“F1 2010”: are you going to buy it? (Poll)

The first official F1 video game for major formats in four years goes on sale in one month’s time.

And unlike many recent F1 games Codemasters’ “F1 2010” will be a multi-format titles, with versions available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Will you be buying it? What are your expectations of the long-awaited game? See below for preview images and videos of “F1 2010”.

I played an early version of the game back in March, before the designers had had chance to get all the latest graphics in.

The final version will include all the teams, drivers and circuits from the 2010 F1 season, including the new Korean International Circuit which F1 will race on for the first time in October.

The game also promises a highly detailed circuit grip simulation system which takes into account changes in rubber build-up on the surface, rain fall and more.

Codemasters also have ambitious plans to involve the player in the F1 world beyond driving the car – team mate rivalries, career decisions and even press conferences.

However they have admitted they’ve had to leave some details out, including a simulation of the safety car.

F1 Fanatic will have a full review of “F1 2010” on all three formats next month. If there’s anything you particularly want to know about the game, please say in the comments.

  1. Is it going to be available for mac user as well?

    1. If your a Mac user, your best chance for games is Valve’s Steam service.

      http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/ov_mac.php

    2. In order to run it on a Mac you would have to partition your hard drive using Bootcamp and install Windows as a 2nd operating system. That’s what I did on my iMac so I could play rfactor. It was a pain in the ass, but it was worth it! And yes I will be downloading the new F1 2010 game…it looks amazing! I’ve been waiting all year for this game to come out…

  2. I will definetely buy it. But for everyone F1 Challenge fanatic, as I am, codemasters need to do a hell of a job to overcome this racing simulation legend.
To everyone, I found this mod for F1C, it includes all seasons from 71 to 08 . here’s the link http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=13af361dce82c2db75a4fc82078ae6c86a921d83a26c0780ce018c8114394287

    1. that looks and feels simulation but it isnt it it gives you great steering options but it hasnt the track physics or other thouswands of variables that this game has anyway if i was rich i would buy this game but im keeping with the F1C

      1. and for this 2010 version no real life steering wheels

      2. If thats simulation than im Ayrton Senna… No way near simulation…

And not to mantion that a flat tire is moving right to the oposit side as it should… physics they call it… IOI

        1. At game conventions the games are put on their absolute easiest setting so people can enjoy them and get an idea of what the demo is about in as short a time as possible without getting frustrated. Don’t worry, you can make the game extremely hard core, but why would they force that upon random people at a general game show where the average, non simulator fan would just get frustrated and think the game is crap? Its bad business to advertise at the simulation minority and not the majority.

          1. Treu in a sense… that is that the whole game, even with all assists off, is still an arcade with a test of “simulation”.

Thats exactly why… because its ment to sale in bulk so its got to be an arceade

          2. Thats true too, it’ll stay arcadey at heart but its going to be fun, which is enough reason to buy for me. I can make it as sim as I want and can still play with my friends who aren’t into that

    2. I think that the team should be able to radio you and tell you Your teammate is quicker!

  3. Spending already so much time on my PC per day, I don’t see myself investing more time into games, and on top, I am not a game player. But, but, I must reckon that these games are getting more and more realistic as software evolve.
I am also Administrator of an F1 Forum in French, but where I am thinking of opening an English topic. This is not a commercial Forum, and no money comes out of it, except the usual Google publicities. All mostly welcome : http://nomeg1.creer-forums.fr/forum.htm

  4. Not going to buy it, even if it does look good. First off all, i am a perfectionist and would be starting a new game over and over again, to get the best possible start, but then as i would spend too much time doing that, probably won’t even finish a single driver career.

And i am not that much into car racing on the computer (without the seat, car movements and steering wheel it just is not the real feel).

But hat off to Codemasters, they seem to have developed a realy nice game.

    1. I belive thats not games problem if you cant finish one single race…

      1. true, surely the idea of game playing is that you might not always get a perfect start, i played career mode on f12008c.e done over 40 laps on bahrain and crashed, did i start again – hell no, btw, i have a playseat, logitech wheel, ps3 and 42″ plasma, its not a £50,000 simulator, but its great, just try to put your tv at eye level, cheer up everybody, so glum :(

        1. Sounds good! Just i would have to install it in my basement, as the family would not appreciate having it in the living room :-)

      2. I don’t mean i am not capable of finishing, just that I tend to keep trying until i get the perfect lap and win each race.

Therefore it might take me ages to actually progress and i just lose interest after a while.

  5. I’m undecided. I’d really like to, but there’s no way it would run on my current computer. I’m in need of an upgrade and I’m looking into getting a new laptop, but the earliest I’d be able to get one is in November. Late November. And I can’t justify buying a new computer simply for the sake of buying F1 2010. If opportunity knocks, then I’ll answer, but until then … well, I’ll just have to wait.

    1. I’m kind of in your boat as well. I’m a mac user, so I’d basically be looking at getting a PS3 most likely (which would be nice just as a blueray player I suppose). Then I’d crave some kind of steering wheel with paddle shifters which would be a minimum of a couple hundred dollars more. Overall I’m guessing the whole thing would be upwards of $500, and then what little free time I do have would rapidly disappear I’m guessing. We’ll see.

