There were some emotional moments on the team radio during the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Mark Webber, who was starting his final race for Red Bull, told his race engineer it was difficult getting into the car for the last time before the race began.

At the end of the race Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali came on Felipe Massa’s radio to tell the departing driver “we love you” and “you are a world champion for us”.

In between those two messages the race featured the usual combinations of concerns over the tyres, anxious weather-watching and anger-provoking incidents – the most notable of which also involved Massa.

Here’s what was broadcast of the drivers’ team radio messages.

Lap*FromToMessage
PRJuan Pablo RamirezGiedo van der GardeRadio check, Giedo. One-two. Radio check.
PRGiedo van der GardeJuan Pablo RamirezRadio check loud and clear. Honestly. You hear me good?
PRJuan Pablo RamirezGiedo van der GardeYes, no problems. So as discussed, standard procedure. So we’ll fit front tyres, fire up, you proceed to do a clutch crop. Fit the rear tyres, then you go straight out. There will be no starting bite-point finder. And you will do a launch. Please use KERS in second gear. You can push all the way up to turn 11. And from then onwards, cool the engine, come back in. Let me know if you need a flap adjustment because we’ll be here waiting in case you need to, and we’ll repeat this twice to do three total laps.
PRJuan Pablo RamirezGiedo van der GardeJust an update. We will do a rolling bite-point finder as we’re going to be far away from the pitlane, before the start position. So to come down the hill into position, you’ll do a rolling bite-point finder and then start using light sequence as usual. And we will do thre, three starts. So every lap, one start.
PRPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonHamilton arrives at the grid.
You’ve got a couple of cars behind, Button, Perez. Remember the start location as advised, so it’ll be a bite-point check that can wait for RS modes.
PRAyao KomatsuRomain GrosjeanOK Romain, same thing. Brake balance map one, clutch P11. And two static bite-point please. And KERS release from second gear.
PRDave RobsonJenson ButtonPurple C2, position six and box this lap.
PRJenson ButtonDave RobsonYeah, there seems to be a hesitation when I drop the paddle.
PRDave RobsonJenson ButtonUnderstood JB, we’ll have a look. And we’d like the same again please. So that’s a bite-point find, three burnouts and a launch.
PRAndrea StellaFernando AlonsoGrip five, use the KERS, OK. Now we open up the top gap, driving negative on the split times.
PRLewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonI have a lot of understeer. I have a very weak front. Not particularly in the lower speed. The previous start I had, not the last one, the previous one, that’s probably a couple of metres before where I started previously and then the last one was in the same place as before. And also had a lot of wheelspin.
PRPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK, copy that. So it’ll be bite-point seven. We were expecting over-engaged start on the last one. That’s good information, so we’ll have another start.
PRDave RobsonJenson ButtonOK Jenson and if we could cool the car this lap, please. Cool the car. You’ll need to go to purple C7 and then keep the delta negative. C7, please for dash delta and keep the delta negative.
PRJenson ButtonDave RobsonStill the same thing, like a hesitation with the engine. Plant the throttle smoothly but there’s a hesitation that’s causing underst- er sorry, causing wheelspin.
PRDave RobsonJenson ButtonCopy that, Jenson. We’re looking at the data. Check your drinks and then we’re going to the grid this time, so we’d like a bite-point find please, bite-point find at the back of the grid and then Lee will be there to meet you.
PRJenson ButtonDave RobsonOK.
PRPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, so cool the car. Cool the car, we’re going to the back of the grid. It is quite busy back there, so caution coming up the hill.
PRLewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonMy brakes feel very weak. The fronts aren’t stopping the car.
PRPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, the fronts are running quite hot. Contrary to yesterday, they are running quite hot, so we’ll have a look at that on the grid.
PR?Ayao KomatsuAyao, multi map one. Clutch nine. KERS second. No more KERS release after that.
PRAyao Komatsu?[Distorted] changes to KERS mode six.
PR?Ayao KomatsuConfirm KERS mode six. Procedure was OK.
PRAyao KomatsuRomain GrosjeanOK, so can we have the pit lane speed limiter off, please. And, as discussed, for the formation lap please [think what we studied about?], OK? Two static bite points and second gear KERS release. After that, no more KERS release, OK? And procedure for race start is two rolling bite points from Safety Car line one, followed by four burnouts, OK?
PRMark SladeHeikki KovalainenKovalainen said after the race he made errors with his pre-start procedure
Heikki, it will be clutch seven for the start, please. And there’s no sign of rain at the moment.
PRPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, so just some last minute reminders. On tyre saving, it is the front-left we expect to be doing some management with. Front-right also a concern, but that’s for graining. So front-right, turn 11, turn four and turn 12 – they’re the real corners we need to look after. So it’s in that order. Turn 11, then turn four, then turn 12 for the front-left, front-right, obviously, six and seven.
PRBrad JoyceAdrian SutilSo, it’ll be start mode one for a launch from the dummy grid. On the formation lap, concentrate on the brake temperatures. Tyre temperatures.
PRSimon RennieMark WebberAnd most important reminder, mate, is just enjoy it today.
PRMark WebberSimon RennieNot easy, getting in the car the last time.
FL?Paul di RestaAre you happy with mid four? You’re in mid three at the moment.
FLPaul di Resta?Yep.
FL?Paul di RestaCopy.
FL?Nico HulkenbergWarm up tyres and brakes, learn all gears.
FL?Sebastian VettelAnd gearbox sync when you can. We need sync in gear six, gear seven. Gear box sync now is- ?óÔé¼?ªgearbox sync is good. KERS is good. No more KERS. Engine is on target.
FLMark WebberSimon RennieMy visor is off, mate, my visor is off.
FLSimon RennieMark WebberMulti seven, position two.
FLTony RossNico RosbergNeed to think about bunching the field a little bit. Bunch the field, and we’re looking for three burnouts, currently. Three burnouts. Brake temps are looking OK now. Slightly hotter on the rear than the front, but they’re OK.
FLBrad JoyceAdrian SutilSo one bite point find, burnout. One burnout, one bite point find and a further burnout. RPM one.
1Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonSo cancel RS.
2Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK mate, start switch up now. You should be soon out of the [distorted] that’s a great first lap. Start swtich up. We are P6 at the moment.
2Mark TempleSergio PerezGreat job, Checo. Let’s keep doing the plan as discussed.
2Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenDiff is still latched.
3Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonTyre temps in the middle of the window. DRS has been enabled.
3Romain GrosjeanAyao KomatsuGrosjean retired form the race moments later with an engine failure, which it seems he initially suspected was a problem with top gear.
What is this seventh gear? It’s a disaster.
3Ayao KomatsuRomain GrosjeanOK, copy that Romain.
4Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelRosberg 19.4. Focus on the gap. Grosjean, engine failure. Turn 12 and up the hill.
4Simon RennieMark WebberThere’s a yellow, 13 and 14. There may be oil, turn 12, 13, 14. May be oil. DRS currently disabled.
5Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK, DRS is enabled. Just watch out for oil where you are now. It should be OK. Grosjean blew the engine up, he’s stopped on your left-hand side now.
5Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelOK, the track is clear ahead, but still could be slippery.
6Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonAnd harvest six. Harvest six when you can. You are faster than Nico at all points on track. Traction’s at 780. All the brake temps are looking good, tyres are in the window.
6Andrea StellaFernando AlonsoIn Italian
Pro-tab anti-clockwise on the rear end. You gained a lot on Rosberg, it will be more than a second.
7Andrew MurdochPastor MaldonadoTyres look good. Tyres are looking good.
7Pastor MaldonadoAndrew MurdochOK.
8Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachFront left looks to be graining now.
8Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergCopy Nico. Release five. Pace looks similar to guys in front and rear, good job so far.
8Phil CharlesJean-Eric VergneEntry five, be careful on entry. Gentle on entry. You are braking a lot later than Daniel.
9Nico RosbergTony RossStruggling a lot with the rears at the moment.
9Tony RossNico RosbergCopy. Suggest going further forwards on balance at the moment. So if you have a problem with the tyres, then don’t hold up Lewis, If they’re coming back, then push. Mix three.
9Daniel RicciardoMarco MatassaSuffering with right-front graining at the moment.
9Marco MatassaDaniel RicciardoCopy Daniel. Be gentle on turn six to help front right.
11Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaEasier on the throttle, exit 12.
11Jenson ButtonDave RobsonWhat times is the Mercedes doing?
11Dave RobsonJenson ButtonJenson, Rosberg last lap 19.1.
12Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaKERS recharge one click off. Rosberg complaining about the rears.
12Tony RossNico RosbergSo Nico, we’d like you to let Lewis through. We think you may be holding him up. Just to build a gap to Massa. We are in your Safety Car window now.
12Nico RosbergTony RossFind out why I’m struggling with the rear tyres. What aero balance is the other car on?
13Mark TempleSergio PerezOK Checo, this is a fantastic drive. Let’s keep it going. Cars in front, Ricciardo, looks like he is struggling. Bottas is immediately behind him.
13Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonHarvest mode seven. Watch throttle-brake overlap.
14Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelWebber is now P2. You’re plus 9.7 Webber. He’s been doing similar lap times to yours.
