The prizes

This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.

On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix

The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.

Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice

The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.

You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011

The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.

The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.

This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.

Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

Duke Video are supplying the prize for the player who gets the highest score in each round.

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994.

Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.

Race runners-up prize: F1 race winner print

The second place finisher in each race will win a 40x35cm print of the race winner

This prize is supplied by Motorsport in Print.

  1. I cannot make the predictions.

There is no box for choosing pole and 5 top drivers…

    am I missing something?

    1. It’s working fine for me – the predictions opened two days ago and a lot have been posted already. Tried a hard refresh?

    2. I keep getting the Barcelona results with Internet Explorer 8.

I used FireFox and then I did get the Monaco prediction entry fields.

      1. Yes, I use Safari on a Mac and no way to make the prediction, every time I open it appears Barcelona. I can change it to Monte Carlo but doesn’t appear the boxes to make the predictions.

When I use firefox, everything is ok.

        1. When I reopen the page in Firefox I get the “enter prediction” fields again though.

It’s like the cache won’t flush in IE and it won’t stick in Firefox. Odd.

At least i was able to enter my prediction in Firefox and I can see that it’s actually there with Internet Explorer :D

Download Opera if you have problems guys.

            http://www.opera.com/

Its fast and stable with these plug ins.

        2. I’m on a safari mac combination but it’s all fine here…

          1. Today (as yesterday) everything was fine for me also on a Safari/Firefox mac combination.

    3. ALSO I CANNOT MAKE PREDICTION !

    4. Actually, site has gone very strange for me completely using Firefox, looks more teletext than html – odd coz no issues at any other sites yet.

Anyway, works fine with Safari and made entry, indeed viewing, that way. Haven’t tried Chrome yet, but suspect my creaking behemoth needs a rebuild.

    5. Same for me Keith… Whats up?

  2. Still sticking with Vettel for pole. But this time, it is a lot more riskier than in the previous 5 races.

    1. Same thought here. At this point its hard not to predict vettel for pole…

Im super confident in my predictions, it seems quite clear.

  4. i can’t see the posting box for prediction as well..are there any problems keith?

  5. I’ve let my heart rule. I don’t think RBR will dominate and although their quali is so outstanding I predict some q1 surprises.

My record on predictions is so bad that I am prepared to offer a deal here.
Let me know who you don’t want to win and I will select them. That way they are bound to fail.

    1. Sir, you maybe suffering from election overload. Don’t think tactical voting works the same for this contest. If we all vote for Alonso and Hamilton to win, just can’t see Chandhok coming in second – mind you, HRT could do with the points…

      1. I think Chandok coming seconds would be more than most cars winning!

I’v gone for Vettel to get pole but either take too much out of his tyres as the Red Bull has the worst tyre wear rate of the top for teams, either that or I think his brakes will give up on him again. Hamilton for the race win as he looked fast last year with a terrible car.

  8. Easy one.
Schumi will set a lap time at the end of Q3 and then hit the barrier at some place where there are no cranes. He probably has been looking at a map of the circuit to see which place is ideal. Et voila: pole position!

Since overtaking is virtually impossible he will stay at the front the entire race.

      13th May 2010, 15:36

It would seem that you’re joking, but I see you’ve actually picked Schumacher for pole and the win! Surely lightning can’t strike twice…… can it?!

  9. Ned Flanders
    13th May 2010, 15:35

Believe it or not, I’ve tipped Vettel for pole, but I have neither Red Bull in the top 5.

Call me crazy, but God Himself just came down from heaven to tell me that Sebastian Vettel would crash, Mark Webber would have a mechanichal faliure, and Lewis Hamilton would win. You heard it here first!

    1. God must be speaking across the Atlantic because I heard him as well. =)

    2. Good pick, but backing Alonso for pole and win. Totally agree about Seb splashing but through adversity, MW will drag in in fifth – another poor result for the Bully Boys may start to worry them at their Austrian headquarters, Milton Keynes. Mercy weekend for me, with Rosberg out-qualifying his rookie teamy again and getting a fine 2nd, but Mickey The Shoe trailing a new wheel nut involving 100cm spikes (quoth Ross “Michael though it might help cut through the air”). 3rd for Schumi then. Slipping a little Hammy in in 4th, but in truth, think he would rather perish on Michael’s chariot than finish behind him.

Oh, and Rubens may have traffic issues this weekend.

    3. Wow, truly spoken like Ned Flanders…

Actually I made the same prediction.

  10. After Ferrari has fixed the engine, suddenly faster all the other team including Red Bull. what a joke.

    Shame on you FIA

    1. Its a whole new ball game in Monaco. An advantage in Spain will be of little value there. Perhaps it is a better set up car and not an ‘engine’ advantage. Speaking of which, no engine is truly equal to another in formula one, past or present. Look at the power the Mercedes unit had displayed last year.

    2. Ferrari was using that engine in Spain already. Lot of good it did them there …

Besides, Monaco isn’t really a power circuit now is it?

