F1 will be greeted by above-average temperatures in Austin this weekend with an outside chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Average maximum temperatures for Austin in November are around 22C but all three days of the race weekend are forecast to be warmer than that, peaking at 28C on Sunday.
Clear skies on Friday will give way to cloudier conditions for qualifying and the race which could bring with it an occasional light shower.

Here’s what the National Weather Service is calling. As someone in the meteorology field, be advised weather models have been inconsistent on timing. Qualification sessions may be decided on Inters, or this coming system could slow down enough to impact the race. Safe bet though is a slight chance of rain sometime during qualy.

Indeed, we only had the first 5-8 laps in Malaysia on the intermediate tyre.

There were no wet races in either 1986 or 1987.

I really doubt it, but I work the next two nights at a forecast desk in Oklahoma, so I’ll be keeping an eye out. I’m hoping for the more realistic bet at this point, Q2-Q3 on Inters. Some model data is starting to lean towards thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, (something I caught off a new data run after sending my original post). It’s a VERY slim chance, mind you. The surest bet is strong winds out of the south Saturday.
I’d be there this weekend, but an inspection at my job the next week means leave is banned. So, I’m grilling at my apartment hoping people here are up for eschewing the NFL to watch F1.

To be fair, at least in the US, a percentage chance of rain regards the expected area within a forecast zone, (be it NWS boundaries or media broadcast areas). I expect drizzle to light rain Saturday, sometime, if brief. Anything more, the data isn’t worth a claim yet. The winds and sky cover WILL be there Saturday, though. So, who gets the most from a cool track on mediums with extra turbulence?

I’d die laughing if this was our Wet race for the season….in Austin.
I lived in Texas for three years (Wichita Falls) and it never rains. Ever.