  6. I think I’m going to buy a PS3 just so that I can play this game!

    1. I wouldn’t do that for F1 2010 just yet. But GT5, that’s a completely different story.

      1. I bought a PS3 at christmas last year in the vain hope that GT5 would be out by now. Fortunetaly this will help make up for the delay!

    2. Buy a 360 then. Better graphics and a better joystick

      1. Joystick? get a wheel and a PS3!

the xbox has a rubbish steering wheel. the force feedback is nothing compared to Logitech range of wheels. i know logitech make one for xbox but is has no feedback.

for this reason alone i’m going to get it on PS3. and you wont have to pay to play on line as you do with xbox and then there’s GT5 soon.

joypads totally suck for this kind of game.

    3. buy a ps3, better controller, plays blu-ray, less plasticy feel, has wi-fi built in and has free onine gaming. :D

      1. @BliNnk – Better graphics? On an Xbox 360?? Define better graphics. Do you mean resolution? Because a PS3 is capable of running at 1920×1080 and the games for both platforms are the same as far as animation and graphics anyway I am pretty sure. feel free to correct me, but I am a little puzzled as to how a console that was released a year before the PS3 could have better graphics…

        1. A PS3 has better ultimate animation (and a real processor). Yeah, I possess a X 360 because most TV have a relatively low res so you actually don’t see the difference.

A PS3 with a low quality TV and HI FI is like running a F1 in a rocky mountain : mostly useless.

          1. But the same can be said for the Xbox 360 so I don’t see your point.

          2. True :)

            The XBOX is cheaper

          3. But PS3 offers free online play so… :D

          4. And both consoles are locked to 30 frames per second.

        2. The 360 has a more advanced GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) there is no question about that. Although the PS3 is indeed a year ‘newer’, the Nvidia GPU sony decided to use is older technology and less capable than the ATI chip in the xbox.

To highlight this fact, nvidia – after stating that ATI’s unified pipeline approach was not the best way to go – immediately switched their approach to a unified system and they have been that way ever since… :)

David Kirk (Chief Scientist – Nvidia) interview 2005:

“We will do a unified architecture in hardware when it makes sense. When it’s possible to make the hardware work faster unified, then of course we will. It will be easier to build in the future, but for the meantime, there’s plenty of mileage left in this architecture.”

          Nvidia Geforce 8 Series – released 2006

          http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2005/07/11/nvidia_rsx_interview/4

          1. The PS3’s graphics are marginally better, at least according to the UK Advertising Standards Agency – there was a case brought against Microsoft for false advertising for using the PS3 graphics to advertise the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasty XIII – they used identical setups and determined that the PS3 has slightly better graphics and thus ruled against Microsoft.

But seriously, why do any of you care, the gameplay is way and above the most important factor in a game like this, and it will be roughly equal on each system.

          2. The PS3 is generally better but when it comes to multi-platform games the Xbox ones seem to always look better.

I just hope we PS3 owners don’t get short changed with a game that claims to run at 720p when it’s really 640 or something stupid.

  7. I’ll be buying this for the PC. Hopefully Codemasters have thought of us PC users when it comes to controls and better graphics. I’d hate to have a console nerfed conversion.

  8. It’s the first official F1 game in years…on a format I actually have…of course I’m buying it!

Sure it may well not live up to our expectations, but the last F1 game I had F12001 on PC, was hopeless, but I still played it for hours and hours and hours.

    Roll on 24 September!

    1. Those F1 games were useless! Although dated now the Geoff Crammond ones were amazing in the Amiga/PC days.

And a release on Steam would be lovely. Any other people here on Steam?

      1. I still play hours of Grand Prix 4 every week! I am yet to find a game that even rivals the realism and physics of GP4.

        1. what about rfactor?

          1. I have not played rFactor but from the videos I have seen on YouTube it looks inferior to the aforementioned. GP4 is a proper sim, and it was released way back in ’02! rFactor seems OK, but I’d rather Grand Prix 4 any day.

        2. LOL… so you havent yet tried RFactor or Race ON, itd. and you know anyway what is best SIM racing game…

Unbelivable… and even better, you can see that by only loking at a video… congratulations

          1. I am sorry, I should have concluded my comment with IMO

        3. i second that, GP4 rulez
          I still play it :D:D

          1. Same here!
Do you guys use mods or the original one?
When i tried to mod it screwed it all up so i’m still using the original.
            It’s still the best f1 game i’ve ever played(IMO)!

        4. You should give rFactor a try : on Youtube, many videos shows the player with driving aids. So in the end they drive like crap. But with no aids at all, this game is a one of the best simulation I’ve ever played : the only “cons” is that you have to find a good mod and a good trackpack.
FSOne 2009 is a good mod to try ;).

