Fernando Alonso will start the Australian Grand Prix where he qualified after the stewards found he did not impede a rival during qualifying.

Alonso attracted the attention of the stewards over an alleged incident involving Esteban Gutierrez during Q1.

However the stewards cleared Alonso of any wrongdoing following an investigation.

“Having reviewed the video evidence and having heard the explanation of both drivers, the stewards were satisfied that the driver of Car 14 [Alonso] did not unnecessarily impede car 21 [Gutierrez],” they said in a statement.

Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnussen also avoided penalties for other alleged infringements.

Watched it on Sky and both commentators totally missed this.

  2. He certainly impeded him. Guess it was necessary then…

The statement makes it clear that he wasn’t let off because Gutierrez isn’t considered to be a rival.

  3. [irony]Alonso not penalized for something he should have been penalized for? WOW! What a shock![/irony]

    1. No!! It would´ve gone against the “script” if he would have gotten the penalty and you can´t mess with the “script” man!! You should know better! ahhahahhahahaha
He is “scripted” for fifth place because it is on the clean side, always has fabulous starts and is good enough to work his way up…
This was no Teflonso episode… it´s just the script doing it´s thing!
