The incredibly close 2012 championship continues to make life difficult in the Predictions Championship.
Nine players tied with a highest score of just 11 points in the European Grand Prix.
This meant the pole position time tie-breaker had to be used to decide the winners and the margins were very fine indeed. Overall winner HoolyF1 was just five-thousandths of a second off predicting Sebastian Vettel’s pole position time correctly – only one other player (Staryeyed85) got closer.
Abreeden took second (0.084s off) and Aleanza third (0.102s away). Commiserations to the other six, particularly CarinaF1, who was only 0.162s off winning a prize.
HoolyF1 is our first winner of a 1973 Autocourse eBook. Abreeden and Alelanza win a Grand Prix Heroes video from Duke Video and an F1 poster from PJ Tierney respectively.
Bigginf1, Mirceapert, MZS16, Lidia53 and Zopyrion also tied for the top score.
The result gives Chrissylyn a three-point lead at the top of the standings over ButtonUp09 and Carpy3. But with the championship leader only on 75 points and a maximum of 600 still to be won, even players who haven’t joined in yet can get in the hunt for overall honours.
It seems most players took not of Vettel’s scorching fast sector times on his in-lap at the end of final practice and correctly picked him for pole – over 70% did so.
But Fernando Alonso was only the fifth-highest pick for victory, chosen by 7.2% of players. Vettel was favoured to win a third consecutive race at Valencia by 45.3%.

Runner-up prize: Autocourse calendars
The five players with the next highest scores (positions eight to 12) will each win a 2013 Autocourse calendar.
The Autocourse Grand Prix calendar contains images taken during the season of all the major players competing in the Formula One World Championship.
The images are high resolution and taken by one of the world’s leading Grand Prix photographers, the calendar is printed on art quality paper and comes with a stiffened backing board and shrink wrapped for protection.

The highest scorer in each race will win an Autocourse eBook. The 1971 edition will be the first prize up for grabs, and later players will have the chance to win 1972 to 1976 editions.

My prediction for Vettel on pole was spot on, but that’s all I really got right. I went for Raikkonen, Vettel, Grosjean, Webber, Di Resta. So actually, not a bad prediction, and I can’t believe I got Webber right, as I thought that would not be possible after quali xD, and unfortunately I put the wrong Force India in 5th place :P. When I made the prediction, I was also considering having Raikkonen second, which would have given me more points too -_- – Ahh well, ifs, buts and maybes.
At least I gained about 100 odd places :P

Seeing the practice results, HUL was always gonna be faster in Valencia. Wonder how u got tht wrong….But an increase of 100 spots is awesome man!

@Malleshmagdum – Well, considering that the race was going to be hotter, and Di Resta has been a little more consistent in race performances, combined with the fact that Di Resta did well in Bahrain gave me the push to put him in that spot.
But yeah, I’m happy the 100 spot increase, I just need another 251 places to move up ;)

When you look at the championship standings, 7 points actually is a very good result! We haven’t seen scores go over 20 since China this year!

For about one lap I had the perfect prediction & then it all fell apart. Usually when that happens there is much shouting at the telly, but this time around the race was so good I just didn’t even care that my predictions went to heck in a handbasket. Still, 7 points not so bad, and I have vaulted from 258th place to 98th.

@keithcollantine Try to get Alonso predicting in the pool “I am happy if I make 50 points in the next three races” he declared just before Monaco FP1….. He made 15+10+25=50.

Wow, ok that this season is far from normal, but still I can’t believe I’m actually tied for top spot with these lousy 11 pts… and beware, next time I’ll come up with an even more sophisticated pole time prediction method! :)
