    1. I actually switched off when Button was leapfrogged. Boring race, not much overtaking, plus I really dislike Ferrari and Alonso so I have some prejudice here although I’ll admit Alonso did do a good job. The only good thing about this race was Webber vs Hulkenberg (who really should be penalised) and, even better, how short the race was. Oh, and I guess it makes the championship tighter as well.

      1. Yes indeed, a real SAD DAY for the Ferrari haters!!! :D

        Forza Ferrari!!! :)

        1. But you did botch Massa’s pitstop AND Alonso’s pitstop timing :-P

      2. There was a lot of overtaking. Web overtook both Kubica and Hulk. This race was entertaining – ALO challenging BUT, WEB slipping back and then making places up, KUB slipping back from 5th to 7th, VET having problems then rectifying them. HAM making a mistake. The 4th-10th battle was great, and it was genuine racing rather than being exciting because of crashes/retirements.

KUB was terrible today, not sure what was going on. WEB needs to sort out his starts, but seeing him take SCH, KUB and HUL was fantastic.

        1. what hamilton did wasnt a mistake! IT was stupidity! I was soo looking forward to hamilton charging up the ferrariz rear ends in the latter part of the race. He clearly had the speed to do tat. he had no reason to squeeze through. He just doesnt understand which is the time to attack n which is the time to sit back n watch someone else crash!
A sad day for a big McLaren/Hamilton fan!:-(

They ruined button’s race also with the bad tyre strategy! Double sad! :-(

          1. i agree he was too agressive he made 3 creucial mistakes first his hot lap 2nd blaming the setting and 3rd he hit massa on the upside Whitmarsh was very polite today anyway everyone expected mclaren to win so…

        2. “KUB was terrible today”

5.6 sec pitstop is the answer. Sloppy work for Renault mechanics.

        3. I noticed all that but meh.

        4. Robert wasn’t terrible, he had a great start but not so good pit stop. On the other hand Hulk’s pit crew did a great job, and earlier he cut a chicane a few of times, so ultimately he emerged ahead of Kubica. This caused a bit of fight in the first corner. Webber took advantage of that (rightly so) and overtook Robert into a second chicane.

Hulkenberg however should be penalized. I don’t watch F1 to see drivers repeatedly cutting corners and using illegal defense maneuvers.

All in all, this wasn’t a great race for Renault-powered cars, but everyone expected that. However both Vettel’s and Webber’s recovery was impressive and it was a great race for the championship. I rated it 7.

      3. really bias robbie i believe that mclaren has won some boring races aswell. This year champ has been amazing but the races havent been fantastic apart from canada and melbourne, last Gp was very boring won from pole the rain wasnt a factor, last year the big problem was the champ this year its the fight maybe next year we will have both

    2. A bit dull, the race was sadly decided by pit stops.

      1. I’m with you on this one. This has been nothing but a return to the bad old days of races being decided purely on pitstops and collisions. What a waste.

      2. Exciting start, Fernando and Felie sharing the corner… after that, not that much.

      3. Funny thing. I actually predicted, massa will be instructed to crash into hamilton n get him out of the race.
Tho it didnt happen exactly as i said, but still! :-P

    3. 5/10

The Soft tires are a joke. They should never last the whole race. Right guy won, but like most Monza races, a procession.

      1. On the bright side, the WDC is back to 5 drivers again. Brazil will be epic…

        1. Agreed, the softs were a joke. That and the non-application of the rules by the stewards rather spoiled it all, just seemed that they were rather too keen to ensure Webber didn’t open too large a points gap over Vettel and the rest. I only want 5 drivers in play if it doesn’t feel like a fix, and this felt like the hand of Bernie to me.

    4. Very close racing for the top positions and a Ferrari victory. Only a 1-2 could be better. 10/10

      1. Read the instructions, please:

“Please vote based on how entertaining and exciting you thought the race was, not on how your preferred driver or team performed.”

        1. So what’s the guy supposed to do if his preferred team winning makes the race exciting for him?

          1. Of course there is no way to avoid some bias, but this just too close to a simple “my team won, 10/10”

            1. Been at those sour grapes again Dennis?

            2. Errr, no… It just seems pretty lame to go directly against the wishes of the one conducting the poll, making it useless in the process, especially since Keith uses these data for analysing in articles.

            3. Err, no Dennis… Matt88 also talked about the close racing for position, which probably helped make it a 10 for him.

            4. well, it’s been an interesting race where Alonso and Massa have been among the main characters, so in my (necessarily personal) view it’s been a great race.
However, i also gave 10/10 to GPs where Ferraris didn’t perform well, as in Turkey.

      2. Its easy to see the influence of the Ferrari fans (because they are a lot), from the vote on not the most exciting race as the results peaks at 7(which are the reasonable people voting) and 10(voted by the Ferrari fans).

