Scunnyman won the Spanish round of the Predictions Championship

Round five of the F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship was won by Scunnyman, who picked up 31 points with the best prediction of the weekend.

As well as winning a Lotus DVD boxset Scunnyman moves up to third in the championship behind new leader Arpi_ and former leader J-Canada.

The runner-up was TimmyA who wins a painting of race winner Mark Webber from Motorsport in Print.

TimmyA tied on points with AlexDe but won the tie-breaker by getting closest to predicting Webber’s pole position time.

Webber’s emergence as a winner surprised many players last week: less than 5% of players named him as the pole sitter while more than 80% preferred his team mate. Webber was similarly unfancied for the win, with more than half of players picking Vettel.

See below for the standings in full and find more statistics on the Predictions Championship here:

The prizes

This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.

On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix

The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.

Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice

The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.

You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011

The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.

The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.

This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.

Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994.

Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.

Race runners-up prize: F1 race winner print

The second place finisher in each race will win a 40x35cm print of the race winner

This prize is supplied by Motorsport in Print.

  1. I had VET HAM WEB ALO SCH so going well before lewis and vettels front wheels stopped working albeit with the red bulls the wrong way round

Just as me, Sam. For once it looked like I’d challenge for a win in the race but by the blink of an eye I was stripped of 15 points.

Still, I moved up three places in the standings – 11th is great given that I never scored much in a single round!

      1. I’ve noticed though, apart from the top two or three guys it’s really close, I’m 55th and only 10 points behind ^_^

        Are you scared now?

        how about now?

Yeah I’ve noticed that too. The competition is so close that if I had more 5 points, I’d be 5th. If I had 5 points less I’d be 33th.

But erm, no, I’m not. :P

  2. Yet another horrible round, and I’m still 10th!

  3. 43. Rising up!

So: Monaco. Is aero grip (Red Bull) as important as it has been or might mechanical grip (not sure who that would favour) be the clue to grid position and hence, probably, the race result.

    1. if rosberg can put in a decent quali run here and have a race like china, id favor his chances. maybe hamilton new helmet will bring him new luck (of the good variety for his sake). and alonso may be able to mix up the front row again. barring these guys, red bull should still do well. also, look for sutil to go for redemption know that he doesnt have to worry about kimi in his mirrors.

      1. lol…absolutely right there…sutil’s been banged by ferrari so many times in his small career in FI that I can’t see him winning any race(One of the Ferraris will always knock him out!!)

  4. If there is a prize for consistency, I stake a claim for it.

3 out of 5 races, I have scored exactly 5 points and with the same break-up. (2 points for correctly getting 1 driver’s position, 3 for getting 3 out of the top 5 right)

  5. 48 points from the lead … sigh. Damn you Webber for pole position! And damn you Hamilton’s tyre rim for ruining my 2nd place prediction …

Only 5 points this round, down to 447 (or something). Still, I’m not terribly many points from the lead.
I suspect Monaco will be another tough one to predict as forecasts indicate a wet weekend.

  7. I was one of the very view to pick him for pole. He is hella quick over a lap. And like most others, I expected him to fold in the race and finish behind any or all of HAM, ALO, BUT, MSC in any event. Is his Trulli-like reputation as a man who either chokes or gives way in a tough fight undeserved? Or is it just terrible luck. Whatever the reason, though he is a swell guy and blazingly quick, I won’t be picking him for a win next week, no matter what his practice times say.

  8. 134th – can’t remember if that’s an improvement or not!

I like the way the predictions championship is mirroring the F1 DWC. We’re having different winners, and despite a high theoretical maximum, the points tallies are quite close. I’m only 40 off the lead, for example, and 1 more point would have put me in 118th instead.

Anyway, I think I’m going to keep sticking with my general prediction pattern; “stopped clocks” and all that!

  9. keith,

where can i see the picks i made for each round? when i go to the predictions page it only lets me pick for the next grandprix. can we view our previous picks at all?

  10. 5 points again, need a big score to catch up

  11. I am a bit surprised Keith, I score 0 points for this round, though I had 4 drivers in the top 5 (albeit not at their true finishing places). I think I had Ham,Vet,Alo,But,Msc. Or didn’t my prediction register correctly ?