14Andrea StellaFernando AlonsoIn Italian
KERS 60. Now Hamilton is fourth. We are faster. Hamilton fourth followed by Rosberg and then Felipe.
15Pastor MaldonadoAndrew MurdochWe need to pit soon
15Andrew MurdochPastor MaldonadoCopy that, Pastor. We need to stay out for the minute. There’s a risk of showers.
15Max ChiltonGary GannonGuys I’m struggling with front locking. And low traction overall.
15Gary GannonMax ChiltonUnderstood. For traction, try mid five, exit ten and watch for small shower at turn 12.
15Tony RossNico RosbergSo Nico, light rain ten minutes away possibly.
16Andrea StellaFernando AlonsoNo rain expected in the next 20 minutes. It may be that will happen in the middle of the race or towards the end.
16Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaMassa passed Rosberg for fifth
OK that was a good pass, mate. Come on, boy. Come on.
16Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenClutch ten. We’re leaving the wing alone.
17Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenOK Heikki, it’s going to be tight with Chilton at the pit exit. You need to push now.
17Giedo van der GardeJuan Pablo RamirezMy rear tyres start to go, I have a lot of oversteer.
17Juan Pablo RamirezGiedo van der GardeOK Giedo, we try to stay out. There might be a shower arriving. KERS 11 and use the top-right paddle.
18GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaOK Paul, we need to push now. Now is the time to push.
18Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelSebastian, your pace is good. You’re the fastest car on track. There are no good gaps behind you, so stay as you are. You’re doing a good job.
19Tony RossNico RosbergSo rain, we think, in five minutes.
19Andrew MurdochPastor MaldonadoOK Pastor. Keep out for the minute, stay out.
19Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonSo same lap times as Alonso, three tenths faster than Massa. You also have another step of EB available, torque three.
20Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelThere’s a few spots of rain in the air. We don’t think it’s serious at the moment so we’re sticking to plan.
20Marco MatassaDaniel RicciardoYou’re much, much faster compared to all the cars in front of you.
20Juan Pablo RamirezGiedo van der GardeOK Giedo, there is a group of cars coming from behind. Do not lose time with them. Sutil is first.
20Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaJust behind Di Resta, as we expected. In front of Gutierrez. We expect the rest to be pitting soon. He’s been told to push, Di Resta.
21GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaBox, pit confirm, Paul. Box, pit confirm. Absolutely everything you have.
21Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenKovalainen passed Vergne for 17th
[Audible applause] That’s the way, boy. That’s great. Well done mate.
21Heikki KovalainenMark SladeYou repeat, Mark?
21Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenJust saying well done, mate. Good job.
22Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK, keep pushing mate. It will be tight with Hamilton at the minute if he pits at the end of this lap. Keep pushing.
22Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezLet us know about the rain. Let us know more about the rain.
22Esteban GutierrezFrancesco NenciIs not much. Is just a little bit.
22Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezCopy.
23Brad JoyceAdrian SutilOK Adrian, so we want another reasonable stint length on these tyres to make our next stop lap. So now start to look after them. The temperatures are nice and high.
23Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergEsteban will stop now. Shift two [distorted] nine.
24Tony RossNico RosbergLooks like you’ve come out behind Jenson. In front of Ricciardo. Ricciardo has stopped, he’s on hards.
24Simon RennieMark WebberRemember, brake pressure and stop.
24Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelBox, box, box. Torque map one and box.
24Nico RosbergTony RossThere’s a technical problem with torque three. Should I be going to torque two? I want less aggrevation.
24Tony RossNico RosbergAffirm, torque two is better.
25Tony RossNico RosbergSo. Rear-right, 35 remaining. Front-right, 45 remaining.
26Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezGood job Esteban. Now Bottas in front.
26Esteban GutierrezFrancesco NenciI want shift three.
26Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezOK, then you go shift three [distorted] 13.
26Tony RossNico RosbergSo temperatures now stable. You can move the brake balance forwards.
26Nico RosbergTony RossWhat about mix position?
26Tony RossNico RosbergMix position is good, stay at mix three.
27GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaNot expecting any widespread showers. Only drops possible at times. Your pace is good. Pace is good.
27Tony RossNico RosbergSo you match Jenson on laptime. If you can go minus plus two, that would be useful.
27Nico RosbergTony RossWhat about torque position? Torque two or torque three?
27Tony RossNico RosbergAvoid torque three.
28Jonathan EddolllsValtteri BottasGo standard mode. One of them’s got knocked.
29Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonFeels like he’s got double boost. Very quick out of the last corner.
29Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonCopy that Lewis you can reduce the boost out of turn two, three, save it for the main drag.
30Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK mate, this is fine. I think Hamilton has a problem with his KERS. He doesn’t use all his KERS, he uses like one light, so I think he has a problem too. Just carry on like this is fine.
29Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergTarget is 18. Hard is clearly slower. Hards slower. So target 18, maybe more. We had around 80% wear on the first set, so cool the front longer.
29Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachYou’re too quiet. I don’t hear you so well. Front-right is going, some graining again.
30Paul DavisonJules BianchiMax has just stopped. He’s now 16 seconds behind, Jules.
30Jules BianchiPaul DavisonIt’s proper raining. Some proper rain. I can feel it.
30Paul DavisonJules BianchiOK mate, understood. Blue flags, Webber and Alonso.
31Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK we have a message again. Please watch the pit entry. Don’t cross the pit entry with all four wheels. We have another message.
32Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonMercedes confirmed after the race both their drivers had reported Massa for crossing the line at the pit lane entry which drivers had been told not to do.
So Massa under investigation for crossing the white line
33Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonMassa is given a drive-through penalty after breaching the pit entry again.
Massa has a drive-through. Massa has a drive-through, so don’t challenge him. Coming up on Bianchi, he is traffic. Massa has a drive-through.
33Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonOK.
33Nico RosbergTony RossI was thinking killing the tyres.
33Tony RossNico RosbergHarvest five, Nico.
33Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaOK mate, unfortunately we have a drive-through penalty for crossing the white line at then entry to the pit lane. So there you go. Can you take the penalty at the end of this lap, please? So pass through at the end of this lap.
33Felipe MassaRob SmedleyThis is unacceptable. It’s just unbelievable. Unbelieveable, FIA. Unbelieveable! Unacceptable!
34Tim WrightCharles PicOK Charles, now you can push.
35Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonReferring to Massa, who has not yet taken his penalty. The Ferrari driver was slower each time from laps 30 to 32 and pitted to take his penalty at the end of lap 34.
He’s backed off.
35Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, he’s obviously trying to push you back, but don’t get suckered into it. This isn’t the problem for us, so just sit tight. Massa’s going to have to come in soon.
36Mark TempleSergio PerezMassa has to pit this lap for his penalty. We will be racing him at the exit, let’s keep pushing.
36Dave RobsonJenson ButtonOK Jenson, Massa’s penalty was for crossing that line, so we must follow the rules on the white line at the pit entry.
36Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachUpdate my pit board. What is the gap behind?
36Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergFive seconds. Target is ten.
37Dave RobsonJenson ButtonRecommend you look after the front-right a little bit in turn 11.
37Jenson ButtonDave RobsonDave can you stop talking to me in braking zones?
38Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis. Forecast shows it will be clear for the next 20 minutes, but let us know if you see anything different.
38Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonI don’t know if these tyres will last another 20.
39Felipe MassaRob SmedleyWhat’s the situation with the tyres? How many laps?
39Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaErr, yeah?óÔé¼?ª we still need another five or six laps.
39Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachThe understeer is killing me. And now front locking’s coming too.
39Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergCopy Nico. Remember the front-right is the limit. Shift three, fuel 13.
40Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaCurrent situation with the car behind, Hulkenberg is five seconds behind and not a threat. He is slower. Hulkenberg, car behind, is slower at the minute.
41Mark WebberSimon RennieOK.
41Simon RennieMark WebberOK. At the moment pace is good. Position is good. You are pulling away from Alonso behind, same pace as Vettel. Doing a good job, mate.
41Brad JoyceAdrian SutilSo we’re fastest car on the circuit now, OK? Fastest car on the circuit. Got 30 laps to go on a set of Hards on the car. So let’s see where this takes us.
43Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachRaining, turn five.
43Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergCopy, Nico, copy. For me, should be only drops, do you agree? Only drops?
43Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachAye aye, so far.
43Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergOK, OK.
43Max ChiltonGary GannonYeah, I can see it. The last two laps it’s [distorted], but it’s not too bad.
43Gary GannonMax ChiltonUnderstood