        1. yeah. Race was good. Since the top 3 runners didnt really try out anythin after button pitted, there wasnt much drama there.
Vettel drove pretty well. Rosberg was not in the camera at all. hulkenberg n webber danced arnd for a while, while kubica followed.
n sutil was running arnd n then he also didnt get any further than 16th place. michael showed off a bit against webber n then he also slowed down.
          So yeah, 7.
No spectacular crashes even! :-P tat wudve made it 8 for sure! :-D

      3. First time this year that Alonso won and Massa didn’t follow-through with a 1-2. Previous two wins for ALO had MAS in second place.

Shows that when Ferrari are strong, they tend to make the most of it

        1. Like Silverstone? Valencia? Canada?

          1. Valencia and Silverstone were ruined by the safety car.

            1. And Canada was ruined by the traffic.

            2. In Silverstone the saftey car had nothing to do with it. First Alonso had an abysmal start and then he cut a corner.

Even without a safety car he would have fallen far back since there was a whole line of cars just behind him (initially held up by Kubica)

Valencia indeed Alonso lost out a little by the safety car, but then he collapsed psychologically. He just stoppe racing.

            3. @nyam – Everyone at the top in Canada had to navigate traffic, so it was just Alonso making excuses for being caught napping by Button.

    5. Because of my massive dislike for Alonso I agree with Robbie!

Great race until the pit stops

      1. Is this Eddie Jordan talking? :))

    6. 6/10 from me.

Good drives from the top 3, not that great to watch though.

      Enjoyed Webbers fight with Hulk

    7. Short and boring, shame HAM got caught out by the ALO tail gunner but I guess thats what He`s there for.

      1. Puh-leeze – Hamilton put his nose where didn’t belong and took himself out.

        1. Thats what I said, got caught out not taken out.

          1. Hamilton hit Massa, not Alonso

            1. lol, Alonso`s tail gunner is Massa.

      2. Even as a Lewis fan I can admit it was his fault. He seemed to outbreak himself a bit.

        1. It was such a bone-headed move, completely did not make sense. You can’t just dive into the inside like that from so far back, there is only one thing that can happen from there..

        2. It was the first lap and Lewis let himself go too much, I think the speed he had down the first two straights was something he felt he had to capitalise on, he could have won the race or changed it’s complexion had he been more reserved. A podium was certainly available for him maybe a win, he’ll regret that moove more than anything, he must win races for the championship now, an he must take more risks than otherwise he would have had to.

    8. 11/10
nothing to say.. no opponents for Ferrari!

      1. Other than the guy who finished second in between them anyway

        1. Right!
Button did a great job.. i was referring to Ham, Vet and Web

      2. Did I not see Button/Mclaren beat Ferrari at the start and lead the first half? or so of the race…….. the only way Ferrari won was by a fater pit stop and NOT because Ferrari was faster on the race tract………. CIAO, R & R

        1. Ferrari were definitely quicker on the track: Italian Grand Prix fastest laps

    9. Younger Hamilton
      12th September 2010, 14:35

9/10 great race despite Lewis crashing on the 1st lap

    10. Anyone know what happen to Webber after the first corner he dropped to 9th but I never got to see why.

      1. Yeah, he dropped to 6th behind Rosberg and Kubica on the first corner, but he was being muscled heavily on the next chicane by somebody (maybe with Schumacher?), and may have been the one who kicked up a bit of gravel from a brief excursion, losing 3 places to Hulk, Schu and Vettel. Whichever bright spark does the feed never went back to look at what happened, which is very common for first lap incidents lower than 5th place unfortunately, so we never see what happens.

        1. Oh the feed. The directing during this race was THE WORST of this season by far. Missed all the action, no replays, and terrible decisions on who to follow/when.

For eg. when Webber was creeping up on Kubica, they cut to the Kubica onboard, which showed .. nothing. Webber was all over the back of him and all that we saw was the back of Hulks car.

          1. i fully agree the feed was bloody everywhere but the action, even in the pits with no one there, heaven for bid they nearly forgot Alonso’s last last lap.

    11. I gave it an 8. Wasn’t a classic, but there were a few nice passes and there’s nothing quite like a Ferrari victory at Monza.

    12. I voted 8/10. Had a bit of a think about it. The racing between Alonso and Button was very good until Alonso got past. A shame Button had the damaged wing bit, but it made for a great show. Massa was making a nice drive of it as well.

Exiting overtakes from Webber, good battle to get past the Hulk. Very nice drive from Vettel after his engine let him down a moment, good safe to get to 4th.

As I tipped, Rosberg best of the rest, very good job from him. There was quite a bit o nice driving in the Middle- and backfield, just a shame FOM missed quite a bit of the action again.

Must admit, that Ferrari winning in front of the Tifosi did put me up another 1 point in rating it.

      1. Once again, you take the words right out of my mind :) I would have liked to see a bit more fighting at the front after the pit stops, but on the whole there was quite a bit of action behind them, apart from Rosberg once again just cruising a silent race to good points.

    13. Regardless of what drivers finished where this was a solid race. I’ll give it between a 7 or 8 out of 10.

    14. 7/10

It could have been far better, but at least it brought some balance back to the championship.

    15. 6. Dull race but great for the championship!

