  1. Hamilton’s first fastest lap since China 08 and his 4th overall

  2. Massa’s fastest lap was fairly slow – it just seems on some tracks he just can’t get it all hooked up.

Luckily for him a lot of these tracks have gone now, and he moves on to a few of the tracks where he has had some good results – Barcelona, Turkey etc.

    1. He’s got to step it up from now. I’ve defended him vigorously over the last few weeks, but today probably was his worst performance since mid-2008.

    2. Agreed with you and I really hope for a good result in the next few races. On the bright side, this is the best start he had in a season ever. he hardly ever scores points at the start.

So, i hope for the mid season momentum to kick in like how he did it in 2008.

  3. I don’t want to sicken everybody with the comparison but I find it funny that Senna and Hamilton both have a decent number of wins, far more poles than wins, but a tiny number of fastest laps in comparison.

    1. I was a big fan of Senna – and I don’t find your comparison inappropriate at all. Hamilton has many similar characteristics, good and bad.

    2. I describe Senna’s 3rd most evar wins as approaching the good side of decent.

I’ll tell you what though, imagine if Senna had been driving throughout the refuelling era. It was made for him, three sprints, I’m not sure what people could have done.

      1. Drove a Ferrari and called himself Schumacher?

  4. This was a race where luck played a lot role regarding fastest laps. The track was good for only a few laps to do that. Top 50 laps show just that, all laps there are between laps 12 and 18.

In these conditions I wouldn’t have been too surprised if someone like Sutil had got the fastest lap. One race for which conditions can be probably compared a bit (never perfect, short span where all laps were driven) is Canadian GP 1989 where Jonathan Palmer ended up with fastest lap, followed by Senna, Piquet and de Cesaris.

Luck played for a lot in this race.

    1. As it does in most.;)

  6. Lotus and Hekkie can take a bit of pride finally beaten one of the established team in at least something once =) Faster lap then one of the Saubers.

    1. Kovalainen finished ahead of Hülkenberg – that’s more notable achievement.

  7. One thing is that it was a very exciting race, very technical and confusing and hardly many dull moments. The entire race kept you on the edge of your seat.

However, I am disappointed that Ferrari did not do as well as they should have.I hope Massa starts his race winning form in Europe as currently, Alonso is really overshadowing him.

I would have to agree that luck really had a lot to do with this race especially concerning the timing for the change in tires etc.

Another disappointment was Schumacher. However, to be fair, he has not raced in these sorts of conditions with these new cars ever. It might have rained in Australia but this was a different ball game. I would still give him one whole season to catch up. he needs to learn these new cars better.

As for the Red Bulls, well nothing much else to say but better luck next time.
