The track

It’s not well-loved by the fans and the drivers haven’t got much positive to say about it either.

The long Valencia street track comprises 25 corners, with a reasonably interesting sequence of bends towards the end of the lap. But most of the turns are very tight and slow.

The only thing you can say in its defence is it’s only held two races yet and perhaps it will improve with age. The race organisers have at least made a couple of changes to make it better to look at.

The weather

Ordinarily held in August, the Valencia race is being held two months earlier than usual but similar weather conditions are expected: three days of hot, dry running.

2009 European Grand Prix highlights

Last year McLaren locked out the front row of the grid with their improving MP4-24.

But from an early stage the chasing Rubens Barrichello looked set to jump Lewis Hamilton for the lead in the pit stops – and sure enough he did.

Barrichello’s first win in almost five years was warmly received, the Brawn driver roundly applauded as he pulled into the pits. Meanwhile Luca Badoer, standing in for the injured Felipe Massa, endured the first of two woeful appearances for Ferrari.

    1. I hate to put a downer on the weekend before it even begins, but I’ve got a feeling I’ll be turning over at 3 to watch the football, the sooner this track is gone the better.

      1. seeing as the race is 100% gaurenteed to have finished by then, i wouldnt be too worried

    2. uh, keith, typo, ferrary

      1. Fixed, thanks.

    3. Heikki Kovalainen just tweeted saying he is in Geneva after not getting a take off slot so has to drive 1200km to Valencia!

Fairuz Fauzy might get a go tomorrow in practice?

    4. The McLaren front row lockout is not out of the question, but i expect Ferrari do do rather better than last year and i think it is very unlikely of either Rubens or Mercedes GP repeating their win of last year.

Look at the empty seats behind the cars in Keith’s editorial shot. And that was with two(?) Spanish drivers in the race.
Wonder if it will be better this year?

    6. I saw on the formula1.com that they expect fog during the Friday & Saturday session?

    7. I wouldn’t be suprised if this track produces a spectical of a race this weekend and Keith can make this the comment of the day after it does. :)

      1. Oh, how much i am looking forward to seeing your comment reach COTD after the race!

    8. i bet no driver can draw this circuit so many similar corners i like it but maybe not for racing we hav to wait till sunday