Not a lot happened but was nerve-racking at the end with Vettel. 5 way title fight again though, that is just AWESOME!

    16. 8, IMO

had Lewis stayed in the race, it’d have been a superb Grand Prix!

      it was pretty good anyway!

    17. The race is ON for the Championship and emotions for the fanatiques of F1 with last five races to go

    18. 8/10. For me, a race that shows that overtaking as such doesn’t necessarily make a good race, but close racing does. Maybe no great excitement, but lots of sustained tension. Monza hows why it’s important to have true variety among the tracks on the calendar: different characteristics, different races, different things that make races interesting.

      1. close racing implies overtaking, or overtaking opportunities, doesn’t it?

otherwise I agree. for monza, this was a good and exciting race. there were a few periods where it was all routine, but the action made up for it

    19. An alright, although not a brilliant race – decided in the pit stops.

The Alonso vs. Button duel was exciting, until Ferrari brought Alonso ahead of Button.

The Rosberg/Kubica/Hulkenberg/Webber group was by far the most exciting one, though. Hulkenberg should get a penalty for cutting those chicanes – Alguersuari did. However, similarly to the podium drivers the positions have been decided by pit stops – Kubica’s yet again rubbish stop made him lose out to Hulkenberg and eventually to Webber.

Finally – the big loser of the race was Bridgestone. Soft tyres should NEVER last the whole race distance, yet alone be in the shape to produce decent lap times. An absolute joke.

Gave it a 7/10, mainly because the championship fight has tightened even more. The race itself was mediocre.

    20. Jenson was driver of the day for me. Not only did he manage to keep Alonso and Massa at bay for most of the race but he did that with a slower and quite damaged car.

    21. *yawn* one for the ferrari fans, this one. 5/10

for the championship though, probably couldn’t have been a better result!

    22. Boring race in reality. As much as I hate to admit it Ferrari and Alonso were superb all weekend. It’s a shame Lewis went out as a it was shaping up for a 4 way battle at the front.

    23. Emotions aside a 7. Not the best this season but pretty good for Monza; Webber put in some good overtakes, Hulk was all over the place, there was a fascinating battle at the front and I liked seeing the different strategies esp Seb.

    24. Keith, speedvision tv made a big thing about the atmosphere at Monza and obviously with a Ferrari win it must have been incredible but tell me how is the crowd allowed to invade the track —you could see there were literally thousands below the podium? Other venues are fined for this and we remember all the fuss after Mansells win at Siverstone years ago but obviously it does add to “the show”! What is the difference with Monza?? Maybe Mr Todt can explain?

      1. almost every track allows the fans onto the main straight area for the podium ceremony .

      2. They are not allowed to let the spectators on while the cars are still driving.

Other than that I think every main straight get’s opened up for the crowd before the ceremony.

    25. A fair race – 7/10.

I enjoyed the battle with Button and Alonso, and Webber’s race was pretty exciting.

Shame Lewis went off in the first lap – would have been good to have had him shaking things up a little in the top 4.

    26. I think the race missed Lewis not being up there among the top 4. He was obviously (too) pumped up and I think he would have been in the mix adding an element of interest.

Not happy with Hulkenberg at all or race control’s handling of that last chicane cut. A bad decision in my eyes and one of the first real cock ups by them this year.

    27. Great result!

And what about that sea of fans under the podium!

      1. I’ve never seen so many people, that sea was endless. Truly a sight to behold.

    28. I gave it an 8. Nice and tense, good battles throughout the feild, strong from Ferrari, great Drive from Jenson with that rear damage. This raced missed Hamiltons precence a great deal he’d have spiced things up nicley.

    29. I’m a bit surprised by the F1Fanatics saying this was a dull race. I thought fans with a bit of F1 knowledge would be studiously captivated by Jenson’s radical setup, Vettel’s slow lap to let Webber through (funny, I hear they don’t get along), Vettel making up places by waiting till the last moment to pit, Webber and Schumacher’s tough but fair pass, Webber’s pass on Hülkenberg and lots of very happy Italian fans who all went bananas at the end of the race … No? … hey guys, it won’t rain on every race this year. Get used to it.

      1. i agree, i also believe that top drivers continously trading fastest laps is quite as exciting as overtaking itself.

        1. I am too, I thought it was an awesome race (and no I am not a Ferrari fan). But seriously, when are RBR going to start backing Webber? While it was certainly a good strategy to get Vettel back out in 4th considering his ‘engine problem’, surely Webber needed those points more than Vettel?

      2. “I thought fans with a bit of F1 knowledge would be studiously captivated by Jenson’s radical setup”

That’s what made the race for me. Would have loved to see him win, purely because of the ‘gamble’ on the high downforce setup. Still, a solid second with, as one of the commentators said this weekend, a “barn door of a wing at Monza”.

I was captivated all the way through, studying lap and sector times… I rated it a 9/10, and Jenson’s setup is almost the whole reason. I would even have been hoping for an Alonso win if he’d had that setup, and I dislike him with a passion.