          1. Maybe an RFT09 will do even better at getting closer to the reality (and RFT track pack is also a good option)

          2. Ohh… and let me reminde you that Red Bull, as far as i know, is using RFactor Pro for their simulator.

          3. You should give iRacing a try, now that’s an hardcore sim..

          4. rfactor is by far the best yet. The only problem is the multiplayer is so damn difficult to get going. Track packs and car setups are so hard to match to start racing online. But if your happy racing AIs then its the best.

If F1 2010 is as “editable” and serious as rfactor then its well worth getting. I just hope they keep the multiplayer interface as easy as 2006 but with more setup options.

          5. IRacing is in my opinion just a rearagned RACE angine (or GTR; its all prety much the same).
And yes, its also one of the best sim racing games along with the formentioned.
            —————————————-

I have been racing in Rfactor online league for a long time now and havent got any problems connecting, sharing setup, or any at all problems… So if you want a multiplayer sensation in RFactor its best to join an online league.
On the other hand racing just on one of the public servers can be sometimes tricky because of the immense possibilitis of tracks and mods which you need to have in order to join a server.

God bless RFactor 2 when it comes out this year!!!!

          6. the problem with the FSONE2009 mod for rfactor is it takes up about 5-6GB of space whereas F1RFT takes up around 2-3GB…

  9. This game looks immense; might justify me buying a new Playstation ;)

    1. All potential buyers of the PS3 version; my PSN is d_smed2311. Add your PSN/Xbox IDs here: https://www.racefans.net/forum/topic.php?id=242

  10. most definetely! the only questions are, do i buy it for 360 or pc. can’t wait for it to come out (in a month today, i believe).

    1. I have that issue, its pc with the wheel and pedals but a pretty solitary experience or 360 and have the whole social aspect of trying to beat down friends best laps. Which if done well is very addictive.

The old climax moto gp games implimented that well, everyday I would get home from work and find my friend had shaved another 10th off my time so I would need to go out and beat it again to make myself the leader on my friends board.

possible idea gamertag / psnid’s ready for multiplayer?

    2. get it for console as the game does need a super computer to run it on a pc…

      1. that i do have! but it will be a 360 buy

  11. Well let me put it this way. I went to asda at 9:30pm last night just to get myself a PS3 ;)

    1. I have had 3 ps3’s and always end up selling them, each time I could never justify having that expensive bit of kit collecting dust. now gt5 is coming out… hmmm… must resist temptation not to make that mistake again lol I have an xbox, i have forza be happy :oD

      1. Thing is I already have a PC but it’s getting a bit dated now. If I were to upgrade then it would have to be top spec and something that would last me for years to come. Getting a PS3 is much cheaper than upgrading the PC and also my G25 will work with the PS3 as well. Seems like a no brainer to me really :)

And the reason I didn’t get an XBox360 is because of the extra hidden fees (wireless adapter sold seperately, internet subscription required etc) and the fact that all my mates have PS3s as well which makes sense when going on the multiplayer.

        1. I got a PS3 last year and I love it.
It always works, plays everything, has a good size hard drive, links in with my home network, sounds great through a Hi-Fi and looks amazing on a Hi-Def TV for both games and blu-ray.

A few of my mates have an x-box and I can’t spot any difference in game play although I do prefer playstation controllers, but that’s just a personal preference.

It may have been expensive but it’s been worth every penny so far and now that we’re getting some (hopefully) great racing games in F1 and GT it only gets better. I hope you enjoy yours just as much !

  12. The pictures looks good if I can ever afford a PS or XBox then may be, not a bad thing to kill your time in the F1 summer break!

    1. Five Red Lights

  13. You’ve got to find out if they have got rid of all the rubbishness that was F1 2009.

Ability to change strategy, choose the correct wet tyre and stick to it, changing weather conditions, pit crew not standing there for 10 seconds before lifting the lollipop.

I cant remember all the other annoyances that were F1 2009, it will have to be a massive improvement before I consider buying.

    1. F1 2009 was never supposed to be a proper simulation, and is hardly comparable.

  14. I’ll buy it if my computer can make it work :-(

    1. as a geek and someone who never touches consoles, my opinion is that you’ll need dual core say 2ghz or more (core2duo/athlon X2), 2GB of RAM and at least a Geforce 9600GT or Radeon 2600XT.

I’d reccomend getting a Geforce 8800GT or if you insist on ATI then a Radeon 3870 or better.

All in all you’ll be looking at spending about £400 to get this running on a PC by building it yourself, BUT an 8800GT will make it look a LOT better than a 360 or a PS3. Spend less money, and you might as well get a console.

For someone above talking about getting a new laptop for this…. forget it. You need to spend about £1000 to get a laptop that will run this “well”, or spend less and end up watching a slideshow masquerading as a “game”. Get a laptop to be a laptop, and either make a decent gaming PC or stick to consoles.

For those interested, those screenshots are from the PC version, with CSAA applied, something that at a hardware level PS3’s and Xbox’s are incapable of producing. The image quality that you see on these marketing shots is top of the line PC performance. Think £250 graphics card, Quad Core, 4GB RAM, etc etc. A lot of money.