44Jonathan EddolllsValtteri BottasWe’ve put you on a medium tyre. Twenty-eight laps to go if you can make it.
44Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaBox now, mate. Box now.
44Felipe MassaRob SmedleyIt’s raining a bit, now,
44Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaStay out. Stay out. Stay out.
45Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergKill the tyres now, Nico. Kill the tyres. Front or for Hards I would keep it or even go plus one.
46GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaOK Paul, so you will be?óÔé¼?ª well, you are racing Massa behind. Coming up to lap Marussia ahead. Let’s not lose too much time in this. Get yourself up into the DRS of the Marussia.
47Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonGetting darker and darker at the back. Rain intensity the same.
47Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonCopy that message, looks like it’s five minutes away Lewis.
47Gary GannonMax ChiltonBlue flag, Massa.
47Marco MatassaDaniel RicciardoSutil in front is on new Hards. Six laps old.
48Marco MatassaDaniel RicciardoLook after front right.
49Valtteri BottasJonathan EddollsBottas retired after contact with Hamilton. Message censored by FOM.
That was ******. I think he turned into me.
49Jonathan EddolllsValtteri BottasCopy that. Stop the engine. That’s it.
49Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachKeep me informed of the guys’ tyres in front. Guti stopped only once, Mediums.
49Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergSutil Hards, stopped only once quite a while ago in front.
49Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonThis message was broadcast before the following one but likely came after it.
Let’s go to harvest five. We have picked up some floor damage, we’ll get a report from Kim on the aero.
50Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonIs my floor OK? The car’s not handling very well.
50Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonWe’ll get back to you soon as we can.
51Paul di RestaGianPiero LambiaseSeems to have been a message from his previous stint, which ended on lap 47, asking for fresh tyres.
Can I please have [distorted] tyres?
51GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaCopy now. Maintain that lap time for the moment.
51Phil CharlesJean-Eric VergneTwenty-one laps to go after this one, Jev. And a little bit of rain coming.
51Max ChiltonGary GannonThe rain’s off again, so maybe should’ve waited
52Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonStewards hand Hamilton a drive-through penalty for contact with Bottas
Can you give me an update?
52Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, I’m afraid we’ve got a drive-through. We’ve got a drive-through for causing a collision. So we want to get it out the way as soon as possible just in case any rain comes. So one more lap. One more lap and then we’ll take this drive through. Your pace is looking good, it’s only a tenth and a half off Massa. No, so stay out. Stay out.
53Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonI don’t understand. It’s not my fault.
53Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonYes mate, we don’t quite understand it but we’re going to have to take it. So just keep pushing as much as you can.
54Heikki KovalainenMark SladeGetting a little bit heavier drizzle now, so keep an eye.
54Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenOK, understood. Hamilton is in.
54Gary GannonMax ChiltonBlue flag, Alonso.
55Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelThere’s some rain on the way to the track. It’s very localised so we need your help on this.
55Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaPress the ‘ED’ button, please. Press the ‘ED’ button. Gap is stable, around three seconds to Perez. Rosberg and Button in front. So we have 18 laps to go, so think about saving the tyres a bit as you are now and then we push on in about five laps.
55Paul DavisonJules BianchiWe have to be very careful with blue flags, that’s what Van der Garde was penalised for. Let’s let them through cleanly as you have been doing, mate.
55GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaOK, let’s get past Kovalainen, Paul. Use the overtake button.
56Tony RossNico RosbergImportant to maintain position in front of Perez.
56Simon RennieMark WebberOK Mark, we have to look after the rears this stint.
56Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaGo mix P6. Sixteen laps to go.
57Gary GannonMax ChiltonRain should be getting better soon.
57GianPiero LambiasePaul di RestaWe are free to push now. Especially in these conditions. We need to catch Ricciardo.
57Marco SchupbachNico HulkenbergNo risk of rain, only a few drops possibly, at times.
57Nico HulkenbergMarco SchupbachSee. The Hard is a much better tyre. Much more robust. No graining.
58Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, watch for throttle-brake overlap. That’s the only way we’ll get the battery charged.
58Simon RennieMark WebberWatch the rear slip. Diff seven.
59Paul DavisonJules BianchiOK, we’ve got 12 laps to go, mate. Pace looks good, we’re catching Pic. And blue flag, Di Resta.
59Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenOK, you’ve got blue flags for Vettel. How are the tyres?
59Heikki KovalainenMark SladeThe front tyres are going. Thr right-front is going a little bit. Understeery.
59Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenOK Heikki. You could try reducing diff entry locking and using the high-speed diff paddle.
59Heikki KovalainenMark SladeOK.
59Mark SladeHeikki KovalainenAnd mix five,
62Charles PicTim WrightPic suffers suspension failure, ending his race
Err?óÔé¼?ª something broke on the car.
62Tim WrightCharles PicOK Charles, understood. Can- pull off the track and kill the engine. Pull off the track and kill the engine.
62Charles PicTim WrightDo you know what it was?
62Tim WrightCharles PicNo, not yet. Turn the steering wheel so the car doesn’t run back onto the track.
62Charles PicTim WrightI will have to stay on the car with the brake because if not the car roll back on the track.
62Tim WrightCharles PicOK, turn the steering wheel, Charles. Turn the steering wheel so the car doesn’t roll back on the track. And wave for the marshalls.
62Charles PicTim WrightYeah, but the steering wheel will not keep it up, I need the marshalls to keep the car.
62Tim WrightCharles PicStay in the car. Stay in the car, help will come. Kill the car. P0.
64Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezOK Esteban, you can let him by now. Anyway, we’ll be quicker than him.
64Esteban GutierrezFrancesco NenciHe is in front of me.
64Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezPush, now. Push. He can get away.
64Andrea StellaFernando AlonsoItalian
Fernando, remember the pit entry issue. Remember the pit entry issue. It’s still yellow.
64Sebastian VettelGuillaume RocquelinBlue flag, come on.
66Andrew MurdochPastor MaldonadoMaldonado spins after contact with Vergne.
OK Pastor, everything OK with the car? Watch the traffic coming from behind. Let Button go. Are you OK to finish? Just confirm.
66Pastor MaldonadoAndrew MurdochThe tyres are fine. We are OK.
67Guillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelThe rain is going to pick up in a few laps’ time. Not enough, we think, to change tyres. But be careful – rain is picking up between now and the end of the race.
68Max ChiltonGary GannonVibration is getting really bad, I’m not sure what it is.
69Lewis HamiltonPeter BonningtonWhere’s the rain, guys?
69Peter BonningtonLewis HamiltonThe rain has cleared, Lewis.
69Francesco NenciEsteban GutierrezSutil behind one second faster. Push, push.
70Fernando AlonsoAndrea Stella[In Italian]
Do I have the fastest lap?
70Andrea StellaFernando AlonsoI don’t know at the moment. Two laps to go.
70Rob SmedleyFelipe MassaPress the ‘ED’ button. Two laps to go. Hulkenberg 17 seconds behind. Perez six seconds in front.
71Christian HornerMark WebberOne more lap, Mark. Enjoy it.
71Mark WebberChristian HornerYeah, thanks boys. I’ll enjoy the last lap, thank you.
VLGuillaume RocquelinSebastian VettelMate, no one has ever done what you’ve just done. In the history of the sport. Man, I’m proud.
VLSebastian VettelGuillaume RocquelinGuys, I’m so proud of you. I love you guys. As I said in Austin, remember this. Enjoy this, this moment. A team effort, guys. All year. All year’s hard work. Yes! We did it! This is unbelieveable.
VLChristian HornerMark WebberApplause can be heard in the background.
Well done, mate. You’ve had some fantastic career. It’s been brilliant working with you. You can be proud of everything you’ve done, because we certainly are. Well done.
VLSimon RennieMark WebberNice job, mate. Absolutely brilliant. I know we made it pretty difficult for you, but very good drive. Good race craft, good pace. Nice job, mate. Mixture one please and use all the KERS if possible.
VLMark TempleSergio PerezAbsolutely sensational drive, Checo. P6. Awesome opening lap. Let’s use high gears, nice slow in lap. Low RPM. That was absolutely brilliant. It’s been great working with you and that was an awesome way to finish.
VLSergio PerezMark TempleThank you, guys. Thanks for everything and I wish you the best.
VLDave RobsonJenson ButtonOK Jenson, fantastic job, great result, great drive. So Jenson, yellow G3 is good, please. And please complete this in lap as normal. JB that’s a fantastic drive, P4.
VLJenson ButtonDave RobsonYeah, great job guys. I’m not going to say we’d have done any better starting further up, because I really don’t think we did. I think we got the maximum out of the car and that’s a good way to end the season. It’s been a tough old year for all of us and I want to say thank you to everyone for sticking with it. It’s been very, very painful, but it will defintely be a better next year. So congratulations everyone, good result with both cars. Happy way to end the year. Cheers guys.
VLTony RossNico RosbergMix four and pick up rubber. Good job, Nico. So order is; Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Button, yourself, Perez, Massa and then it looks like it’ll be Hulkenberg and then Lewis.
VLPeter BonningtonLewis HamiltonOK Lewis, so that’s P9. That’s a great drive. Great drive there, man. Shame about Bottas – haven’t a clue what happened there – but secured 2nd in the constructor’s at least and got the result that we needed for the team.

