I don’t understand why they always have the 500 and the Moanco GP on the same weekend. Couldn’t the two reach an agreement to have them separated by a week?

I’ve never got that either. Two of the biggest motorsport events of the year and they have to coincide. You certainly wouldn’t get UEFA letting the Europa league collide with the Champions League.

I think you have to put Le Mans up there, which surely is one of the if not the biggest motorsport event of the year. But apart from that I fully agree with you. There even where years where all three of them were at the same day.

The problem is that the Americans could not accept, that there is something bigger in the motorsport world than the Indy 500 (except maybe some NASCAR race) and F1 never cared about the calender of any national series.

Monaco has occasionally varied, but the 500 has traditionally centered around the US Memorial Day. As Indy predates Monaco, it’d be nice to see F1 move Monaco to two weeks prior, then have a three week break until Montreal. THEN, to make Kimi and others happy, they’ll have the time to enter in both events.

The 500 has been run on Memorial Day since 1911 (now on the Sunday to accommodate possible rain delays to the Monday Holiday for TV). Post WW2, Monaco has been traditionally run in the week of the religious Feast of the Ascension Thursday which is variable since it falls 40 days after Easter. This is why practice is run on Thursday which was a holiday in the principality, leaving the streets open for normal business on Friday. It has only been in the past decade that F1 has usurped the 500s traditional weekend.

Don’t forget the Coca-Cola 600… NASCAR’s longest race of the season.

They clash cause, primarily, not many people out side of the US care about Indy. Im not saying im one of them. I love all motor sport in all forms. But honestly Indy, even the 500, is small outside the USA.

    BBC, where have you gone?

I think this is the best race in the world.