Final word, if you don’t understand half of what i’ve said, then just get it on a console.

      1. Will my computer be capable of running it with these specs? RAM: A-Ram 4GB 1333hz, CPU: Intel i7 860 2.8GHz Quad Core, Graphics: Palit GTS250 1GB DDR3.

Please help! But I am most worried about my graphics card – the rest is great!

      2. Cool, I have pretty much those exact specs lol.

      3. I just had a quick nosey and found this, so if anyone’s is curious about PC requirements, here you go:

        http://www.codemasters.com/support/details.php?gameid=3184&tab=game-requirements

        1. I am very undecided on which platform I will but this for… I might end up with two copies at this rate! :D But that link is just displaying a blank page with a “Codemasters” ribbon. But if anyone knows if this (my computer) would run it efficiently it would aid the selection process greatly!

          1. you have to choose the language and it continues to a site with Codemaster game info.

          2. Your computer specs are very good. You can easily run this game in full resolution and at its highest frame rate. Just make sure to close all other apps before starting. You’ll need most of your CoreI7’s power to run this.

      4. Guilherme Teixeira
        24th August 2010, 19:20

I wonder how tough will this game be on a GeForce 8600GT… I don’t really car about graphics, so I wouldn’t mind playing it with minimmum graphics, but oh god, I hope my card can run it without a drop in frame rate…

      5. Well, with my single core processor, I guess I’ll have to wait for F1 2011, and when I’ll have a little more money to spend on hardware…

  15. I’ve mentally prepared myself that this game will be rubbish as a simulator, that way it can only be better.

Seriously though, if all the business and commercial talk of the diaries is right, it could be a one of a kind SP game. With only 12 vehicles for MP though, the real simracers will probably be eyeballing rFactor 2 more than F1 2010.

    1. roll on rf2

I am into my real grass roots stuff on it at the mo, british hot rods. its kind of easier to get into the game if its not too far away from possible reality. maybe thats just me.

  16. I’ll buy it on PC……I haven’t got any of the consoles actually. I just hope that there will be a replay function so I can enjoy a great race over and over again, from different angles! Unlike the Wii F1 2009 unfortunatly, no replay funtion there sadly…!!

    1. Btw…….any playable demos yet anywhere?!

      1. Unfortunately, there won’t be a demo. If you want to see if your PC can handle it, I suggest trying the DiRT 2 demo to get a general idea.

      2. How stupid is that? I want to see for myself if its worth the money, so i want to play the game. Even if its 1 track on raceday, i want to het the feeling

  17. I think I might get it, if my PC can handle it.

  18. This game is one of the last thoughts that goes through my mind every night at the moment. To say I am looking forward to it is an understatement.

I normally pick up new games after a few weeks, to give them a chance to lose the ridiculous price tag that new games come seem to come out with. This time, its going to be pre-ordered!

  19. I’m really looking forward to F1 2010. Consider the recent experience Codemasters have with GRID and DIRT (both excellent games) I would like to think that they can do F1 justice.

I’m going to be getting the Xbox 360 version. The PC version might have better graphics, but I don’t think my rig will be able to handle it at high settings whilst remaining smooth (which is very important for an F1 game). I think the multiplayer experience could be a bit better on the Xbox, especially as my friends are more likely to buy the Xbox version.

  20. Still need to erase the memory of the horrible Wii F1 2009, but the Xbox and PS3 versions look awesome.

    1. “F1 Fanatic will have a full review of “F1 2010″ on all three formats next month. If there’s anything you particularly want to know about the game, please say in the comments.”

Hi, could you do some testing of the difference between directx9 and directx11 on the PC versions?

      thanks

Be warn PC version of F1 2010 uses “Games for Windows LIVE”, so will be block from racing online if live in an unsupported country. Unless know the trick of lying about what country you live in when setting up a LIVE ID.

      1. Hi, could you do some testing of the difference between directx9 and directx11 on the PC versions?

No, that kind of thing is really the area of a dedicated video game publication. I’ve not got the expertise for that.

  21. as a die-hard pc gamer, i usually steer clear of console ports. the graphics in f1 2010 are already dated by pc standards (the engine is dated by console standards) and how well, if at all, the pc’s flexibility is utilized is anyone’s guess.

i’ll likely buy it, but i won’t be the first. once the game is on the shelves, the real info will start circulating. if this turns out to be another MW2, my money stays in my pocket.

  22. If I did not have PS3 F1CE, the answer would probably be “I have pre-ordered it already”. I will instead wait until I have seen reviews . The reasons is I want a simulator and judging from some of the video material that are available, the physics does not seem very much like a simulator.

I am afraid that the “live the life” aspect in the game has stolen (development) time and attention from the actual drivig/sim aspect. I also know that if I buy the game only to realize it is more of an arcade than a sim, I would hate myself.

Demo releases should be mandatory for such games!

  23. I’m wondering… will Codemasters be releasing DLCs throughout the season with updated car models and liveries? I think if they want to satisfy the more serious F1 fans, they’ll have to include the developments the teams introduce on the cars.

