Noticed not many have put in a pole time that is representative of the fact it will rain all day and start hailing just before quali according to the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2158177

    1. I made mine a 1:29.4 or something. I think it’ll dry up by the end of Q3 but still be a bit off the pace of dry times. I’ve put Vettel down for pole, but I think if it’s going to be wet someone can make a surprise and steal it from him.

      1. i put down a 1:29.456 hehehe

the forcast i saw had a 10% chance of rain on saturday and non on any other day

          1. Dammit, I put a 1:28.3, thinking it may rain, but that sounds like it’d still be too quick! Damp then haah

          2. @stowe07 Remember you can edit your prediction up to the deadline if necessary.

    2. I’m praying for dry track LOL. I made a guess based on this year’s FP2’s times and last year’s FP3 and qualy’s. Almost 1:25 ;-)

  2. Got to play it safe and go with a dry time.

  3. Interesting to be able to view the other predictions, though it can lead to strategic behaviour, especially later in the season, where the leader in the championship might be able to choose a prediction that covers his nearest rivals.

Anyway, like most I went with Vettel for pole and the win. He was comfortably faster than anyone else, and his tyres weren’t even new when he set the time. Degradation in the race could be a different story, but I think if Vettel can lead after the first corner, he has a very good chance of staying there:

    1. VET, 2. HAM, 3. RAI, 4. WEB, 5. ALO

    1. I think qualifying is going to be about 10 seconds slower in the wet…… in the 1′ 35s
      1. Vettel………..from pole.
      2. Alonso
      3. Webber
      4. Raikkonen
      5. Hamilton

      1. Exactly the same her, spookie.

      2. I had the same, but Hamilton 3rd and WEB RAI moved down a place. I just think Webber’s too unlucky to make it onto the podium at home.

      3. I can see Vettel running away with it from pole and Webber being swamped in a multi-car battle with the Ferraris and Lewis, hotly pursued by Kimi but after that apart from Vettel winning the crystal ball fogs up, can’t even see LH at the finish line.

  4. Grosjean for the win! I’m taking an “aggressive” approach to this season.

    1. Good luck with the approach, I tried it last year and just ended up getting frustrated. Just make sure you have nothing valuable/fragile close at hand by the time they get to the first corner.

      1. Go Luca Montezemolo style, just break the tv set.

    2. Hopefully it works for you better than it has McLaren ;)

      1. LOL LOL LOL

  5. I can’t focus at work I’m so excited about tomorrow. I’m a shameless (glory supporting?) Hamilton fan boy, so it’ll be hero or zero stuff Sunday morning

I think Hamilton will be top 3 at some stage in the race but I don’t think his car will last the race.

It would be typical F1 for something that we’ve all waited for to see Hamilton in a Mercedes, qualify well and then get taken out during the first few laps.

    2. I don’t think you need to call yourself a glory supporter for supporting Lewis. He’s not finished higher than 4th in the standings since 2008; which is a massive shame! Given that he boldly left McLaren too, to a team that scored very few points in the second half of last season, I think it’s safe to say you are not ‘glory supporting’.

Based on this morning, Lewis was right to leave as well! :)

      1. But Lewis has been GLORIOUS…

  6. anyone knows about F1 technical analysis web address! thank you !

Scarbs F1 used to be the best but due to his magazine commitments, he only updates his blog ocasionally so he’s dropped off my favourites list. When he does update, it’s very technical and well written however.

Personally I haven’t found anything that comes close to what his site once was – I only use this site now for F1. If there’s a really good technical piece written, it’s usually linked from here in the roundup posts anyway.

  7. I went with a ‘safe’ approach for qualifying, with Vettel on pole with a dry lap time, somewhat a little quicker than what we saw today.
What I think we’ll see on Sunday, however, is just based on what I’ve heard. Lotus seem to have good tyre wear, which should serve them well, even if they don’t qualify all that well. Alonso…well, you can just never rule him out, and I think he’ll be there or thereabouts. Webber will have a decent car, but due to not starting on pole, might be a little compromised, and then there’s Massa, who genuinely looks quite good. So…

    1. Vettel
    2. Raikkonen
    3. Alonso
    4. Webber
    5. Massa

It’s tempting to put Hamilton or Grosjean in there, but it’s a long race, and they may not even survive it. McLaren’s race pace didn’t look quite as bad either, but unless they look better in FP3, then I’ll leave them out to be on the safe side for now.