  12. here as well.
however, now Im 505, so steadily climbing

  13. Another bad one. Wrong order on the Bulls for me and wrong bull on pole. Ugh. But still manage to gain some ground somehow, up to 69th from 84th.

  14. scored 11 points this week and up to 105th(im flying, i know :)), so only ah….93 spots to go until i get a prize.

  15. Hi Keith

Would it be possible to include the points breakdown in this page – ie what you score points for. I know I should know by now but I can’t remember! Thanks

I’m 256th… mid field mediocrity. I just wish I had of scored big points at Bahrain when I had the chance

Hi Keith, I mistyped my name as ‘hamlesix f1’ for the Shanghai round, can you merge it into the score for hamletsix f1 please! I beg you! It was my best round by far!

  18. Dam, just noticed I’ve used differant names, my own fault really inaint gonna win:(

    205…. Not bad…..

Good Luck in Monaco everyone! (well … not everyone… I need at least 1,100 of you to not score points so that I can move up again :) )

    Oh the excitement!
I’ve shot up from 2-millionth to equal 853rd on the standings and I have no idea or recollection why.
It would be nice to be able to reason it carefully and say “Oh yes, it’s because I redicted X to Y position”, but I’m not sure I can remember. Pathetic, eh?
Anyway, 853 is an improvement, and I’m grateful to the drivers for falling in with my view of things.

  21. My highest ever score this weekend…5! Reaching the giddy heights of 686th leaves me feeling slightly light-headed.

  22. I qualified well in Bahrain, but alas now am slipping back through the pack. Just call me the Jarno Trulli of F1 tipping *sigh*

  23. Arpi and J-canada really got a head start from Bahrain, hanalou also got it but has disappeared Oo…

  24. I think i stalled in 256th place. Got the wrong Bull on pole (althoug i am happy for Mark, a little unfortunate) and Lewis dropping out was a setback as well. It did bring Button where he should have been.

    Hi Keith,

I made my selection with 5 minutes to go on your countdown timer.. it obviously didn’t accept my predictions?

I did mentioned it straight away when it happend, the message came up that it was saved but was too late.

Can you explain to me why this would of happend?

    Cheers.

  26. Gwenouille and Chris Powell I’ll have a look into your problems today.

hamletsix I’m sorry but if you don’t enter your username correctly I can’t change it.

      12th May 2010, 8:20

      thank you keith

    2. Don’t spend much time on that though, it’s just a game. I just thought maybe there’s some general problem here, not just my entry…

  27. I entered the top 50 but i notice the top 2 are still there because they scored 48 in the first round. I think i had al the right people in the top 5 now place them in the right order )

Monaco will be very hard as downforce is very important, Lets watch pratice a carefully )

  28. I tried to make my predictions from my mobile but it didn’t work… :( Not that my predictions would have been correct however!

  29. I don’t see your name on the leaderboard Keith, are you not playing this year?

  30. This contest proves with no further doubt that I am, in fact, not a prophet. 447th after typing in all GPs…

  31. Typical! I managed to correctly name all drivers in the top five, but not one was in the correct order!!

Next round I’ll have to remedy that.

  32. Chris Powell
    12th May 2010, 10:16

With all due respect, speak for yourself Gwenouille.

I was 8th and now 21st :) I would of still lost points this round but not that many!

    thanks again.

  33. I’m amazed I’m 8th, but pleased all the same!

  34. mad i forgot to make my predictions after a 3week break. blame the alcohol!

  35. Darn it, until Hamilton retired I was set for my best result of the season with the correct top five and two those in the correct position.

  36. Gwenouille – I’m afraid no prediction was received from you. When you make a prediction it should display a message confirming when it has been received.

Chris Powell – According to the record your prediction was entered nine minutes after the deadline. I’m surprised you said the countdown timer was still running. Can you confirm what time of day it was when you were when you made the prediction?

    1. Chris Powell
      12th May 2010, 16:28

      hi Keith,

well when I submitted my predictions I did post a reply to the thread saying what had happend. Can you see what time that was on the site?.. but then I guess that it will just tell you the same thing that it was after the deadline :(

I do remember that 3rd practise was just starting while I was posting about the error.. and there wasn’t even a car on track yet.

      So it was about 9.50am??

    2. Mmmhh, very strange… I was sure it went alright. Nevermind ! Thanks for checking anyway !