    1. Five Red Lights
      27th August 2010, 23:57

I’m hoping the DLC is old tracks & a ‘best of’ from around the world. ie; old Nurb, old spa, old Hock, old Monza etc..

Best of; Road America, Mt Tremblant, Portimao, Bathurst, Philip Island, Brands, Donington, Macau, Laguna, C’mon codies, bring it!

The first thing I’m going to do in this game is choose Webber, choose Turkey then put Vettel into the grandstand! Happy B’day MW.

  24. Any idea when it is releasing in Asia.

“The much awaited game will hit North America and EPAC territories ahead of UK on September 22nd and September 23rd respectively. ”
    http://bit.ly/bQzmPq

But no date of releasing in Asian countries

    1. Five Red Lights
      27th August 2010, 23:59

Released worldwide on the Singapore Gp weekend.

  25. My best friend and I are getting it as soon as it comes out! It’s going to be a great way to liven up breaks between class this semester :)

  26. I’m sure we could have all done with this during the past 3 weeks ;-)

I want to buy it, and probably will, just not sure if for PC (mine is probably too slow) or PS3 (which I don’t have yet), so I just lumped for the PC option in the poll.

  27. I’m shocked at the amount of negativity this is getting. Ok, it might not be rFactor style, but to be quite honest, I found rFactor very dry and was very aware that it was modded. Now I understand that half of this was my inability to set up the handling (I asked around plenty of times but to no avail), because literally everytime I steered I seemed to spin (and I really am a sim-head) and found myself tip-toe’ing round corners and rapidly losing ground. The fact there’s no career or developments made rFactor feel somewhat dry. Codemasters have spent 2 and a half years on this game, getting Ant Davidson in to give it tweaks and a final nod, which should surely be commended. We have engine limits (something rFactor doesn’t have), strategies including a weather system like no other, and a career.

I just can’t help but think people might be a little negative for the sake of being negative… And this is coming from quite the pessimist :)

I’ll be getting my grubby mits on it as soon as possible, for the 360, as I don’t particularly trust my PC, and have a steering wheel set up for my 360, anyway.

    1. agreed. People are just nit-picking and it hasn’t even come out yet!

I liken it to walking miles and miles through the Sahara desert, and, upon finding a water fountain, complaining that it doesn’t have Coca-Cola or Pepsi.

F1 fans have been hung out to dry for a long time. I’m just eager to get my hands on it after waiting for so long.

  28. Also, there will be no demo at all, and I don’t believe there’s downloadable content. And before anyone asks, there will be no classic cars, either. The liscence has become increasingly restrictive.

    1. That’s my only gripe, I would have loved a classic car option, that would have been mega.

voted “undecided” simply due to GT5 being released (allegedly) on ps3 in november. that is a ‘must buy’. the demo version of the F1 game that’s been out for 2 or so years was disappointing and way too arcade-y. have not been able to see the videos above as they’re blocked where i am, but the screenshots look promising.

for the pc, it still has to be r-factor, and that is down to the physics and wide variety of mods

  30. I’ll download it from torrents :)

    1. haha…. lol. :D

    2. yeah me too…if its bad. just delete it.

  31. Really pumped for this, haven’t been this excited about a game for years. The career mode sounds awesome, and assuming there wont be any cheating or foul play on multiplayer, that could be good too. But that’s a big assumption to make.

  32. maybe i’ll get it for PC, but first i want to check the system requirements, i want to avoid horrible stop-motion effects…

  33. yeah, my Xbox 360 finally gets F1 game!!

  34. I have it on pre-order for the PS3 at EB Games. 23rd of September, can’t wait… Atleast I can watch the real thing till then.

  35. I’ve already pre-ordered it for PS3. As long as the AI are good, it should be a good game.

  36. I’m still undecided on it, as I have concerns over the damage model and how the penalty/flag system will work.

However, here’s a first look at the Korea circuit, which should give us some insight into how the real track will fare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-MrMlxK2sw

  37. my PC – including Radeon 5870 and three 20″ S-IPS panel widescreens setup in Eyefinity with MOMO force wheel and pedals was MADE for this game. I can’t wait.

And for the rest of the time, i’ll be on SimBin’s ever amazing GTR-Evo – with the MAK-Corp 2007 F1 mod.

    1. so you paid too much… there will be quite average graphics there… console port sucks.
5870 is way to much for this game i think. looking at videos and screenshots.

  38. They should have released it on the Monday after Hungary…then, thousands of desperate F1 fans would have bought it over the summer break. I know I would. Anyway, I think that it’s probably the safest option to get it on 360, guaranteed to work and more sociable.

Might have to get the PC version for when I go back to uni though…anyone know if a Geforce 7950gt should be enough to make it playable?

    1. in a word… no. 7950GT is about as powerfyul as the chip in a PS3 – although the PS3 version is heavily optimised. You will be able to run it on that card, but it won’t look anywhere near as good as on the xbox or ps3.

