Here’s today’s round-up:

Fernando Alonso relaxed and sensing a ‘perfect moment’ with Ferrari (The Guardian)

“I’m sure that for all championship contenders there are two or three races a year you would like to change because you did something wrong. In our case, because there are high expectations, there are many more comments. When I’m in front or I’m half a second quicker than my team-mate, that is seen as normal. When we do something wrong, it will be everywhere. We have to deal with that pressure.”

Welcome to Spa: Formula One’s most feared track (The Independent)

Michael Schumacher: “Obviously we always talk about Eau Rouge and indeed, starting here some years ago it was thrilling. But in this generation of cars it’s certainly a lot easier because the cars are so improved. But Spa is still a great excitement and it’s not a single corner. It’s the first sector all together, through La Source, down the hill, up Eau Rouge and then the climb all the way through Raidillion to Les Combes… This is the most loved place for me.”

Comment of the day

Another COTD from an F1 Fanatic reader at Spa this weekend:

We were at the track today. Just about to tuck in for the night as we have ‘red-neck’ standing tickets and are getting up super early to get a good spot for the race. Alonso has been smooth and fast all weekend. Alonso starting tenth felt as good as a pole would have for the McLaren.

There was an enormous cheer when Lewis bettered his position to second in the rain on slicks when everyone else couldn’t (including the mighty bulls).
It’s Hammer Time

What’s going on with those McLaren front wings at Spa?

Site updates

After Friday’s problems the site ran without any significant glitches yesterday.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthdays to Metrium and Jelle van der Meer!

On this day in F1

Michael Schumacher won his seventh world championship on this day in 2004.

He finished second to Kimi Raikkonen in the Belgian Grand Prix – the first time he’d finished anywhere other than first that year, having chalked up 12 wins and one DNF up to that point.

  1. My favorite day. Race Day!!!

  2. It’s Hamiltime!! (anyone else say this, or is it just me?) Will be supporting aussie grit today too. Come on Mark!

  3. Indycar-Will Power’s crew let him down. Bad pit stop, didn’t get enough fuel. Had to pit with two laps left. Dario won. What a battle for next week in Sparta! Off to bed so I can rise early for Spa.

  4. It’s Hamiltime!! :)

  5. … This is the perfect race to come back to after the break.

  6. Anyone see the GP3 race this morning? Was absolutely brilliant. Genius Button-esque gamble from Tambay for a mega win. More of the same for the Grand Prix please

    1. Yeah that was awesome. Wickens’ win yesterday was pretty clever too, in a different way.

  7. Parents, ay?
First GP in 4 weeks ( cause I missed Hungary) and I am being dragged off to town for an eye test, at half an our into town, half an our out of town plus te eye test itself I have missed the start of the race, no doubt I’ll be drgged round the shops too in order to guarentee I miss the whole race.
    It’s a conspiracy I tell you!

  8. One of the most awaited races of the calendar. Its looking to be a cracker, esp with the weather teasing everybody.
See ya’ll on the live blog in a little while.. :)

  9. Remember we were discussing Karun taking to the Korean track next weekend. And questioning weather there’s actually any asphalt on the track to drive over?

Will Buxton now brings us an “exclusive” on the actual Red Bull car he is going to drive:
