The qualifying success of Felipe Massa and Williams proved very popular among media, fans and drivers.

Here’s how Saturday at the Red Bull Ring went down on Twitter.

Third practice

Qualifying

Williams showed good pace in practice sessions. But when Massa got ready for qualifying, he surely did not expect a pole position.

After qualifying

The GP2 race saw more success for Williams, with their third driver Felipe Nasr taking the victory. He was joined on the podium by Stoffel Vandoorne and Raffaele Marciello, who are supported by McLaren and Ferrari respectively, while Red Bull backed Alex Lynn won in GP3.

  1. I didn’t see it but read or heard somewhere Lewis his first lap wasn’t a pole one either.

    1. @xtwl He was quite a bit quicker than Bottas through the first two sectors, so a decent third sector would have been enough for pole position. His time was 5th fastest after the mistake at turn eight, before being deleted.

      1. @enigma But both Williams cars did improve later on. Massa his time certainly was very quick.

    2. Hamilton was 0.395 faster than Bottas at the second intermediate. He could have lost some three tenths in the last sector (as Massa was about a tenth faster than his teammate) and still have pole.

I agree with Calado that Ericsson is quite bad but he’s undoubtedly got an ulterior motive in his criticism. Not that I don’t want the Caterham seat if it’s available mind you.

Somewhere in the archives I have a picture of that BRM in the garage at Watkins Glen. With the name of a guy I’d never really heard of before – “Niki Lauda”.

  4. Then James Calado, get the money and show Marcus how to drive that piece of garbage to a car. M
