26th March 2013, 16:20
@keith No offense , but Why would you appreciate vettel if he won over mark when mark’s engine was down ? Isn’t that a bit more like a cheetah attacking a deer . It spurs us on to watch the fight but it is not a fair enough fight when compared to all those other laps when vettel was trying to reel in webber . Don’t mistake me , I am totally against team orders and like wheel to wheel racing as long as the other teammate isn’t disadvantaged . In other words , I don’t enjoy vettel zooming past a marussia than when he is fighting an equal Red Bull.
mnmracer (@mnmracer)
26th March 2013, 17:18
Fortunately, Mark wasn’t disadvantaged. According to Horner, they were both in the same engine setting.
Should be kind of obvious anyway. In ‘leaner engine mode’, you don’t outrun a ‘full engine mode’ on three straights (back-straight twice, in case you wonder why 3).
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
26th March 2013, 17:32
@hamilfan I know those who have a vendetta against Vettel have immediately accepted it as gospel truth that Webber did not have the gumption to turn up his own engine to defend himself, but I’m not taking that for granted.
But I don’t care about that anyway. I expect racing drivers to try to win races. Ordering them to do otherwise goes against their programming, it’s asking for trouble.

@david-a Well Webber said so on the podium afterwards and Red Bull said that what Webber said was true

27th March 2013, 2:29
@keithcollantine ” I know those who have a vendetta against Vettel have immediately accepted it as gospel truth that Webber did not have the gumption to turn up his own engine to defend himself ”
I think webber himself told that he had his engines down . I don’t think he generally lies . As to why he did not turn up his engine and have it out with vettel , it is a pity .That way we would have had a better scrap for 1st . Also,I don’t have a vendetta against vettel . I like his driving ( but not amazed all the same ) but it’s his behavior that irks me . If he did not wan’t team orders or if he was , as some say “ True racer ” , then why did he have an agreement with the team , breach it and then apologize . In F1 , one needs to work with one’s team in coordination . Blame the system by all means but please don’t over-glorify the drivers for defying the team. They need the support of the team , resources and engineers as much as they need the driver to perform .

Formula 1 is also a team sport, and the effect on the team is now going to be felt for the rest of the season. I suppose you can admire it in the short term from a drivers’ perspective, but taking matters into your own hands vigilante style in this instance is both disrespectful to your team and to your teammate who was clearly driving to a lap delta and not ‘racing’ for most of the build up.
Sorry, I know there are other threads for this talk but that particular tweet got me a bit rattled and I couldn’t resist typing again ;)

and perhaps break them at his will ? Maybe HRT , he can buy them back ….I Doubt so
OEL F1 (@oel-f1)
26th March 2013, 16:38
Well @bascb Vettel just made sure he will never ever drive for Ferrari! And the rest of the top teams would certanly think tiwce before signing him, they would need to be desperate to do it. So maybe he could find a midfield team but then he’d have to bring money, good luck with your pay driver career Seb.
MagillaGorilla (@magillagorilla)
26th March 2013, 17:35
@oel-f1 You’re going a too far, I think teams may wonder if this guy is going to be a team player and help toward a WCC on days when victory isn’t in sight or run around doing whatever. A driver that is in it for all the gold he can get to pad his record and WDCs as well, which doesn’t make the guy come off as a team player.
BasCB (@bascb)
26th March 2013, 18:25
Alonso demanded team orders from his team as well and did fall out with them when they did not want to give him the advantage. Vettel did much the same – this was about stating that HE is the one that should be getting the advantage as early as possible to win all.
To me that sounds like a driver who fits the Ferrari book pretty well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he did in fact go there soon @oel-f1
OEL F1 (@oel-f1)
26th March 2013, 21:27
Err you know one thing, in Ferrari the team ALWAYS come first, not the drivers. I can not recall any time since starting to watch F1 when a Ferrari driver has gone against the team’s interest.
David-A (@david-a)

@oel-f1 – I also can’t remember Ferrari going against the interests of their usual number 1 driver, so early in the season.
Tomas Andersson (@celebmir)
26th March 2013, 17:34
The best thing Weber could have done in the situation would have been to make a “mistake” and crash them both out of the race.
That way he could ensure that team orders would be followed in the future. I’m sure that Red Bull would have landed heavy on Vettel if Red Bull lost 38 points.
That is what he should have done if he was as selfish (and smart) as Vettel.
MNM101 (@mnm101)

Sure
John H (@john-h)
26th March 2013, 19:38
@mnm101 If you read my comment it is a general one about F1 being a team sport, and no I don’t think Mark attacking Seb against the team’s advice was a smart thing to do either. Perhaps because this was for the race win it makes the action more stark however. And using any sort of KERS failure argument isn’t going to hold any weight when comparing to Webber.