      Spend £50 on a second-hand 8800GT and you’ll be fine ;)

      1. i agree, a used 8800gt would be be a good upgrade for short money.

  39. Of course I’m buying it! I’ve been with F1 2006 Championship Edition for my PS3 since forever, it was time for a change. Judging from the videos, I think Codemasters did a tremendous job

  40. I’m getting a PS3 just for this game and GT5. Well, and for F1CE too. Codemasters also makes the driving game, GRID, for PS3 and the handling on it is pretty good. If they go along those lines, I’m very excited for F1 2010.

  41. I have a PS3 and an Xbox, but I shall be buying it for the 360. More chances of online races with my friends that way!

    It’s looking really good.

  42. Yes, i bought a steering wheel for my xbox on sunday in preparation. Been playing some Forza3 to get used to after using pads all my life :D

  43. Keith: In what concerns simulation, is it something close to (or better than), say, Grand Prix Legends or Forza Motorsport 3, or is it something more on the arcade side? Oh, and any idea on how many frames per second?

  44. I am buying it for xbox360. I am not a gamer, but I have an xbox and I have 2 games that I almost never play. BUT, I do have the old Grand Prix 4 on my PC that I play about 6 times a year.

From GP4 I have learned the tracks that are on that game very well and it translates to watching the races. I feel like I know every inch of the tracks that are on GP4 and are still raced on and at the newer tracks I noticed a slight amount disconnect. AND I’ve been watching F1 since 1987….

For this reason alone the game will be worth it….it really does make watching the races a little bit better.

    1. I just hope all of us who grew up with Geof’s GP series wont be disappointed..

      1. It doesn’t sound like. This one seems for real.

  45. I think before anyone says “I’m not buying it”

They should watch this > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKRLSLY_CQg

That is awesome, just made me want it even more now.

  46. Keith; can you put a link up for the forum topic “F1F Users Gamertag Thread”? This way more people can list their user-names and we can have an F1Fanatic championship!

    1. this might work to get to the forum topic: https://www.racefans.net/forum/topic.php?id=242

  47. No. I don’t think my laptop has a video card capable of playing the game and my games console is a PS2 not a PS3 so I’ll make do with F12006 and an imagination!

  48. Hi Keith,

I am definitely buying, but undecided on whether to get the PS3 version or the PC version.

    Some questions:

    1) for PS3, is it possible for me to play 1 vs 1 against my brother if we have 2 controllers? Split-screens?

    2) for PS3 and PC, how are the players around the world going to compete against one another in multiplayer mode? is it going to be like Battle.net used for Warcraft and Starcraft?

    3) Lastly, can I request you post a video film of someone racing the Singapore circuit? I can only currently rely on limited clips/images of the nightrace…

    Thanks!

  49. Yes, I’ll buy but I desperately hoping that the normal wacky behavior of AI cars is fixed here. Specifically, the weird habit of the opposition to slam on the brakes mid-corner, for no reason, or the habit of lapped cars to slam into the back of you at the next corner, Verstappen-style, after you have gone by.

  50. Yes F1 2010 looks totally stunning but if you want a “simulator” as opposed to an “arcade” game…look no further…

No I won’t be buying it. But I will be buying the iRacing F1 Williams car along with the recently laser scanned version of Spa.

  51. I am buying it, in fact I have already pre ordered it and can’t wait! Its a shame there will be no demo :(

    PS
PS3 is better than the X box don’t know what some people are thinking .

  52. As a student I rarely buy new games very often, and if I have to choose between Gran Turismo 5 and F1, then F1 doesn’t stand a chance.

  53. No, rFactor is better than anything Codemasters can make.

  54. I’m going to check it out. My company builds motion simulators so obviously it’s of interest; CodeMasters has put support for our hardware in Dirt and Dirt2, so we’ll see how it goes.

I find it hard to believe that it’s going to be a
*serious* simulation, not because Codies are incompetent, but just because it’s being sold to a console audience. You just can’t have a hardcore simulator that’s aimed at an audience with joypads – particularly one simulating F1 cars.

Usually things have to get fudged to accommodate the controls, and when you use a steering wheel it feels like you’re driving a school bus on ice…

On the bizarre side, with next year’s presumed introduction of the Mario Kart adjustable wings, the old video game standby of giving the following cars an artificial speed boost will have to be added to the video game to increase realism…

    1. That’s kind of what I’m afraid of aswell, although a game like F1 Challenge 99-02 is playable with both a controller and a wheel, depending on de difficulty settings and steering aids.

  55. Looks gorgeous, just hope it’s as playable as the legendary Geof Crammonds version. Great thing about the PC version, is the price…

  56. For now, I will buy it for PC. But first I will check other gamers review and F1Fanatic one (will not judge the game by other “profesional” reviews). All I need is realistic hardware requirements, proper steering wheel support, and a little bit of simulation (at least on F1C level) – if thats in game – I will buy it.

  57. I’ll most likely be buying the game, although what I’ve read so far gave me no useful insight whatsoever in terms of whether the game is good enough to be played as a believably realistic simulation. If it turns out to be mostly arcade, I’d probably be very disappointed.