    30. Warning before post – I am Webber biased. But really, how did the Hulk escape penalty? Three times I counted he used the lovely off-road to help his mistakes, but there was one incident in turn one where he messed his braking up completely. Easy job for Webber, except Hulk cut the chicane. It makes me angry just thinking about it…

Still, I like Alonso, so, good race :)

      1. Tough race for Webber, I don’t think he got one lap in free air. Frustrating but he showed class by not blowing his temper and the race.

Took points off his nearest competitor and the WDC lead in a race that was supposed to be about damage limitation so job done. Webber’s got that championship aura about him, looks supremely confident.

        1. Agree – why on earth was the Hulk not penalised or made to yeild? Poor decision fom the stewards there.

          1. Maybe he didn’t gain an advantage. Alguersuari demonstrably did (he passed cars) but I’m not sure Hülkenberg did.

            1. If Hülkenberg had not used the run-off on the incident dragon posted, his position on track would have been much worse. The off-track excursion prevented him from losing on-track position, and critically prevented Webber closing enough to get a tow down to the next corner – as spot I believe he executed two or three passes at during the race.

Penalties should be applied if you gain an advantage or negate a disadvantage, and I felt Hülkenberg clearly kept ahead only by dint of leaving the track.

    31. A lot of overtaking in the midfield, and the Alonso’s jump on Button was exciting too! Even though I don’t like Vettel, I have to say his late pit stop was great too!

      1. Massa was just trying to get a leg up on his teammate there, and Hamilton was a bit too aggressive, he himself admitted he should have kept back a bit, “and then I would still be racing”.

    32. Obvious realy that Ferrari after their cheating ways ganged up to take lewis off…

      1. It was really nobody’s fault. Massa couldn’t have avoided it. It was a very busy moment for him too. I think Massa was concentrating on Button and Alonso at that time.

      2. Whaat are you talking about? Lewis just was just a bit too agressive into the corner, Massa didn’t see him and Lewis had his wheel knocked off. :S

It was a racing incident, and I actually quite like Lewis.

      3. It was Lewis’ bad judgment that killed his race, no gangs involved. Please attack Ferrari when they do wrong, but today they did everything right.

I am not a Ferrari fan.

    33. Happy for Alonso and Massa, and Jenson, but whats wrong with Kubicas mechanics? Were they taking their vengeance for Spa? Or what ? :)
And Hulkenberg getting away without a penalty for cutting the chicanes ~three times, and waving in front of Webber at least one time??

    34. Gave it a 6. Pretty exiting race but mostly because of the pit-stops. And as others have pointed out the TV coverage were very disappointing, we didn’t really see why Webber fell all the way back to 9th and so on. The start/first corner was fantastic though. But from there on it was pretty dull. I was personally exited because of the lap timebattle between Vettel and Nico on the final laps because i am a Vettel fan, but for anyone else it probably wasn’t as exiting as i thought so i tried to keep that out of my voting.
But it was a great race for the championship battle.

    35. On a business tripp in UK, so I was enjoying watching the BBC coverage. A superb race and superb coverage. I was really releaved first lap was Safety Car free. Alonso showed what he can do given a reasonable car.

One comment regarding the BBC coverage. What is the deal with Eddie Jordan? Did he really imply that Massa was “nice” to Alonos in turn 2? What I could see was that Aloso had the inner going into turn 2 and could easily have pushed Massa to the right out on the grass/gravel. I think they also touched (more water on the fire of Ferrar/Alonso cynics :) ), but it was Alonso who was nice there.

That guy takes every opportunity to disrepute/misscredit Ferrari, and if the opportunity is not there he makes his best to created it. I am starting to understand how come lots of Brittish fans are sooo cynical when it comes to Ferrari & Alonso…

      1. “That guy takes every opportunity to disrepute/misscredit Ferrari”

I think that’s very harsh. He was actually very pleased with Ferrari winning at Monza and said so.

“I am starting to understand how come lots of Brittish fans are sooo cynical when it comes to Ferrari & Alonso…”

Martin Brundle actually agreed with the FIA handling of the team orders result. The BBC coverage is actually quite impartial when looked at overall. Certain characters have opinions, but consensus is usually reached in quite a dialectical way between the panel.

British fans just don’t like being lied to by Ferrari!

        1. Martin Brundle is without doubt the best F1 commentator/expert that I have seen during the 16-17 years I have been watching the sport. What I like mostly about him is that he is a man of integrity, says what he think no matter if it is politically correct or not (and of course he is like a F1 dictionary :) ). David Coulthard is also great. I referred to Eddie for a reason, so please do not tweak what I said!

I have seen three or four races on BBC and I have really enjoyed it, apart from Eddie throwing dirt at Alonso and Ferrari for no reason. To me it almost look like a personal thing going on…

          1. …And when recalling that Eddie is a good friend of Ron Dennis, I even more understand how personal it is.

