2014 Austrian Grand Prix
Several times this year the team radio broadcasts have given us revealing insights into the growing rivalry between the two Mercedes drivers as they fight for a championship which will surely be won by one of them.
That was true in Austria as well – but with one interesting difference. Nico Rosberg wanted a break from the endless stream of information while he worked his way to the front while his team mate stalked him from behind.
Far more messages were heard from Lewis Hamilton’s side of the garage as he tried to make up for a poor qualifying position while grappling with overheating brakes. A lengthy discussion involving him and his engineers before the beginning of the race revealed Mercedes were using less aggressive engine braking settings in Austria.
This had consequences for both drivers in the race as their brakes, which were taking more of the strain of slowing the cars, became too hot. Hamilton was getting warning about this as early as lap ten. And although Rosberg had the same problem, Hamilton found it impaired his ability to gain on his team mate when the two were running at the front of the field in the closing laps.
The pair hit the front after displacing the Williams drivers who had locked out the front row of the grid. Felipe Massa dropped to fourth having been leading before his first pit stop, and in the final stint his team were concerned about covering off the threat from Alonso, who made his final pit stop late.
Williams succeeded in keeping Alonso at bay, but other teams’ radio communications did not go so smoothly. Nico Hulkenberg had to asked for a clarification when Force India issued team orders using somewhat euphemistic language.
But that was nothing compared to the mess at Sauber. The team had already made one disastrous mistake by sending Esteban Gutierrez out of his pit box with one wheel not properly attached. They then made matters worse by telling their driver to stop – but broadcasting the instruction to his team mate instead.
An unhappy Adrian Sutil grumbled about the time he lost getting on the brakes before realising the message was meant for the other Sauber.

2014 Austrian Grand Prix team radio transcript
|PR||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Do you need a flap adjust? Let us know, stop in the box if you do.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Half a turn out, please.|
|PR||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK so down half a turn please, Rob. Down half a turn.|
|PR||Nico Hulkenberg||Brad Joyce||[Unclear] good I think the clutch torque transfer [unclear] as on the first start. Also the initial bite felt less although it went deeper.|
|PR||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Copy that, Nico.|
|PR||Bernie Collins||Jenson Button||And Jenson more cooling please, and test your drinks.|
|PR||Jenson Button||Bernie Collins||OK.|
|PR||Bernie Collins||Jenson Button||And the guys will pick you up at the back of the grid.|
|PR||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Do you need a front wing adjust?|
|PR||Valtteri Bottas||Jonathan Eddollls||No feels OK. Bit of understeer in low speed but high speed low speed’s quite OK. I’ll try one more lap.|
|PR||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Copy that.|
|PR||Marcus Ericsson||Angel Baena||My lap is not too bad, it’s a bit understeery high speed but I think it’s just because the tyre’s going to come in the front end so I think the balance we should keep.|
|PR||Angel Baena||Marcus Ericsson||OK Marcus I’m on my way to the grid. I’ll see you in about two, three minutes.|
|PR||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK this time to the grid, to the grid.|
|PR||Daniel Ricciardo||Simon Rennie||At the moment rears out of low speed is a little bit weak. So traction’s a bit poor out of two. But then through the high speed quite a bit of understeer for now.|
|PR||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||OK understood. So that might be warm-up. Round to the grid, please, round to the grid. Can you still smell fuel, question?|
|PR||Daniel Ricciardo||Simon Rennie||A little bit. It’s toned down.|
|PR||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||OK understood. When you stop, be no bite points. P1 for ten seconds and then P0 please.|
|PR||Between engineers on Vergne’s radio
OK Olly front flap minus one half.
|PR||Between engineers on Raikkonen’s radio
A couple of drivers have complained about high-speed understeer on the way to the grid. I don’t know what Kimi said. But for your information, a few other people complained about it.
|PR||He said that the balance was OK for him. But we take off half on the grid.|
|PR||Between engineers on Alonso’s radio.
OK comments from Fernando: No front locking. Much less than yesterday. Front was a bit better today. The grip seems to be OK. Fernando asked if we should change the track balance pre-load because we don’t have front locking. Let me know, it was just a suggestion, nothing like he wants to do that.
|PR||I was exactly about to tell you, Andrea, I would like to do multi-function BBM position three, we are in two, we went rearward yesterday, I will come back to the standard. So multi-function BBM position three. For the corner two I see some rear locking. I think the right switch will help in that situation.|
|PR||Romain Grosjean||Ayao Komatsu||Grosjean is starting from the pit lane.