  1. As you can see @WillWood produced the transcripts this week (as last) and did a smashing job to turn them around so quickly – I don’t think we’ve had the race one up on Wednesday before, never mind Tuesday!

He also transcribed a couple of lines Rob Smedley spoke in the Ferrari garage before the race that were audible on the pit wall channel though not via the radios:

[to an unidentified team member] “Tell Juliano on the radio about the crossing out of the list. And the message will be ‘manage KERS’. Make sure he crosses it out because when we’re there reading it out, I’ll read it.”

[to Massa] “So the corners that we talked about saving, here and here, OK? Here is a corner where you naturally carry a lot of speed on entry. You can modify them a bit by carrying a lot of speed and then being slow on the exit and saving the rears. Putting the car in the right position, OK? Tyre pressures are OK. We just have to find the right balance, because the track is ****ing green…”

  2. This is so acceptable. It’s just unbelievable. Unbelieveable, @WillWood. Unbelieveable! So acceptable!

Thanks again for this great addition F1Fanatic.

    1. Seconded! Fantastic work, I think the thing that makes F1F so unique is the attention to detail for every facet of F1, and the team-radio articles are a fantastic example. I’ve enjoyed reading them this season. Thank you.

  3. Great job @willwood, figured I’d thank the right guy this time. Alonso and Stella pretty chatty again.

  4. Touching final message for Felipe there. Perez has showed a lot of class after being dropped, and his last message was totally classy. A certain Venezuelan could learn from Perez how to leave a team in a dignified manner!