            1. Fair enough $:)

    36. I mean, we were robbed of a good finale, but I still really enjoyed it for some reason… also, the end to this season could be an absolute epic now! 6/10

    37. Watching Red Button right now and I just cannot stop laughing…

      – Eddie Jordan says “Ferrari treated the fans as muppets”. That was coming out from the mouth of a man who did issue team orders himself on several occasions. Hilarious

      1. At his time it was legal, now it is not. Okay it is in the real world, but according to the rule book it is not legal. That is the difference.

        1. First of all, when he was mentioning it he was referring to the moral aspect of it. From the moral point of view he has done the exact same thing over and over again, i e hindering his drivers from fighting the battles on track and (as he describes it) robbing the fans. If it is robbery today, then it was robbering then. Legal or not does not matter when talking about moral.

Second, the ruling body has examined all evidence that is available, and that is certainly much more than you and me have access to. They have given a verdict. Accept it or move on to another sport. Thank you.

          1. No that is not the same. At that time it was legal and if the others are doing it you will loose ground if you don’t do the same. Also Ferrari tried to cover it with ridiculous stories about Massa going 3 gears up at the same time. They were lying to the fans like we were all as stupid as dirt and they were calling us hypocrites because we discussed it. When it was legal it was just a team order and everyone knew what they did and they didn’t try to cover it.

            1. I had promised myself not to reply to post disscussing this rediculous subject (No offence) anymore. But I will make just one more post :)

              1. what is your favorite team?
              2. has they used team orders since 2002?
              3. have you questioned that in the same intensity as this one?

Answer to (2) has to be YES if your favorite team is a competitive one since all teams will act in the best intrest of the team. If you answered (3) with a NO what does that make you (no offence)?

      2. He never lied to the fans. That is the difference.

Ferrari clearly lied to the stewards and the fans.

    38. It was a good race, not the best though. The last few laps were very tense as a Seb fan, and I love that he managed to finish 4th! It felt like a win. I think 6 out of 10 is fair when you compare it to other races so far this year.

    39. I vote 5. Very boring race without overtaking and no risky moves on the front lines (Anybody saw the GP3 race? The go full fight to victory). And, i dislike alonso (sinces Hockenheim 2010)…. the one thing is that im a Ferrari fun….. sad victory. Forza Felipe! Forza Ferrari! alonso, team orders is for loosers!

      1. Felipe certainly didn’t look too happy on the podium today.

        1. J Button puts on a happy face even when finishing behind his team mate.

I guess Massa is a fighter and finds it depressing when a new guy to the team destroys him race after race. That is actually how it should be and a healthy sign. It is when he is faster than his team mate that he should be happy, not before.

        2. Massa knows that even if he could beat Alonso, he is not allowed to. I’d be sad if that happened to me.

          1. If he was consistently faster than Alonso the team would of course make him first driver. You know and I know that he is not and probably will never be.

    40. PM,

I think we’re all getting bit sick of your constant bitching about Ferrari and their manipulation of the sport. If you’re truly unhappy at the way the sport is going, like you said, just stop watching and get on with it man.

I just wanted to get this in and I’m not gonna get drawn into a shouting match. So have a good life.

Thank you and good night/morning whenever the he’ll you’re from

      1. @Jay
I am afraid that will not happen. Some people does not know when to stop…Just look at Eddie Jordan. If they cannot win on the circuit they will try to miscredit the opposition on the Internet/Media.

Do like me, think about Monza 2010, smile and just ignore.

        1. “If they cannot win on the circuit they will try to miscredit the opposition on the Internet/Media.”

Who is this ‘they’ of which you speak.

The BBC are actually very impartial considering there are two British drivers in the title hunt. You should try watching some races from the ITV days.

I’m British. And I say, great drive today Fernando and well done Ferrari – especially the pit crew that didn’t bottle under pressure.

          1. “they” are those who jumped at the opportunity to miscredit F Alonso and Ferrari, for finishing 1-2, instead of 1-2. After that they continued to do so even though the judge has examined the evidence and announced a verdict.
Can you explain to me how Massa was “nice” to Alonso in turn 2, as Eddie suggested?

            1. “After that they continued to do so even though the judge has examined the evidence and announced a verdict.”

Maybe some people don’t agree with this ‘verdict’ and are entitled to their own opinions.

I don’t actually agree with everything Eddie Jordan says. Massa wasn’t ‘nice’ to Alonso at all, I agree with YOU. But that doesn’t mean that sometimes he does say things that do have value, and perhaps reflecting the majority fan opinion certainly on this site judging from the polls.

It was the arrogance that Ferrari showed in lying to all the media & fans that gets us going, not breaking the sporting code.

            2. @John,

              Fair enough :) & good n8!

        2. You know, you might have some point, but I am reading this a day later, and I thought to myself “yes indeed” when you said “Some people does not know when to stop” …

You are right that Eddie Jordan should not always be taken seriously – they have him there because he stirs things up, can be brilliant in asking the questions people don’t like to get, and talks back when Coulthard is a bit too much on the Red Bull side. I really doubt the majority of BBC viewers takes his word as gospel.

But please let it go – you seem to be an Alonso/Ferrari fan, and seem to look for evidence of a conspiracy against him.

