@KeeleyObsessed likes the look of next year’s driver line-ups so far:

Red Bull now have two drivers from their Young Driver Programme in the team, and Vettel gets his first chance to prove himself against another driver since he?s come to form.

Ferrari have two World champions in Alonso and Raikkonen, and they couldn?t be more different out of the car.

Lotus have Grosjean and Maldonado. This time last year that could have been considered the nightmare team, but Grosjean has come good and there?s some hope that the team may be able to control Maldonado. Time will tell.

Mercedes have Hamilton and Rosberg, who were close last year and look to be close again, hopefully fighting for the championship.

McLaren have Button and Magnussen, two completely different ends of the spectrum, one driver who has just about done it all and had all the ups and downs, and new blood with Magnussen as he tries to make an impact. Williams have a similar situation though not as extreme in Massa and Bottas.

Toro Rosso have given Kvyat a chance to jump GP2/Formula Renault 3.5 and get straight into F1, lets hope he can get to grips with it.

And now we?ve got Perez and Hulkenberg in Force India, a line-up of drivers that can be incredibly good on their day and have proven that at several points. My money would be on Hulkenberg to edge Perez next season, but it?s certainly going to be an exciting line-up.

So even if the 2014 cars are so different to each other in terms of performance, the intra-team battles should easily keep us interested!

On this day in F1

Norbert Haug stepped down as vice-president of Mercedes-Benz motorsport on this day last year, at the end of a disappointing season in which their F1 team had gone from winning a race to struggling to score points.

Less than 12 months later Mercedes have finished second in the constructors’ championship this year but also seen team principal Ross Brawn leave, with a new management structure headed up by Toto Wolff on the business side and Paddy Lowe on the engineering side.

    Looking at the votes for Vettel in the Autosport article I think his score of 248 can only be achieved with 8×25 points, 2x 18 points and 1×12 points.

    I’m wondering which team principal only ranks him as fourth best this year (presumably behind Alonso, Raikkonen and Hamilton). Ferrari are obvious candidates for voting up their own drivers for next year and perhaps (unsuccessfully) trying to deflate Vettel’s image a little despite the fact that they seem the most likely team to take him away from Red Bull in the future!

      Same goes for Red Bull last year when they were at least 2 team principles that didn’t vote Alonso as the best driver (Red Bull & Torro Rosso)

  3. I think it’s definitely a change of the rules that will have a big impact on how you finish the season – for some it will be right, for some it will be wrong. But I look on the positives – I think it will create a better final race when things can change completely in the constructors’ and drivers’ championships. Obviously one race will matter a lot more on your final result, but it can go both ways for anyone. I’m ok with the rule, I would say.

    I think he try to explain entire scenario and looks at the positive of it. As we can’t change this now. I wonder if this rule has to be applied, all the teams should agree to it, is’t it?

    I’m disappointing in perez’s comments, not surprised though. he’d have a different answer if he was fighting for first or second in the championship.

    Guys it wasn’t Perez who left without seat Di Resta, was Hulk, Sutil was dropped AFTER Di Resta, so Perez took Sutil’s seat. Now re think your position, Hulk better than Di Resta, Perez better than Sutil, line up fixed.
    Now is also bitter sweet Force India has stronger lineup than Mclaren, Perez was better qualifier than Button and Hulk also not bad, given same engine for both teams and aero not so important it does feel like Force India has the upper hand, but is obvious some may feel that Perez all of sudden is against British but he is not, he didn’t bring any millions to Mclaren so let’s see if he does to FI, Vijay say was not important at all for him and to be truth has never been.
    All of this is Whitmarsh fault not Perez, if you need to hate someone.

      Since when did force india get honda engines for 2014? And force india do not have a W.champion in there driver line up! Mclarens driver line up will be complemented by the car they will be racing.
      Force India are a midpack team no front runners by any stretch of the imagination.

    Ok, ill be the first one.

    While everyone is rolling their eyes on Perez, I don’t completely agree with the rule, but I don’t disagree with it either. The rule is equal for everyone I guess, but at least it will make the leaders think twice before they become too comfortable with their championship lead or the teams for the constructors lead/points. It’s the last race of they year and so why not go out with the bang. Usually by this time/race majority of the teams are winding down because everyone knows the outcome, and some teams have even stopped developing their cars. But I think this needs to change, or forced to be changed. This is one way to do it.

    To me personally the current point system is boring. But I’ve always thought that, so this brings in a bit of a mix and I think it is exciting.

    I fail to see the impact of double points?
    The cream of the crop always rises to the top&im sure 13wins in a season (as seb done) would still win u a world championship regardless of the points system.
    WTCC used to do double bubble for Macau (last race)& there were some spirited attempts at the championship from mathematical contenders.
    Wot is everybody moaning for?

    What a gimmick! Come on F1 get your schiz together. Your starting to sound like a bunch of pot head’s that have smoked their selves stupid. The point difference in the championship isn’t always so huge as it was this year. How would you like to be leading the championship at the last race and have a mechanical problem and be forced to start from way down in the field in qualifying. Passing is so hard nowadays that you may not be able to make up the points to overcome the double points being handed out. This totally negates rewarding driver consistency over the course of a season. Everyone can have bad luck, it shouldn’t destroy all of your hard work. If they want to reward effort and hard work they could give points for pole position, fastest lap,most laps led,quickest pit stop etc. At least these are points for a real accomplishment and not a manufactured outcome. Come on F1 get back to the racing and stop the gimmicks. Even though I don’t really like Checo he is entitled to his opinion however wrong it may be.

    More than 90% of the people on this site are against the double points rule. The interesting thing is that probably a similar percentage (on this and other sites together with some high-profile drivers) were complaining that the last season was boring (due to Vettel’s dominance) and they would stop watching if that doesn’t change.
    You got what you asked for.
