The Red Bull drivers were emphatically quickest in first practice at the Hungaroring.
Sebastian Vettel led Mark Webber as the pair ended the session a second quicker than their rivals.
Renault’s Robert Kubica was the best of the rest.
After the session began Felipe Massa was the first driver to set a time, slowly lapping the circuit where his season came to an abrupt end last year.
Ferrari seemed not to show their hand during the hour-and-a-half’s running, Fernando Alonso ending the session seventh fastest as he tried a new blown rear wing on the F10.
Another team focussing on new aerodynamic developments were Williams, who ran an array of wind speed sensors on Nico Hulkenberg’s FW32.
Force India ran their new exhaust-blown diffuser on Adrian Sutil’s car, while reserve driver Paul di Resta drove the car in its previous configuration for a back-to-back comparison.
McLaren, too, did not appear to be chasing fastest times. Jenson Button was fourth fastest while Lewis Hamilton, unhappy with the balance of the car and losing time with a technical glitch, was 18th.
The dusty track prompted a few spins and moments, the most significant being a half-spin for Vitaly Petrov at the exit of the final corner which left him broadside across the track on the grid hatchings. He was able to get back to the pits.

I don’t think Ferrari have showed there pace but it looks like RBR should walk this one.
Good to see Renault up there, kind of expected after Monaco but a lots happened since then. Kubica still liking the twists and turns in that car.

until now everything is going as expected williams and renault are up there straight line speed isnt important and we know that they have good drivers and downforce red bull is on their ultimate perfect track i think theres no better track for red bull the f1 broadcasting was really focused on showing us the flexibility of red bulls front wing which isnt a new topic since melbourne last year red bulls wing has been in focus and his design has been carbon printed but for some reason the rivals wing doesnt flex we saw a lot of movemet on the bumps the wing almost touching the ground which may be related to suspension settings or just red bull wing consistency and integrity obviously toro rosso front wing also showed great flex onboard but not much on the time sheets still cant see ferraris flexibility it doesnt move much on bumps a bit onboard but definatly moves sideways on kerbs just to remind on 06 fia made ferrari and renault change their wings because of their flexibility and on 08 correct me if im wrong red bull was force to put an pillar between their bridge and nose to avoid exceding the limits same wing design carbon printed by mclaren that had to put an support to their bridge aswell

Hamilton is 3 whole seconds off the Red Bull’s. Technichal glitch or no technichal glitch, that is a huge gap

Yeah, they have got a pretty good technical glitch for this race :)

I think there was a problem found with Hamilton’s front suspension. Something about some reservoirs.

This will not be a walk in the park for Red Bull. Remember, Alonso was fastest in on friday in Monaco before he crashed.
I am pretty sure there will be a fight for pole position between Ferrari and Redbull. There are not many high speed corners so Red Bull’s advantage will not come into play.

It’s not just about the RB6’s high-speed corner strength, though. Their engine performance disadvantage will matter less here.
Still I expect Ferrari to be right up with them once we see the real times.

Why I mentioned about high speed corner because this is where Red Bull is unbeatable. No car can match their speed in such corners but this track is a bit special in that regard. This could again prove be a fantastic quali session tomorrow.

I don’t think all the cars were going all-out to make a best time. Either testing developments or race pace surely.
Yeah I thoguht Red Bull would be dominant here still however. There are a couple of medium to high speed corners where your car needs to hang on for dear life (Turn 4 and 12 or something?) so the track isn’t all tight. Where it IS tight though is where Renault will gain a few tenths however.

Trulli doing a burnout? Or is it just an engine problem.

on the red button (in the uk) there was an excellent analysis on the flexing front wings of the bulls, ferraris and maccas. the RB wing ends were flexing to the point where they virtually touching the circuit, ferrari were higher, macca higher again.
expect a lot more to be made of this over the course of the weekend.

It’s very difficult to read into FP1 times, but yes Red Bull look very fast indeed. I think Jenson’s time is a good one to look at, also Kubica’s.
Yes Red Bull look quick, but we all know far too well that this means that they won’t neccessarily walk it. Still a lot to come from this weekend me tinks.

Yamamoto is well over a second slower than Senna. Blimey he must be minted.

I wasn’t expecting Massa to be that Low in the order, I think that they are running with heavy fuel on board. Good to see Kubica on top hope that is their real pace. Mclaren are going more back although they are leading both the championship I think they still need to have a strong race.
