Rain in Shanghai on Saturday produced the third wet qualifying session of the year and the third pole position for Lewis Hamilton.

But while Red Bull were trying to beat Mercedes, designer Adrian Newey was at Silverstone to have a look at former driver Mark Webber’s Porsche LMP1 car.

Here’s how Saturday in Shanghai unfolded on Twitter.

Practice 3

Qualifying

Romain Grosjean qualified in the top ten – the first time Lotus has done so this season.

Kimi Raikkonen’s weekend went from bad to worse as he failed to make Q3.

After the action

There was disappointment at McLaren, as Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen could only manage 12th and 15th on the grid respectively.

After equalling his best result of second on the grid, Daniel Ricciardo answered questions from fans on Twitter.

  4. I have no idea why Chilton is so popular. I assume a lot of people (me included) like him ironically but he always seems to be with so many fans. I guess he must be a really nice guy.
