For your consideration

Here are some of the drivers who impressed me during the Italian Grand Prix weekend:

Fernando Alonso – Great lap to clinch pole position in a tight session. Lost the lead at the start but kept the pressure on Button and took it back after a quick pit stop.

Jenson Button – Opting to run a set-up which left him 14kph slower than Alonso on the straights was a risky choice. But he came impressively close to pulling it off after a great start and unblinking performance under pressure.

Sebastian Vettel – His race looked to be over on lap 19 but nursing his soft tyres for 51 laps allowed him to vault back into fourth place.

Mark Webber – Out-qualified Vettel despite losing time in two practice sessions with car problems. Lost ground at the start but made passes on Michael Schumacher, Robert Kubica and Nico H?â??lkenberg to take sixth.

Nico H?â??lkenberg – Looked faster than Rubens Barrichello all weekend. Out-qualified his team mate and beat him home. Only blot was a few mistakes at the chicanes precipitated by a dodgy brake pedal – Webber might have thought he deserved a penalty but race control didn’t agree.

  1. Poll’s not there for me, it just says ‘Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment’ I would have voted Alonso though.

    1. Poll is invisible, can’t vote. Alsonso has to get my vote (if I could). He was on fire this weekend. He put his head down and just performed. Pole and race winner, no tricks. Job done.

    2. Ditto. I would be voting for Alonso as well, once I get the option to.

      1. Wow, is this a anti-Alonso by the site? It seems all of you who wanted to vote for Alonso had problems voting.
Great mind reading SW used then ;-0

    3. Luckily, I voted before reading the comments. But i wanted to have anther look at the results, but they are gone!

    4. Apologies, slight glitch with the cache which made the poll disappear briefly. You should see it’s back now, if not hit Ctrl-F5 to refresh the page.

Just to be clear, the poll was not visible to all users regardless of voting intention during this time.

      1. I know, just joking after some of the heaten comments of last week.

        Thanks for fixing it.

      2. Thanks, works fine now. But I changed my vote to Button ;)

  2. Definetly Vettel for me. Getting from 8th to 4th right out of the blue considering technical problems? Just wow.

  3. Alonso was the best this weekend, but Liked also Vettel´s and Hulkenberg´s race.

I went for Buemi. He put that STR car where it didn’t belong, battling for the last point (and finishing 1sec adrift); somehow I am sure if he had gotten it, he would have been voted more.

  5. No one mentioned here the little battle between Alonso and Massa during the first two corners. Someone could even believe they were actually racing each other.

    1. You could tell Massa was really really trying hard to get into the second chicane first, as I am sure after Hockenheim he would have been allowed to hold the position, or have to take responsibility for letting Alonso through. I voted Alonso, Button was good, but Alonso was Pole Sitter, Fastest Lap and GP Winner

  6. Close to a tie between Button and Alonso for me, I had difficulty deciding – while both deserve it, I gave it to Alonso this time, he almost didn’t put a foot wrong during the weekend (maybe that 1st corner hit into back of Button, oh well). Button made a very interesting and bold strategy work very well, but in the end it wasn’t good enough.

  7. Webber’s overtakes merit a vote, that and his understanding that there’s a time to play safe and a time to be aggressive.
But Alonso had a perfect weekend and also showed his maturity knowing when to push and when to hold back, so he gets my vote.

  8. I say Alonso but i was tied between him and Button

I was never going to vote for Liuzzi but i think he had a really good race if Liuzzi could qualify in the top 10 i think he could do really well

    1. You’ve finally commented!
