Timo Glock, Virgin, Silverstone, 2011

With Lotus hitting trouble, Virgin had a chance to capitalise in the British Grand Prix.

But ultimately they needed a few more retirements to improve their championship position.

Ahead of the next race Virgin will perform an aero test at RAF Cottesmore in Rutland.

Timo Glock

Glock took advantage of the mixed conditions to out-qualify Jarno Trulli, taking 20th on the grid.

He stayed in front of Trulli at the start and the Lotus driver wasn’t able to pass him before retiring.

The team ran Glock on a two-stop strategy, to reduce the amount of time lost to blue flags, and he brought the car home in 16th.

Jerome d’Ambrosio

Lost a place to Vitantonio Liuzzi at the start but passed the HRT driver on lap 18.

Towards the end of the race he struggled with wear on his front-left tyre, but stayed ahead of Liuzzi despite several laps of pressure.

    1. Reading that line about the test, at first I saw its going to be in Rusland!

Glock still brings the best out of the car on Saturday, shame they still have a lot of work to do to get it anywhere near the rest of the field up front.

    2. D’Ambrosio was being rapidly catched by Liuzzi in the end. A shame that we don’t get to see the battles of the last cars, because at the start they had mixed up and it was nice to see the gaps between the HRTs and the Virgins. Then as the race went on I lost track of the positions as they were never seen on screen.

      1. Yea it is difficult to keep up with them. They kinda get lost between HRT and Lotus.

    3. Hopefully next year their fortunes will improve with the McLaren technical deal :)

      1. Well that their only hope about now. This year is pretty much nothing more but a pain waiting to go away.
They should probably start testing staff for next year’s car. Hell some may even to good to this year car too.