Please, just accept that some don’t really have an absolute favorite team and driver, don’t like team orders, are for good racing and a good year of championship battling, and like to see an amazing drive to victory. Such as Alonso/Ferrari showed yeserday – it doesn’t make me feel they should win the WDC or WCC, but well done in Monza for them.

    41. 5 Interesting strategic battle but not a lot of action. Dumb move by Hamilton. Vettel did 52 laps on softs which makes a mockery of the two spec system. Can’t wait for the Pirreli’s.

      1. Agree, I think Bridgstone has damaged the fun of this season. Even though it has been an exciting season thus far, Bridgstone has neutralized one of the main reasons why the fuel ban was introduced in the first place, i e make the tires play a role in the races. Soft tyres lasting the whole distance in Monza and making fourth is a little scandal. Cowardly done Bridgestone!

        1. The mandatory stops rule (which isn’t really Bridgestone’s fault) hasn’t helped matters.

          1. It is sort of Bridgestone’s fault, they wanted it so people would have a reason to talk about tires.

I too, don’t understand why they did not just take super soft and hard tires here – the track is apparently very forgiving on the tires.

Gave it an 8. Was kinda interesting as I viewed it (fragmentally), was not fully processional, turns upside down the championship and finally a fair Alonso win for 2010!

    43. I gave it a 2. If Webber didn’t pull off those decent overtakes it would have been a 1. Maybe a 3 or a 4 if someone NOT driving a cheating red thing won ;)

    44. Amazing race. The script couldn’t have been better written @ Monza. Gigantic performance from Alonso both Sat and Sun. At a track every1 (including myself)expected Mclarens to dominate. Button very stong as expected, gr8 battle wheel to wheel between Alonso and Massa at the start (who says the Ferraris are not allowed to race eachother), military style precision pit stop to allow Alonso to leapfrog Button. Felt awfully sorry for Webber, how on earth did Hulk get away all afternoon with his driving and how did he not get penalised for cuttin the corners. Any1 know who the stewards were this weekend? Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles perhaps. Didn’t feel sorry for Hamilton, trying to mate with the rear of Massas car, not the first time he gets hot under the collar. Amazing job done by Vettel and his pit crew, can’t understand how the soft compound lasted in such good condition for the entire race almost. Just watched 4 hrs of programme and tyre degradation wasnt mentioned once by any1!!! These Bridgestone tyres don’t seem to shabby to me.

      1. Didn’t feel sorry for Hamilton, trying to mate with the rear of Massas car, not the first time he gets hot under the collar

Well, that is really the signature of Hamilton. He will always go 100% for it and put the opposition to the test; let me by or crash. If the opposition does not disappear from the way they WILL collid and that’s what happened today. Luckily Massa escaped this time.

        1. Hamilton and Alonso are quite similar in that respect.

Fernando could have had problems with that nose (similar to Hamilton with his suspension) after hitting Button, but he was lucky today – about time probably as he has been a little unlucky this year.

          1. I would rather compare Hamilton’s stile to M Schumachers actually. Alonso is quite sensible in comparison to those two IMO, when it comes to overtaking.

        2. Well, that is really the signature of Hamilton. He will always go 100% for it and put the opposition to the test; let me by or crash. If the opposition does not disappear from the way they WILL collid and that’s what happened today.

No, Hamilton is just a good overtaker. He was over-optimistic today, and therefore the collision was his fault. However over the last four years he has proven time and time again that if he’s on terms with the guy in front of him, he can line up a decent pass for position. And I’m a Ferrari fan admitting this.

          1. Though I do agree that he does have an aggressive driving style.

    45. I gave it a generous 9.
Alonso, Button, Massa, Vettel, Webber (under the circumstances), Rosberg all did a good job.
Quite a few overtaking manouvres, important strategic decisions and a couple of breakdowns. Not much spectacle in terms of crashes but I think thats down to the characteristics of the circuit. I totally agree with the fact that the Bridgestone has spoilt things by allowing the soft to last so long. Interesting point actually. Maybe it’s a good thing Pirelli are coming in after all..
By the way fans on the track at the finish was an amazing scenery! I wasn’t allowed to go on the track at Silverstone this year at all!!! :>(((
Infact from Copse E Terrace we couldn’t see any of the podium ceremony… so I’m thinking to save up and go Monza instead next year..I was reading it’s also cheaper than Silverstone which makes it better value for money.

    46. It wasn’t a great race, but we’ve been spoilt this season. You can’t expect every one to be a classic.

Well done Fernando and Ferrari. That was what an F1 team should be doing!

I’m not bothered that he didn’t pass him on the track because I’m sure every one of those tyre mechanics was under huge pressure and they delivered. They are the unsung heroes of this victory and will sleep well tonight I’m sure.

    47. I gave it a 5, for it was not a bad race, but not the most exciting either.

Good for Alonso taking a solid fight to Jensen, who also had a nice race. They both drove well and it was a fair fight for a change.

As for Red Bull, Vettel’s “engine problem” was probably more dubious that Ferrari’s “he is faster than you” remark. THAT was team orders once again, but Vettel managed to overcome them by staying on his tires for so long.

