No-one predicted Pastor Maldonado’s maiden victory in the latest round of the Predictions’ Championship.

Rivasgui and Doodie111 were the only ones to correctly name the Williams driver as the pole sitter for the race. Lewis Hamilton’s penalty was bad news for the 266 people who picked him for pole position.

Gabal came out on top in the latest round of the championship, scoring 19 points by correctly placing Fernando Alonso, Romain Grosjean and Kamui Kobayashi in second, fourth and fifth.

Vjohann73 claimed the second-place prize by getting closer to the pole position time than Barkun. Gabal wins an Autocourse 1972 eBook, Vjohann73 gets a Grand Prix Heroes DVD from Duke Video and Barkun claims an F1 poster from PJ Tierney. Congratulations to all!

Gabal moves up to joint 15th place in the championship standings but Chrissylyn remains on top with 62 points, followed by ButtonUp09 on 60 and Bisutommy79 on 59.

Here are the top ten predictions for the last race:

  1. Yay! Got a point for putting Kimi in the top 5 :P

    1. @Enigma I got twice as much for picking Fernando & Kimi! :)

This is my worst score ever but I’m ready to perform even worse next time if I get to see another crazy race.

      1. @girts – I think a lot of people are going to have low scores after this round. After all, only two people predicted Maldonado would take pole, and it looks like no-one predicted that he would win the race.

        1. @prisoner-monkeys : Depends on your definition of low score but looking to the top scorer it seems everyone but one get low score (low score being under 10 for me) … I think the only 3 predictable were the 2 lotus and Alonso eventually, not even sure maldonado and Kob appear on any picks ^^

      2. @girts McLaren’s mishaps (and lack of race pace) are ruining my predictions. After skipping Bahrain and so many missed shots, grabbing the big prize is getting out of reach for me.

        1. Dont make me quote Fernando…

    2. Ha, same for me @enigma! Shame I did not keep Alonso in my top 5 or it could have doubled my score this round.

      1. @bascb Yeah, that would have been crucial in your title bid! :)

        1. But the season is still long, so there’s all the chance to win it!

  2. @keithcollantine, I thought I put Grosjean in my top 5, so I should have 1 point (right?), but I scored 0. Not a massive difference, but I just wondered if something was wrong.

  3. Is this the lowest scoring round ever? :-D

    1. @damonsmedley I think it’s second behind Bahrain 2012 :P

      1. Lol well i got 0 anyway!

  4. I was away for the Bahrain weekend so thought I would miss out but it appears everyone got 0. Was the predictions championship not run as a demonstration or something?

    1. exactly, Keith didn’t want to hand out any prizes so the round was annulled. Got me surprised as well, when I found out. Good move.

  5. No-one seems to have any points for the Bahrain Predictions…did something happened, Keith? Sorry if I missed something…

    1. @FanatikosF1 See here: https://www.racefans.net/2012/04/20/predictions-championship-cancelled-bahrain/

Maybe the Bahrain column should be removed, it’s a bit confusing at the moment.

      1. Well, this way it does a good job of remembering us what nonsense it was to run a race in Bahrain @girts

        1. @BasCB While I fully respect and understand Keith’s decision to cancel that round, I also believe that we should move on. We have been discussing this long enough, almost everyone has formed an opinion on whether the race had to happen or not. For sure, we can and should continue to discuss this issue in the forum and at the related artices but the predictions championship is, in my opinion, not the right place for such reminders.

          1. Not the place for discussions @girts, but I guess its right that those 0s stand as a silent reminder in this years predictions championship.

  6. Absolutely horrendous predictions :D

I got Raikkonen in the top 5 so I scraped a measly point.

I might pick all my selections out of a hat next time.

  7. First time I scored 0 points. It’s a complete disaster : I’ve never had 0 before…

  8. It seems that my 1 point is fairly competitive! Good luck to everyone with their Monaco predictions… lol

  9. Lin1876 – nil point. I missed Malaysia, but this is a disaster. Still, I’ll take more no-scores if it means we get more races like that.

Still mildly humourous how people who usually do well got very low scores. I’m at least hopeless so it’s not such a disaster for me.

    1. I wonder what odds you would have got betting on that top 5. 1500/1 perhaps?

  10. This season is so difficult to predict? Its also giving me a nightmare in my f1 fantasy league team! Might as well go for a HRT driver win in Monaco!!!!!!!!!. Well maybe not!
    Good fun though.
    Nige.

  11. Congrats to @Barkun :)

If you could contact me here abouf which in stock A3 poster you want I’ll send it out when I get the chance: http://shop.pjtierney.net/contact

    1. @pjtierney

received poster today :) its very nice
will be framed in the coming days !!

      once again, thanks !!

  12. Yay! I’m in the top ten for this round, thank you Raikkonen and Grosjean.

  13. 11 points total, still everything to play for! I missed Australia and got 7 in China and 4 in Spain. Was there extra points available in Australia, because I noticed some people got very high points – or was that just fanatstic guessing?

  14. Lol – skipped this round due to unfortunate personal circumstances but I might definitely have scored zero if I’d participated!

  15. Told you I’d tank…

  16. Like Nico Rosberg I am going to say “just 20 points off the leaders, I still have chances to win this year!!!”

    1. must agree with You, Rajamaniarun,.. its only have been 4 races that counted so far. Still a loooong season ahead , for now we all must congratulate to chrissylyn for keeping very strong position since australia gp .
,…but a lot can change before end of the season – I hope ,. ..

      1. remember ,., If You’re lucky – maximum points for one race is 42,.. so I think ,…thats a lot to change the table around ,..

  17. Wow! I completely forgot about what I predicted – I haven’t put much thought into the entry and completely forgot about it during the race. :)

  18. I feel like I scored well with 4 points …

  19. I’m actually feeling quite proud of my single point, not that I know what I got it for!

  20. I literally went to the drop down menu & just clicked the first name under my cursor

  21. I scored a whopping 4 points, and actually went up in the rankings!