    1. Hear, hear. Perez’s attitude has been impressive since being dropped (as have his races since then). He’s been very graceful despite being in a difficult position. In fact, I’ve been impressed with his attitude throughout his short spell at McLaren. They’ve lost a good one there.

      1. @deej92 You’re right, he’s been deeply impressive inside the car and out. He scored decent points in every race bar Japan since Singapore. He really settled down after the first half of the season and I think McLaren did him a disservice by not giving him another season. They really did lose a good one. Here’s hoping we see him at Force India in 2014!

        1. @colossal-squid @deej92 I too thought Perez’s attitude has been great since being dropped. But then I remembered these are drivers getting tonnes of money, not only for driving, but also for being great PR, BS machines. As a drvier for a team I’d imagine one big point in a contract would be how you represent the team, and what you say. Obviously with action being taken if you insult the team publicly, go out drunk etc etc. So I think it’s more him abiding by his contract than anything else :(

I’d love to start an F1 team, just to have two puppets, and my hands up their…

    2. Lol, considering some reports from people close to Perez in spanish press, Perez departure from McLaren was anything but classy, and he released his letter ahead of time to play the victim.

Great job translating the Italian sections. Congratulations to @willwood and to @keithcollantine, I find funny you “apologize for having it late on Wednesday” when actually we can’t find this stuff anywhere else on the Web, not even in the FIA site. Congratulations to you both and thanks for keeping us informed.
PS: Will you keep working daily to inform us about the final seats confirmed during these weeks?

  6. Is this a complete list of radio transmissions? I ask because McLaren say their drivers reported Massa but these transmissions do not show in the list.
My main interest is to find out how many warnings were passed on to Massa before his penalty. From this list as it stands it looks as though only the final one was passed on and then without much clarity. Is this why he was so upset?

    1. Is this a complete list of radio transmissions?

Far from it. These are the ones broadcast on the world feed or pit lane channel. I don’t think anyone but the FIA and the FOM have access to all messages. Plus most of the messages would be very boring.

    2. As it says in the article this is the messages that were broadcast. For example, in the article it also refers to the Mercedes driving complaining about Massa cutting the line but those messages weren’t broadcast either.

  7. Respect to Will Wood, is he taking over he has uploaded loads of stuff. And less spelling mistakes…

  8. ‘#PR JB: there’s a hesitation that’s causing underst- er sorry, causing wheelspin.’ It’s nothing but gave me a little chuckle!

I’m curious why Alonso asked if he got the fastest lap. Was there any other signs in the past that Alonso cared about F/L record? Don’t get me wrong. I just found it interesting, I’m not implying there’s anything wrong in that.
Speaking of F/L, without the drizzle during the later part of the race I guess Vettel would have gone for that and it would have been another grand chelem. Rosberg took the lead at the start but Vettel crossed the S/F line just ahead of him at the end of the opening lap.

Webber’s ‘OK’ on lap 41 was his answer to Rennie “You must stay away from the white line at pit entry.”, “We will get no more warnings.”

Indeed, many emotional messages after the race. Reading them doesn’t help me cope with withdrawal symptoms. :(

    1. Oh and thanks for the great work, Will Wood and Keith. These are one of my favorite features on here.

    2. I think that’s just what he was trying to avoid – “another grand chelem” for Vettel.
As some of his interviews show us, he seems to struggle with the fact that Vettel is becoming more and more a legend of the sport.

  9. Another lovely job with the team radio Keith, thanks @willwood to have included everything you have with remarks as well and to do it that fast too!

We will have to ask you to do sports cars endurance race team radio too now :-P

    1. @bascb That would be excruciating!

  10. “Max Chilton Gary Gannon Guys I’m struggling with front locking. And low traction overall.”

Max Chilton, out Button-ing Button! ;)

  11. Thank you very much for the radio transcripts. This is great stuff from @WillWood, and it shows to what extent F1 is so technical.
I have a question: how do you put your hands on the transcripts?.
Aren’t they supposed to be strictly confidential, apart from the few fragments the teams (or FIA?) allow us to hear during GP’s.