      1. Yep – engine ain’t worth diddly for Monaco, tis a chassis circuit.

  11. Looking at the sector times Vettel set a blistering S2 time, with a poor S3 and an ok S1. I look to him to put a lap together and get pole.

But during the race he will have another issue and be off P1.

  12. Seems to be very close for redbull ferrari mclaren mercedes and renault, and my bet this time is Kubica in pole.
Watch out closely Rosberg because he is always fast on this track.
If he gets another time behind Schumacher will mean that the 7 time world champion has got on full charge considering the fact that this time Mercedes have brought the old shortened wheelbase to this track which is said to be better fitted to Nico’s driving style.

A very curious thing that I was reading today on “la gazzetta dello sport” was that Ferrari McLaren and Mercedes were trying to spy the redbull team and share data to find out where the speed is coming out from the latest Newey’s creation… where do they get this news??

    1. To ‘spy’ is misleading. More like, closely observing and collectively analysing…

Not working in Google Chrome, prediction boxes do not appear.

    Works fine on Internet Explorer.

  14. Vettel and Alonso for pole and win seems VERY popular. Let’s see how many of us are wrong.. LOL.. Put Vettel on pole and win going with heart more then anything. Put Alo second but honestly think Alo might win :( but want Vettel to win.. LOL… More a stubborn prediction made by heart this time then anything else.

  15. I’m mad – Kubica for pole and win, ha!

  16. I think (hope!) Alonso will be too quck for everyone else this weekend.

How do I see the predictions, I already posted my predictions and I want to see the rest, is there anything that I can do?

Keith, you might want to know that for me at least, random names and e-mail addresses are appearing in the prediction boxes. Don’t think it’s doing any harm, but I’m guessing it shouldn’t be doing it.

  19. Apologies to those of you who are experiencing problems submitting predictions.

I’ve changed some of the caching settings on the site which I hope will fix the problem. Do leave a comment or send an email if you have any problems.

    1. Hey Keith i can’t see where to put my predictions still!!!

      1. Do you not get the Monte-Carlo option in the drop-down menu?

        1. yup i did get it but can’t find space fr prediction!!!…i hope i have till Saturday to make the prediction.

          1. is there any other way i can enter????

          2. You can email – see details in the rules above.

Nope, I’m still only getting the Barcelona predictions

          1. Hey Keith…its working now!!!!..ll make my predictions soon.

Thanks, you do a wonderful job providing the statistics and stuff!!!

Oooooooops I picked Massa for Pole and win not Alonso :P

  21. No boxes for me to enter on Google Chrome, like many others. I selected Monte Carlo from the drop-down menu but it just lists everyone else’s picks. If it doesn’t appear by FP3 I will email my predictions.

    Thanks.

    1. No problem. Sorry it hasn’t worked for you, I’ve tried it on Chrome on a couple of machines and can’t replicate the problem. And there are lots of predictions going into the database so it is working for some people. One of those annoying intermittent problems I guess, will keep working on it.

      1. Chrome works absolutely fine…

  22. Made my choice but now just seen the weather forecast — I don’t suppose there’s any way to change your prediction? (so long as it’s before Saturday)

  23. Top man, Keith. Appreciate all the work you put in.

P.S. Tried a different machine but same result.

  24. Not working for me. Says I need the same Email address yet I’ve been using the same one.

    Pole Time: 01:14:786
    Pole Sitter: Alonso
    Winner: Alonso
    Second: Webber
    Third: Kubica
    Fourth: Button
    Fifth: Rosberg

    1. If you can’t get it working please email your prediction in (see the rules).

  25. If it rains the outcome will be different maybe we see Hamiliton in front, otherwise the train i predicted )

  26. Keith, I might be going blind but I can’t see your prediction anywhere….

  27. RedSwill always sand-bags in practice. Vettel for pole by a good margin. Unfortunately for him, he and his immediate pursuers will generate more excellent “when backmarkers attack” video for Keith as they steam into the back of the peleton at lap 8 or 9. And someone in the second tier will come through. Kubica has the coolest head and will blithely pick up the pieces. Ya’ll heard it here first.

  28. Pole. ALO
    Time. 1:14.717
    P1. ALO
    P2. VET
    P3. ROS
    P4. HAM
    P5. KUB

  29. Dude, weak. Damn machine was busted. Alonso on pole and win, then Hamilton, Webber, Kubica then Schumacher. Pole time will be 1.15.986

I know you don’t accept times past the deadline.

What I don’t understand is why the deadline is so early? My life is not conducive to getting it done the evening before. Why not have the deadline when qualy starts like a lot of other prediction things?

  31. Bugger!

Alonso certainly won’t be getting pole or winning now.

  32. Wow haha!
Such an old topic but I find it rather hilarious actually that going through the comments not a single person suggested that Webber could get on front row, and only 2 people suggested he could get on podium – no-one thought he could win.
    Aussie is the go ;)