I predict that Weebs will not win the championship this year.

      1. “As for Red Bull, Vettel’s “engine problem” was probably more dubious that Ferrari’s “he is faster than you” remark.”

Vettel was the one complaining to Red Bull so was he giving himself team orders?

      2. As for Red Bull, Vettel’s “engine problem” was probably more dubious that Ferrari’s “he is faster than you” remark. THAT was team orders once again, but Vettel managed to overcome them by staying on his tires for so long.

That’s just preposterous. The team control his strategy, there’s no way Vettel would have the information to know it would be advantageous to stay out. Remember how poor his conception of what was going on in the race was at Montreal?

        1. It’s teamorders Keith. Plain and simple.
And that’s just fine. If people don’t want team orders, we would need to run single car teams.

          1. It’s teamorders Keith. Plain and simple.

I don’t see any reason to think it was and you haven’t said anything to convince me otherwise.

            1. Well, before a race starts, the drivers get instructed.
Vettel was probably instructed that when he was in front of Webber, he would claim an engine problem, and let Webber pass.
This way there are no instructions sent over the radio.
In theory it would help Webber. But you can’t predict the future.
In this case, Vettel still finished before Webber.
That’s how I see what happened.

          2. I’m not a RB fan, but I think there is no chance in hell Vettle would have agreed to let Webber pass.

          3. So you seriously think that a) after all we’ve seen from RedBull, now they’re issuing team orders in favour of Webber and b) Vettel would agree to such team orders? Not too likely.

        2. No Keith, pretty likely.

This situation is similar to that BMW faced at Montreal 2008. Kubica was allowed to pass heidfeld because he was on a different strategy.

Red Bull might have instructed Vettel to let Webber through because if not, Webber would have had a terrible race result today.

These could be team orders, but team orders to ensure both drivers get an equal chance not to favor one over other.

          1. How is it anything like that? Heidfeld and Kubica were on completely different strategies. Vettel might have been holding Webber up, but no more than Vettel was being held up by the car in front of him. And it still doesn’t explain why he was “allowed” to finish in front of Webber.

          2. Webber’s race was compromised by Hulkenberg if anything. His bad start didn’t do him any favours either.

            1. from Vettels pit team!

Vettel first reported what he felt to be an apparent loss of power when he got up to seventh gear coming out of Parabolica to start lap 20. He continued to suffer later round the lap, and was passed by team mate Mark Webber at Ascari.

The problem then cleared itself almost as quickly as it had appeared, and he did not have any more issues with the pedal for the remainder of the race. The telemetry told the team that there was slight brake pressure applied during that lap, despite Vettel having his foot off the pedal.

        3. Based upon what Will Buxton and the Speed TV crew had to say, especially in light of the fact that it allowed Mark to pass and then Seb began to set some of his fastest laps times, it looked extremely suspicious.

I would say that it most likely was team orders by Red Bull, and that in the end they did not get the result that they had hoped for.

          1. I would say that it most likely was team orders by Red Bull

So why did the same people you think sabotaged Vettel on lap 19 then gave him a strategy that got him ahead of his team mate and several others at the end of the race?

            1. Charles Carroll
              13th September 2010, 1:31

I believe that when it became apparent that ol’ Weebs was having too much trouble with young Nicole Hulkaburger, they decided to push Mr. Vittles to the end and see if they got lucky.

Ol’ Weebers thus managed to get by his arch nemesis without incident, for a change, but was unlucky with the Hulk later on.

I still see team orders all over this “sudden engine problem that miraculously corrected itself immediately after Weebs passed him and then went on to set fast lap times” bull-honkey.

              Yes, I did say “bull-honkey”.

Just because it did not work out as Mr. Hornblower had wanted does not mean it did not happen this way. What is good for Luca is surely good for the Horn, no?

              I happen to think so.

            2. what?

Surely the reason to let Webber by would be to maximise the number of points Webber could get. Then why would they put Vettel on a strategy which put him back in front of Webber? The most advantageous thing to do would be to leave Vettel behind, putting Webber up one more place.

Hoping Vettel would get lucky? Lucky how? The 3 leaders were way in front, he would never have had a hope of catching them, and he still would have been depriving Webber of points.

Putting Vettel on a strategy which put him back in front of Webber completely blows any ideas of team orders away, there is absolutely no advantage to what they did.

BBC said during the telecast that the Renault mechanics told Vettel to change engine settings which is what rectified the problem. It didn’t just miraciously disappear.

And you’re also missing the fact that there is no pit-to-car telemetry, only car-to-pit. The days of mechanics in the pits being able to alter car settings is long gone, its been outlawed for many years and I’m poisitive are checked fairly rigorously by the scrutineers.

            3. I find red bull telling vettel what to do in the sense of “team orders” laughable.

Sorry, but Red Bull are not in a posistion to be telling vettel what to do. Sebastian is the key to getting a mercedes engine under that car, since Mercedes love giving german drivers their engine.

