Claudioff named the top four finishers in the Chinese Grand Prix and wins “The Lotus Story” DVD boxset for the best prediction this weekend.
And there’s now just a single point between the championship leaders after the fourth round. See below for the full standings.
This week’s runner-up prize winner is iBlaze, who was one of seven players to score 21 points. But iBlaze won the tie-breaker by coming closes to predicting Sebastian Vettel’s pole position time correctly.
Carina Gascoine, Laura D, Dominik Kolodziej, hamlesix f1, CyclopsPL and James Leonard also scored 21 points this weekend.
Jenson Button was far from the most popular choice of winner – he was picked by 50 players, with more people choosing Lewis Hamilton (426), Sebastian Vettel (339) or Fernando Alonso (55).
While J-Canada holds onto the championship lead, Arpi_ is now only one point behind. With 750 points remaining to be won this year, there’s still a long way to go in this year’s championship. See the standings for all 2,500 players below.
And if you didn’t win this weekend remember you still have time to win one of five copies of “Art of the Formula 1 Race Car”.
The prizes
This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.
On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:
Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix
The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.
The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.
Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice
The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.
You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.
Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011
The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.
The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.
This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.
NB. 2009 edition cover used for illustration
Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994.
Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.
Race runners-up prize: F1 race winner print
The second place finisher in each race will win a 40x35cm print of the race winner
This prize is supplied by Motorsport in Print.

I scored pretty good on the first race but slipped after that. Still keeping myself up there a bit but dropped down in the stands from 60th something to shared 84th. I need to stop predict before FP1 even started and wait until FP3 completed I guess ;)
A link to the predictions list would be nice. I don’t recall what Pole time I picked nor the exact order. Would just be fun to see what one got right especially on the pole how close you where. I know I was way of because I was predicting a wet quali if I don’t recall wrong.

I thought my points were wrong since I’d calculated them at 19 points, but I went back to check my predictions and for some inexplicable reason there is De Le Rosa in 3rd place instead of Rosberg :(
Puffy
20th April 2010, 12:12
Ah, De La Rosa is situated alphabetically right below Rosberg. For Sepang I couldn’t submit a prediction at all because my phone’s browser didn’t play nice, and this week I managed to get Opera Mobile to work with the predictions but then buggered it up :( If I believed in the fates I would suspect they were against me.

Keith, how do I check my predictions? I looked at the Chinese GP prediction page and it showed the predictions for Bahrain.
Puffy

Yeah, I had to fiddle around a bit and submit a race id (attribute name: mrl_race) of 24 with the show predictions form to get it to display the predictions for Shanghai.

20th April 2010, 19:05
Hi,
What happens when you change the dropdown box at the bottom to another race ?
There is a little bit of Javascript that should kick in and redisplay the predictions for the selected race.
If it’s not doing that, then can you let me know which browser you are using and if there are any Javascript errors reported. In Firefox choose Tool->Error Console (not sure about IE) and see if anything gets logged.
I’m looking at add some new features to the plugin next week and if there is a bug I can fix that at the same time.
Ian.

The problem is that when you load the predictions championship page, it’s not populating the select box with any race options. In fact just above the form it says “No races available in this championship.” So if you click “Show Predictions” it defaults to the Bahrain race. And nope, no javascript errors.
ianhaycox
21st April 2010, 8:32
Thanks for the info.
It seems like you might be on last years championship page – hence the message ‘No races….’
Can you confirm the full URL of the page that you are using to view predictions, maybe there is a stale link ?
If you are on the right page – then that sounds like a bug – and I’ll get it fixed.
Ian.

URL is https://www.racefans.net/community/f1-fanatic-predictions-championship/
I suspect that because it’s offering a form to make predictions, it’s checking whether there are any races to make predictions for and then not populating the select box so that you can view predictions. Maybe just a simple Select Race drop down and a show predictions button if there isn’t a race to predict?
As an aside, this is another area where a login system would be very useful, as you could easily track your own predictions.

Why not have a login system for the site? That way all comments and competitions etc can use the login and there is no risk of typo’s etc in name/email. Would also prevent someone from say; pretending to be J-Canada and predicting an HRT race victory in Spain.

Keith Hi!
Sorry, but I think there was error in calculations.
I took part this champ from 2nd round (Melbourne), but in the current result page I can see this:
Player Rank Bah Mel Sep Sha Total
Andrey Aleshkov 1203 3 0 4 0 7
And in the last round (Shahir) I made true prediction about pole-position at least, but I have 0 points in this column.
And one thing that I have to say – my brother takes part this champ too. His name is Ilya Aleshkov.
And I think that it’s maybe source of this confusion.
Player Rank Bah Mel Sep Sha Total
Ilya Aleshkov 760 0 2 2 7 11
Andrey Aleshkov 1203 3 0 4 0 7
Sorry. Great site! Thank a lot for your work!

No – I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to join in and if they are faced with filling in a form with 20-odd fields that’s going to discourage people from participating.

Patrickl
20th April 2010, 19:45
I put this in the prediction thread voting closed, but I see some people asking for pole time predictions so I thought I better put it here also.
The median pole time (time that was predicted most often) was around 1:34.8. Not far off the actual time. 70% of the predictions where within 1 second of the actual pole time.
A lot of people where really close to the pole time prediction. The five closest ones were:
Player Diff
DaveG 0,001
Barry Turner 0,002
RCole 0,003
mash -0,003
HounslowBusGarage -0,003
The predictions for pole where of course between Vettel and Hamilton:
Pole Perc Number
VET 46,14% 448
HAM 42,22% 410
BUT 3,30% 32
Amazingly Webber got only 18 “votes” for pole.
For the race win we have the following predictions:
P1 Perc Number
HAM 43,77% 425
VET 34,81% 338
ALO 5,66% 55
If it’s going to be a weather influenced race, a lot could happen, but I doubt Hamilton will win a dry race from P6.
Again Webber gets only 23 votes while he has been almost as fast as Vettel all weekend/season and is driving the fastest car of the field. The guy has some serious image issues
I gave the predictions F1 style scores again and added all those up. For instance a prediction with HAM to finish on P1 and ALO on P2 would give HAM 25 points and ALO 18 points.
The resulting top 10 scores from 971 predictions are:
Driver Score
HAM 17801
VET 16257
BUT 9844
ALO 8799
ROS 8399
WEB 5818
MAS 4677
SCH 3453
KUB 1710
SUT 448
That actually looks pretty accurate as a prediction for the grid. Just swap Hamilton and Webber and your pretty close.