In any case, I’m happy to see an official realisation of one of the current seasons.

  58. Wow!! I am taken back by some of these comments! Rfactor sounds so amazing I’m surprised you can get you head out of it…read and post on a website! Some people don’t have mega pc to run rfactor. For xbox and ps3 users this is the first f1 game, at least for a long time. so please let us at least make our minds up when its actually out!

    1. You dont need mega PC to run rfactor (its AD 2006 engine – core 2 duo is more than enough), but you will need quite strong PC to run F1 2010 in DirectX 11 mode :D

  59. Definately yes. I haven’t had real F1 game since GP2, because GP3 and GP4 didn’t suit for my computer when they were published, and I wasn’t interested in outdated game when I had a computer where those games would have run.

I have played some racing games, such as rFactor but that’s another story.

  60. I played F1 2010 on Sunday at gamescom in Cologne.

They had about eight machines set up, each with a low-down F1 seat, steering wheel, pedals and huge screen.

They generally had two LAN races running in parallel, each with four drivers. I raced at Monza (and won ;), though two competitors were disqualified mid-race for reasons unknown. You seem to get warnings for cutting chicanes too often, so that may have been the reason.

The graphics are really impressive, and I noticed tyre wear showing after some of my off-track excursions. But sadly there was only time for a single three-lap race.

Also, I just found this video: apparently I missed out on seeing Adrian Sutil playing the game there!
    http://www.vidoemo.com/yvideo.php?i=UTZJTUZGcWuRpcjlvWkE

  61. Of course!

Also.. go to http://www.f12010.co.uk to sign up & create your own online championships.

  62. Due to a house move I had to stop playing GP legends with a wheel, having tried many controllers found the Xbox controller to be the best and ended up beating every lap record I set previously with a wheel. May not be realistic but is cheaper and saves on space. No longer a PC gamer so will just settle for the 360 version – I own a PS3 but hate the controller for driving games, also prefer the 360’s online interface – as they say you get what you pay for….

  63. Well, I’ve been waiting for a good F1 game to PC since Microprose Grand Prix 3.

However, this game is based on the same engine as Dirt and Grid. I really hope this game has nothing in common with these two games but if anything from Dirt or Grid comes through in F1 2010, this could be a disaster…

  64. I bought the PS3 when it first came out just to play F1 games and also Gran Turismo. It’s been a long wait for a new game. almost 3 and a half years but it looks amazing and i can’t wait for next month.

  65. R-Factor 2 is going to dominate this…

The tyre model looks interesting but R factor can keep up to date with the f1 season with constant user made updates…

    no competition

  66. Yes, I’ll be buying it. Pity they couldn’t model the safety car, how hard could it be?

  67. Good luck to Codies with this. It certainly sets a new benchmark for F1 graphics. And it is sweet coming on here and seeing GP4 still so fondly remembered. Makes the nights on the office floor seem worth it. :)

As for rFactor and how good it is. Well……check out some of the testimonials on the right hand side of this links page.

    http://www.rfactor-pro.com/

  68. This Game will be amazing compared to F1CE.

In terms of graphics and which one is better between the 360 and the ps3, they will be the same because F1 2010 has been built and designed to work on both consoles equally, usually this means they construct it to the 360’s specs and just port it over to the ps3 because it can handle it. In games that have been built for both consoles you might notice that the 360 has brighter colours and the ps3 has more complex shadows, just guessing from previous games that have been built for both consoles.

I will be getting it for my ps3, because I can play my mates online and my ps3,

I don’t have a Steering wheel yet, been looking at the Logitech GT but one thing that annoys me is that there is no flappy paddle gears.

What steering wheel will you guys be using on the PS3?

    1. I’m contemptlating the purchase of a G27, now that I have a computer capable of running the likes of the Race series etc., and with GT5 out in November.

  69. It looks pretty good. I think it is one of the most realistic racing games nowadays. Codemasters’ been doing a good job making fantastic racing games since sometime ago.

  70. I haven’t decided whether to buy F1 2010, but I probably won’t. My computer is too slow to run rFactor – what are the realistic chances of it running this game?!?

    1. spanky the wonder monkey
      25th August 2010, 9:40

i found the most important thing for rFactor is a ‘decent’ graphics card. my pc is 3+ years old, but i shoved a geforce GT 240 (about £65) in and it plays like a dream. output is set to 1080p and i get no probs. hth.

      1. Since my computer hasn’t been upgraded since 2005, I’m not sure a GT 240 would even fit in my motherboard. Even if it did, my processor doesn’t quite meet the minimum specifications for the game…

  71. I am SO buying this game it’s not even funny.

  72. I will not buy. I’ll buy GT5 and GT5 will consume all my free time.

    1. I bought my driving force gt for that 2 years ago.. Still waiting. Looks INSANELY good though.. November 3rd UK date :)

  73. Talladega Knight
    24th August 2010, 22:48

There is definitely a high level of detail in the game as in Preview 5, for example, there is a Scottish flag (3.06) in the background and there always seems to be a Saltire kicking about on race day, even when there isn’t even a Scottish driver :)

  74. I’m buying it.. I have a Logitech Driving force pro , compatible with ps3. Aww YEAH! (my pc isnt good enough to run it.. :()

  75. I’ve watched all the developer diaries, I’ve been amazed, and a few weeks ago after watching the ‘Live the Life’ video I was shivering with anticipation. HOWEVER, if they implemented all these added features but miss the most important element – the physics and handling – I’ll go back to the no-frills, cheap, yet very engaging rFactor F1 mods.