  8. Pole: Vettel

    1st – Alonso
    2nd – Hamilton
    3rd – Vettel
    4th – Raikkonen
    5th – Webber

  9. The Red Bull looks depressingly fast. Can’t really choose anyone for Pole but Vettel. Alonso could maybe do it if he is lucky/the car has as much pace as it looks like it might.

It’s so hard to sit and wait for qually and the race. Thank God Malaysia is next weekend too! Double fixture right off the bat, allowing us to bask in F1 awesomeness after a long winter! :D

  10. Pole: Alonso, 01:37.222
    1. Vettel
    2. Raikkonen
    3. Alonso
    4. Massa
    5. Sutil

  11. Any chance we can see the previous prediction championship results as would love to see how I did since I entered in 2011 compared to 2012 and likewise with this year. I tried googling but it just came up with 2013’s when i clicked the standings link.

  12. Pole: Vettel, 01:23.343
    1. Vettel
    2. Raikkonen
    3. Alonso
    4. Webber
    5. Hamilton

  13. If this means I start playing computer games after a ten year break, I’ll blame F1 Fanatic for that.

Now, where are my tea leaves?

  14. Merde! I didn’t see it was going to rain! Oh well it’s just for fun anyway!

    1. @vivlapluscool You can change your prediction up to the deadline, you know.

      1. Thanks for the info! Maybe i will, because i don’t know why i left out Hamilton?? Maybe it’s the excitement of the new season, which start at 2 in the morning for me here in Montreal and i’ll be up to watch it live!

  15. Pole = VET

    1. VET
    2nd/3rd. Ferraris
    4th. HAM
    5th. GRO.

Predicting a problem with Raikkonen’s and Webber’s cars, somehow.

  16. POLE:Vettel, 1:30.311
    P1: Vettel
    P2: Grosjean
    P3: Webber
    P4: Massa
    P5: Alonso

  17. Doug (@forgotmyumbrella)
    15th March 2013, 18:53

    1. Vettel
    2. Hamilton
    3. Webber
    4. Alonso
    5. Rosberg

Do I get bonus points for predicting at least one McLaren to be lapped?

  18. i will wait till the start of qualification and also make notice of the times in fp3 but for now:

    Pole Vettel : 1 : 24. 478

    1. Alonso
    2. Raikkonen
    3. Vettel
    4. Massa
    5. Rosberg

The race will be a close battle between Alonso, Raikkonen and Vettel. Raikkonen will be the fastest in race day, but Ferrari will cover in the pit and a good straight speed to make it difficult for him to overtake.

  19. Massa on the Podium for sure, make or break season!

  20. wow a lot of people have Hamilton in top 5…. I don’t think either Merc will make the end of the race,

  21. I did pretty badly in the predictions overall last year coming coming a few hundred places from top. Despite that, much to my delight I won the Monaco round and received a “1972 Autocourse eBook” from Keith. So even if your predictions are little more than a guess, give it a go, you might end up a winner!

  22. well i just entered my first ever predictions, i predict i will lose :)

  23. Chance of any rain: 80%
Rainfall amount: 6 to 15 mm

    Melbourne area
Cloudy. Isolated showers developing during the morning, becoming widespread during the afternoon. Light winds becoming northwest to southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then becoming southwesterly 25 to 35 km/h in the middle of the day.

    Fire Danger – Low-Moderate

    :D

  24. It’s kinda vet over there in the pole position columm…

  25. Todd (@braketurnaccelerate)
    15th March 2013, 23:41

    • Pole Time – 01:24.917
    • Pole – Lewis Hamilton
    • Position 1 – Kimi Raikkonen
    • Position 2 – Sebastian Vettel
    • Position 3 – Lewis Hamilton
    • Position 4 – Mark Webber
    • Position 5 – Felipe Massa

  26. i changed my pole time prediction for rain and they cancelled it due to rain ((( now it will most likely be dry and my prediction will be far far off the mark

    1. Haha I was just complaining about the same thing to my missus ;)

      1. I too predicted a 1:23.3 in the dry but changed it to 1:37 due to the rain..
