They chose to have the day off, and will continue on Friday and Saturday.

All teams can test on four of the five days maximum. Mclaren are testing on the frist two and last 2 days. Probably so they can work on the car, Upgrade package maybe ??

Or give themselves time to evaluate the problems of the first two days, and try to make sure they don’t happen on the last two – that would be a smart choice, given their lack of on-track time so far.

Indeed, probably load the data into the sim and work on better setups back at Woking.

Its definatly the clever thing to do, I am surprised more teams haven’t ran with this option as 1 whole day to anayalise data and adjust the car is a long time in F1. Hope this will help to push them forward but i dont think we will see their true pace untill the end of the month at melbourne. I hope they are calling bluff but then i think Red Bull and ferrari may well be doing the same!

Getting all excited for Melbourne :D I hope after testing there are some real worrying comments from various drivers. Not thaf I wish bad luck on on anyone but it’s just great drama.

let’s hope so… it would be a good thing to close the gap even a little bit before the first race. Thanks for the info!

Keith, There is an error in the topic name, it says 2010 F1 testing day 14 live: Barcelona. :)

Oops, that’s a bad one – thanks, have changed it!

Also, it still says “bear with us” rather than “bare with us”.
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
10th March 2011, 10:20
That’s because “bear with us” is the correct spelling. I’d very much like you all to keep your clothes on.

I did just have someone suggest i get a “women in bikinis” avatar, maybe hooking into that thought.
Still I do not object to anyone sitting at home in the bare, just don’t really feel we have to know and join in!

Let’s wait for all the teams to perform actual qualifying runs and push their cars really to the limit. After those last year, we had 7 teams within half a second of each other. Really hope we’ll see something similar this year, but I get the impression that the differences will be bigger.

10th March 2011, 9:52
Reviewing the times compared to last year, the top cars are 1.5 seconds slower than last year. This is to be expected because of the reduction in DF but what is interesting is that while the new teams are still the slowest, they are only 0.5 seconds slower than their times last year. So relative to the top teams, lotus and virgin are a 1 second closer. It remains to be seen if HRT will have improved this much

Keith
do you know which teams have run quali sims as yet.
As in I read yesterday that Seb went out and posted a quick time as a benchmark yesterday morning, to measure the rest of the day on longer runs against.
Mercedes said they didnt yesterday, but did McLaren and Ferrari? As in, are their fastest times (+1 and +1.3 on same pace). I’d have to assume so.

Is there any word on the Mercedes upgrade package? I thought it was meant to be introduced at the final test. Surely they should have it now, otherwise that’s a major problem for them.

Yeah, they’ve put new sidepods on today with a red bull type coke bottle area. Very nice looking. They’ve got more gizmos coming tomorrow and saturday including the new wings and various other bits.

Perez takes the Sauber round in 1m 21.7 which beats Vettels benchmark from yesterday I believe. Either Red Bull can get into the 1m 20s or Sauber are running underweight. Discuss.
Rob Wilson
10th March 2011, 14:13
Perez has done a rocket of a lap! Must have been brand new tires, barely any fuel and he must have used the KERS & Moveable rear wing functions to the max AND been on the absolute limit.

Or else the car is genuinely fast (still a possibility)

10th March 2011, 14:26
I see a lot of Vettel and Red Bull as fastest driver and car through out the 2011 testing. It’s very much indicative of what the season will be for me. But I really hope I’m wrong. Who wants the championship in the bag in mid-season?
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
10th March 2011, 14:27
I don’t think Ferrari are far behind.

I wish I could say the same thing for Mclaren, and the other teams. The 2011 testing has become anticlimactic coming from a great season. But I guess I’ll never know until Melbourne…

I’d love to be wrong but I can’t see that Sauber have managed to coax red bull pace from their latest effort unless James Key has managed to be the first chap to coax the full potential from Hinwil’s amazing wind tunnel.
The signs are that the team has built it’s best car for a couple of years though which is exciting. Unlike their livery ;-(
I think we’ll see the Red Bull well into the 1m 20s before the test is over and if not it’ll only be matter of waiting for the race at Barcelona to see it happen.
VXR
10th March 2011, 16:15
Maybe ‘Albert II’ is doing its stuff now? And they do have a very good wind tunnel!
Note: Anyone testing on Saturday is going to need waterproofs and something else to do while there isn’t a lot happening.
Could be a good opportunity for some to try out Pirelli’s wet tyres.
