyone (including himself) felt he wasn’t done racing in F1:)
It should be an astonishing season, just imagine those nail-biting moments in the dying stages of qualifying in Bahrain:):) Not to mention the actual race:)

Its almost as if Schu misdirected her on purpose this year.
As fun as this is, I’ve spent the last three hours reverting edits on Wikipedia after falling for it myself … it seems someone – actually, several someonees – insist on adding him every thirty seconds.
Four wheels most certainly safer than two, and eight F1 World Championships most definitely better than seven. I’m a little disappointed it wont be in a Red car again, as I’m sure is Luca Di Montezemolo, but to see the master at work again?…. we cannot be disappointed in that, whatever team he’s driving for (although, almost would be nicer to see him in a more lowly team).
There should no doubt, however, that if he does step into this drive, he’s doing it with full belief that he can be world champion again. The others who thought they may get it easier with him retiring early are in for proper competition!
Schumacher has taken his sabbatical. He never really retired from F1-kept himself involved by being consultant to Ferrari. Now, his hands are itchy, want to sit inside the real thing, this time not a Ferrari but Mercedes GP Petronas F1 car. Now let us see how the old master cope with new rules, car specifications and new challengers. GO GO GO….old master!
You guys think that’s one of the major factors why Petronas jumped on board Mercedes?
everyone was trying to court petronas, i think it was a few factors, the mercedes ownership (stability), the world championship and next year’s potential from the car.
I think it’s great, in my view i dont see anything negative with him coming back in, he’s proven everything he needs to prove, broken almost every record, won 91 races and 7 world championships.
from my view he’s back for the love of formula 1 racing, and to feel that winning feeling again.
even if he doesnt win he’ll still be happy, and at this point in his life he’s loaded, done it all and can do anything he wants, why not do what makes you happy, winning WDC’s or not.
he’s probably the only person in the world who can come along and say ‘i want to drive in f1 next year’ and be able to make it happen with almost no issues at all.
besides the racing, i think he enjoys the whole aspect of the sport, the technical as well, inputting himself into the car development and working all the angles with the team to push the limits of the cars and team.
he’s a true racer, he’ll do anything to win – dubious or not.

I want to see Schumacher win at least 9 races in 2010, so that he can arrive at the magical number of wins 100 and that to in a Mercedes. When will March 2010 come, its taking toooooooo long.
In my opinion it is a mistake for him – he has a lot of reputation to lose and not much to gain… But I guess he has to see for himself he can still compete at top level.
It is probably a bit of a personal insult for him that F1 did so good since his retirement as it was widely expected F1 without Schumacher would get less interesting and would suffer a crisis and drop in viewing figures. We all know that wasn’t the case, quite opposite.
I never liked him, but he’s gonna make the season even more interesting. Although I doubt that he’ll be matching the pace of Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel and the others. I hope Nico won’t be No.2 in the team.

If Michael does come back I will be supporting him, as Kimi is now at the WRC.
“Your powers are weak old man. You should not have come back.” I think we’ve heard this before. I say bring it on. This will be the first time in a while we’ve seen multiple, capable drivers in seemingly capable cars. Hopefully the engineers will be just as capable. Thankfully, we’ll see the Schu without driveraids. He’ll have to use the Force.
I don’t think he has anything to lose really in my opinion. He will still be remembered for 7 world titles and for occaisionaly bending the rules – that’s not going to change no matter what happens.
Personally, I can’t wait to see him return.
Another thing… I wonder if Kimi is at all regretting not signing for McLaren now? Next season is going to a party – and everyone who’s anyone will be in attendance except him it seems.
2010 is going to be the most exciting team yet!

2010 is lining up to be a great season.
People were commenting that F1 would have 4 World Champions on the grid before Raikkonen decided to go rallying now if Schumacher does comes back there will indeed be 4 World Champions on the grid.
I hope he will do a comeback like Kim Clijsters did when she returned to tennis.
News confrence at 11.30 CET confirming a 1 year deal. La Gazzetta had a good article about it today.
He has nothing to prove and can only enjoy himself. I don’t think age will play any factor in this. The condition drivers are in now I can’t see their being any difference between someone at 34/35 and 40. He has looked after himself well and has been in constant training for months.