Vettel’s holding the rope to his own neck and Red Bull’s future. One small whiff of team orders against him and that kid will jump ship to Mercedes quicker then a HRT looking for a “faster” car…

I repeat again, vettel? number 2 driver? team orders? don’t make me laugh…

            4. @F1silverarrows,

You are probably right and Vettel probably knows that as well. That explains how he manages to remain that confident and outspoken in spite of making enough misstakes to earn the title “The Crash Kid”. Any other driver would try to be more humble and learn from past experiences.

What would be even more laughable though, is RB managing shoot themselfs in (what is left of) their feets one more time. Would anyone feel sorry for them if they lost the championship then? I would not. Poor Webber…

    48. Agree with Quattro. Eddie always trying to discredit the sport…. I laughed like crazy when he implied Vettels engine problems were a ploy to let Webber through……proven wrong yet again when Vettel got rid of his problem and set fastest times galore finishing 4th..infront of his team mate! Do us a favour Eddie

      1. To be fair, Eddie Jordan himself didn’t take that very seriously, and said that it was quite unlikely right after.

    49. I’m delighted that Ferrari won. But looking at the quality of the race, I give it a 7/10. It was great to see the top three so close, however the way Hamilton retired on lap 1 denied us a 4 way battle like at Istanbul. Good entertainment provided by Mark Webber, making a few nice passes (after yet another bad start), and close racing in the top 10.

    50. Hi Keith Collantine…was wondering if you knew at all who were the stewards this weekend, and if their surnames started with the letter H and finished with the letter G

    51. Fantastic race! It kept me without breath for all the 53 laps! The duel which never stopped between Alonso and Button and Alonso’s mistake and the dream come true of a Ferrari winning at Monza!

    52. We would have seen much more overtaking (or attempts at) without the mandatory tyrechange. Alonso wouldn’t have been waiting for the pitstop, but would have needed to attack like a man. On track.

      1. As I see it, the problem is not the single “mandatory tyrechange”. It is rather the lack of pitstops. Bridgestone are being chickens and produce tyres that will potentially survive a hole race or two (even with the soft compound!).

Imagine if the tires were (as should) designed to only make say 30% or 35% of a race distance. That would add a whole new dimension to the races (remember Canada?). Unfortunatly Bridgestone are being cowards and does not want to take risks that will potentially damage their image in case accidents would happen (tyres exploding…). FIA is not reacting either which is a big shame.

        1. You do have a point there, I still think that getting rid of the mandatory pit stop would work as well, but with it, we do really need “option” tires that are a lot less enduring. Bridgestone should have brought the super softs.

But it seems that they need to start preparing those tires months in advance already and maybe that means that they had to be conservative? Still a it silly that Vettel could have gone without a pit stop if it had been allowed, although the stop itself did give some entertainment in the last lap :)

    53. Gave it a 2… Meh.. I feel asleep with 10 laps to go, reasonably sure I knew how it was going to end. Sure enough, I was right.

      1. Not a high proportion of races change significantly in the final 10 laps.

    54. 7/10. A bit like Malaysia this race. A decent amount of overtaking, but not too many pulse raising moments.

    55. Good Race but I Sometimes think that Aerodynamics have Superseded Raw Speed of F1 cars Which means everybody makes great cars for other circuits which needs better Aero.

This eventually results in the fact that the F1 cars of today are not bringing out the true Potential of the fastest F1 circuit “Autodrome Nationale Monza”. It is a little sad stuff but I would’nt complain much.

I would love to see the F1 cars Flexing their Macho Speed muscles at Monza in the future rather than being aero beauties !!!

Remember those early 2000s when Williams BMW showed off the Raw power wow :)

    56. It was an interesting race; the battle between Messrs Alonso and Button proving to be quite riveting. Lewis Hamilton was the victim of his own misjudgment; I must admit I felt a bit bad for him. I was looking forward to seeing him race.

Nick Hulkenberg was quite unsportsmanslike. (Even if the description of his behavior seems to follow Germanic grammar! :-) ) He should have been penalized. Mark Webber’s pass was both well-deserved, and well-earned.

Other than that, I still think the cars are ugly and the FIA is taking homogeneity lessons from NASCAR.

    57. I voted 7, it was one of those race where you just wait for the leader to change position. Not much racing but some good driving by Alonso to keep the pressure up to Button & some good moves by Webber, who to me was the driver of the day. Also a nice drive by Roseberg.

    58. Just finished watching my recording, and it’s a 6 for me. Ironically even though we had a battle for the lead mos of the rest of the race was dull, and it would have been a 5 otherwise.

Was tempted to vote 1 to counteract a lot of suspicious 10s but I thought better ;)

    59. One of the most boring races I’ve ever seen…..in any form of racing. I actually fell asleep watching this race. A new low of F1.

Monza has all this history and everything, I get that…..But maybe the sport has outgrown this type of track. Maybe it’s time to move on

      1. I doubt Monza will ever be removed from the calender not just for it’s history but there are some tracks where the teams & drivers love to come & for sure this is one of them.
