Strategic superiority gets Raikkonen and Lotus off to a winning start 17th March 2013, 18:34
Kimi Raikkonen made his way up from seventh on the grid to win the first race of 2012 by making one pit stop fewer than his rivals.
Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest lap of the race for Lotus and the next quickest car was not a Red Bull, a Ferrari or a Mercedes – but Jean-Eric Vergne’s Toro Rosso.
It was a busy final day at Albert Park with the race and most of qualifying held on the same day. Here’s pictures of Sunday’s action in Melbourne.
The Australian Grand Prix looked set to end with a battle for the lead – but the Fernando Alonso’s tyres wilted long before Kimi Raikkonen’s.
Kimi Raikkonen had the best strategy in Melbourne but Ferrari were the team to beat in the pits.

Paul di Resta said he was pleased Force India scored seventh and eighth place in the Australian Grand Prix but believed he should have been the driver in seventh place.