I will be buying it for both the PC and Xbox 360, and deciding from there which platform I’ll play on. If it’s as good as it looks, I may just pimp out my PC system and turn it into one of those ridiculous driving sim setups, complete with racing seat and multiple screens :D

  76. Just signed up for f1fanatic, so new comer here (about time, been on this website for 2years!!)

i seriously cannot w8 for this game to come out. i do hope you can customise your own helmet, mine will be all black

  77. Do people not realise that Codemasters are very aware that they have a huge job of pleasing F1 fans? They have an F1 test driver on board detailing where specific bumps are on courses, explaining how the car feels as the tyres wear etc etc.

This is also only the first instalment of hopefully a great series of F1 racing games. They will get it pretty close to right this game, but in a few years they should definitely have it nailed.

In terms of *where* to play the game, why does it matter? If you don’t already own a platform, then do your research. I’m not about to go out and spend thousands on a new PC set up to get the best out of the game… it is just a game. My console will do just fine.

  78. i sure will get this game n do the parody senna-ish rough driving tactics in multiplayer haha

  79. will this game be launched in india??

  80. I’m not decided but probably not. The last Codemasters games I’ve played are really bad.

    1. racing games, I mean. DiRT was deceptive and GRiD was completely ****.

      1. spanky the wonder monkey
        25th August 2010, 12:14

to be honest, the vast majority of gamers out there would probably prefer the arcade style of dirt & grid which is why they’re easy to drive.
personally, i prefer a sim rather than a racer, but the learning curve is much steeper and would be frustrating for someone not wanting that level of accuracy.

i would like to thing that f1-2010 would have a more realistic driving model, but i don’t think that will hold true.

i’d disagree that CM games are really bad. they are very good at what they do – easy to get into, easy to progress and provide fun rather than frustration. they are also aimed at the average gamer, not the die hard sim fan.

look at dirt / cmr etc against richard burns rally. RBR was superb because of the physics, but didn’t appeal to the arcade racers because it was just too hard and needed time invested to even make it through the first 3 corners. me? i loved it! best rally game ever.

at least gt5 is out in november to satisfy the need for a more realistic sim.

  81. Simples, I will not be buying this game or any model of the 2009-2010 F1 cars until they fix the ugly rear wing!!!

  82. No save option so 100% race distance is out. Hope its good otherwise its back to GP4 with latest season mod

  83. I’ll be definately buying it. Last F1 game I played was F1 98..and that was abysmal. I just hope the online mode isn’t full of idiots turning it into Destruction Derby 2.

  84. It looks stunning, but like all these games after 30 seconds of driving I get colds sweats and feel terribly car sick and have to stop – bugger!

  85. I was waiting and waiting for GT5 and when i saw Forza Motorsport 3 on Xbox360 so I decided to get a bundled package with the console and game for a bargain price to give me something new to play til GT5 came out.. Fast forward 6 months later and we nearly have GT5, and now f1 2010 as well, so time to get that PS3 I have been waiting for :-)

  86. This is a 360 purchase for me and looks phenomenal. I’m really looking forward to it. The 7 year career, starting in an HRT, Virgin, or Lotus, will be an absolute goldmine of ongoing play. Can’t wait!

  87. So what is YOUR plan?

    3/5/7 year career mode
    Quarter/Half/Full Race distance
    Easy/Medium/Hard
Team Plan (exp points into development for current year or next years car)

I think I might start with:

    7 Year career mode
    quarter race distance
    hard difficulty
1st Year – Virgin (put exp in next years car)
Just learning the tracks and driving, also getting a base setup for all the tracks.
2nd Year – Virgin (put exp in current car)
Challenge for a Championship point, consistently beating other new teams.
3rd Year – Williams (put exp in current car)
Aggressive approach, aim for points and Q3 in qually.
4th Year – Renault (put exp in next years car)
Points each race, top 8 in championship
5th Year – Renault (put exp in current car)
Few podiums and first win. top 5 in championship
6th Year – RedBull (put exp in current car)
    consistent podiums and wins. WDC
7th Year – Mercedes (put exp in current car)
    podiums and wins, double WDC

The videos are long on telling you how great it is, but very, very short on what you can do with it and what it would look like as a driver. The press conference and similar stuff is just a bunch of crap to me. I’m changing my mind from I might buy it to no way.

  89. Definitely will buy.

I have a PS3, Playseat Evo, Logitech wheel and 42″ Sammy plasma just to play racing games… this one included ;-)
