Actually, I’d like to change my answer to this one:

      8. Will Felipe Massa get a contract extension at Ferrari for 2014?
      No.

      8. Will Felipe Massa get a contract extension at Ferrari for 2014?
Yes, but it will mostly be for show – Ferrari will make an offer to let Massa keep his dignity intact, which he will decline because it won’t be a very good offer, though publicly he will maintain that it is time for his career to come to an end.

      • andae23 (@andae23) said on 8th March 2013, 9:56

        clever

      • WilliamB (@william-brierty) said on 8th March 2013, 11:52

I shall dub thee Professor Prisoner Monkeys, the chief authority on Ferrari Psychology.

      • JerseyF1 (@jerseyf1) said on 8th March 2013, 17:08

It would have to be a pretty bad offer for Massa to turn it down in favour of retirement, given the amount of money it costs to buy a seat further back on the grid.

However, if the scenario is that Ferrari tell Massa that they are not renewing his contract but offer to pretend they have offered an extension which he has declined in favour of retirement then that seems a bit more plausible. It’s a bit like how Schumacher claims to have had the final say as to whether he stayed at Mercedes and Jules Bianchi talked about how he had evaluated his options before deciding to driver for Marussia as if he had a load of other offers on the table.

        • Troy Longstaff (@troylongstaff) said on 8th March 2013, 21:57

@jerseyf1 Even if Ferrari don’t re-sign Massa, there is the possibility of him returning to Sauber in 2014. Sauber could do with an experienced driver to groom Gutierrez and Frijns and it would keep Sauber’s link with Ferrari for engines. Ferrari gets Hulkenberg, Sauber gets Massa, could be a straight swap imho.
Difficult to know what Bianchi’s Marussia ride means for his future, could still end up at Force India next year if they get sick of di Resta’s mediocre results amongst his distinct personality bypass, in which case I wouldn’t blame them!

          • JerseyF1 (@jerseyf1) said on 8th March 2013, 22:33

@troylongstaff I think a Massa move to Sauber would make a lot of sense, Massa could well perform better released from the environment created by Alonso at Ferrari and so Sauber would get a driver who is potentially better than Hulkenberg if he returns to form.

Another plus point is the anticipated shake-up of the grid for 2014. If it all shakes out with Ferrari as the leading team the best Massa can expect is 2nd in the WDC and he’s already had one of those. The odds might be slimmer at Sauber but if they happen to strike it luck under the first year of the new regs then a frontrunning Sauber could actually give him a shot at the WDC (particularly as Ferrari’s current weakness is Sauber’s strength with their quality windtunnel and they would likely have the same engine in the back).

      • BasCB (@bascb) said on 12th March 2013, 15:06

I would say that you are right that they might offer him a contract extension to drive for Ferrari, but the car he will be driving will be a GT car.

Well the last thing you lose is hope ;)

        • lubhz (@lubhz) said on 8th March 2013, 15:29

@oel-f1 that’s my wish too, but since it’s not very likely to happen, I’m happy if he wins once or twice.

          • OEL F1 (@oel-f1) said on 8th March 2013, 16:37

I don’t think it’s that unlikely actually. Of course he hasn’t been on it for the last 3 years but if his rise in form in the end of last season is a true indication that he is back, I think he will be fighting for it. Obviously there will always be those who doubt him (even when he was giving Räikkönen a hard time people said he was no good), and those who think Ferrari won’t let him fight Alonso. Well I think that, if Felipe can prove to be on par with Alonso from the start of the season, Ferrari won’t favour Alonso, they will let them fight like they let Räikkönen and Massa fight. If the rumor is true that Ferrari developed their car to suit Massa better in the end of last year and that that was the reason Alonso was unable to match Massa in the last 2 races, then clearly Ferrari don’t want him to be slower than Alonso.

Anyway only time will tell. And don’t panic if (or when) Alonso beats Massa with some margin in Australia, that has always been a track where Massa has been struggling.

          • Klaas (@klaas) said on 8th March 2013, 16:54

If the rumor is true that Ferrari developed their car to suit Massa better in the end of last year

Were did you get that rumour from? Why on earth would Ferrari make the car suit Massa better when Alonso was the one fighting for the title and there was almost 0 chance of catching RedBull in the WCC?
I think it has nothing to do with the car better suiting Massa but rather Felipe always being strong at anticlock-wise circuits – Interlagos, Istanbul and COTA.

Some very interesting proposals there, particularly Kimi’s retirement and Adrian Sutil being replaced by Razia! I’ve went out on a limb and predicted Bernie will step down (or die as it is otherwise known), although I’d like to hope that doesn’t happen. It’d have pretty big political implications though.

Chinese Grand Prix! Hmm.. I saw the 2012 review and realized that out of all the Tilkedromes that produced exciting races, China was the only one that did so without a safety car. I think I will agree to that.

Maldonado for most penalties. Nope! It will be Sergio Perez :)