What do you think, when we start the car should I move into the maximum line and then maybe I can see the big screen?
|PR||Ayao Komatsu||Romain Grosjean||Yeah if you can move to that side slot where you did the practice start. Basically wherever the best grip is.|
|PR||Romain Grosjean||Ayao Komatsu||Ah it’s in front of you is… later you go, better it is. So if you go almost where the car is, just before the line, that’s where it is|
|PR||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK so in terms of aero balance Nico is half a turn more forwards on aero balance. But he is two front bars stiffer. So more forward on mechanical, more understeer mechanically, but he has half a turn more aero balance. He is reporting car is quite oversteery at the moment. That’s where he’s at.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Yep. So the feeling on that run, on those out-laps, is that brake balance is too far forward.|
|PR||Jock Clear||Lewis Hamilton||Affirm, you were up at plus two then.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Jock Clear||Yeah so I think for the first run I need to bring it back to what I did in the first session, so I’m going to bring it back to zero.|
|PR||Jock Clear||Lewis Hamilton||Affirm, bring it back to zero. B-mig four I think is OK, yep.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Jock Clear||And I’ll do the bite point two, erm EB [engine braking] two, sorry.|
|PR||Jock Clear||Lewis Hamilton||Affirm. And can we go strat mode one please on the grid. You’ll be going to strat mode five after you’ve done the bite-point find on the grid. That’s on the real grid.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Jock Clear||OK and just for the first corner, come back on the EB [engine braking]? Er, sorry, come back on the b-bal [brake balance]? For rearwards bias, first two corners.|
|PR||Jock Clear||Lewis Hamilton||Depends on how you feel the tyre is warming up. If you feel the fronts are nice and warm and they feel like they’re waring up easily, then yes come back one. But if not… Er, sorry, then you can stay where… If the fronts are slow to warm up then yeah come back to minus one.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Jock Clear||OK.|
|PR||Jock Clear||Lewis Hamilton||I think for the first couple of stops it’s not a bad idea to come back to EB [engine braking] three. Don’t forget these EB levels are lower than normal. So EB two that you’ve got now is sort of EB one-and-a-half in the past. So EB three would have been EB two at other races and on Friday.|
|PR||Lewis Hamilton||Jock Clear||Agreed, yeah. Now it’s pushing on quite a lot so…|
|FL||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||OK Daniel three cars on [soft tyres] of interest: Button 11th, Maldonado 13th and Perez in 16th [actually 15th], OK? Three cars on [soft].|
|FL||Unknown||Sebastian Vettel||Vettel suffered a power unit failure on the second lap, at this point Red Bull seem to have had no indication it was about to happen.
Engine is good, gearbox is good and battery is good.
|FL||Bernie Collins||Jenson Button||OK Jenson we still need eight. And can we have Yellow G3 and HPB mid position.|
|1||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||And cancel RS, cancel RS.|
|3||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||Charge ten, charge ten. Yellow, Sebastian is slow on the right-hand side down to turn three. Vettel is slow on the right-hand side.|
|4||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||I lost drive, I lost drive. Tell me what to do please. Please tell me what to do.|
|4||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||We’re looking at it, we’re looking at it.|
|4||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||I have no throttle response.|
|4||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||Understood, we’re looking at it mate. Cars are in turn one.|
|4||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||Engine still running, please tell me what to do.|
|4||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||Turn it off, just pull over and turn it off. Pull over and turn it off. Cars back straight now coming at you.|
|4||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||OK, for some reason I got drive again.|
|7||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||Do not use overtake. Do not use the overtake button at all, do not press overtake.|
|7||Daniel Ricciardo||Simon Rennie||OK I haven’t pressed it.|
|7||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||Yeah OK understood, we see you haven’t pressed it yet. But do not press it for the rest of the race, please.|
|7||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||OK Sebastian so you know we think the failure is due to the use of the overtake button so do not use overtake. OK Sebastian, go racing, go racing.|
|7||Nico Hulkenberg||Brad Joyce||Rears are struggling.|
|7||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Copy that Nico, copy that.|
|8||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Keep looking after the rear-left, we have to look after the rear-left tyre. Try diff entry four.|
|8||Kimi Raikkonen||David Lloyd||No response heard.
Is my DRS working because I’m very close and I don’t get by.
|9||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||We need to keep looking after the rear-left exit turns one, two and three. Obviously keep short-shifting where possible.|
|9||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||OK Checo super-soft tyres runners suffering with rear graining. OK so just manage the tyres at the moment. Checo, information: Ricciardo has been instructed not to use the overtake button and his DRS button may not we working. So possibility ahead.|
|10||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis front brakes again over limit. Just have a think about the compromises.|
|10||Adrian Sutil||Marco Schupbach||My graining is getting really bad.|
|10||Marco Schupbach||Adrian Sutil||Copy Adrian, keep pushing.|
|11||Xevi Pujolar||Jean-Eric Vergne||OK racing Ricciardo and Dany ahead, Grosjean behind.|
|12||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||This wasn’t the only time Rosberg asked for less feedback during the race.
Close the gap to Bottas.
|12||Nico Rosberg||Tony Ross||Stop talking to me Tony, please.|
|12||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Strat two, cancel magic, RS.|
|12||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Felipe, any flap adjust for the next tyre set?|
|12||Felipe Massa||Andrew Murdoch||At the moment is OK, I don’t feel any understeer which is causing me a problem.|
|13||Craig Gardiner||Esteban Gutierrez||Kill the tyres Esteban and box this lap. We go to [soft]. Front wing by default will be plus two, confirm.|
|13||Esteban Gutierrez||Craig Gardiner||Copy.|
|14||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK Felipe we’ll box, we’ll box at the end of this lap.|
|14||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||So box, box.|
|14||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Give me feedback on tyres, do you want a front wing adjust for the next stop.|
|14||Valtteri Bottas||Jonathan Eddollls||Tyres still got distance but not that many laps left, maximum five. No flap adjust.|
|14||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Copy that, we’re still gapping to those that we’re going to drop out near, so this is looking good.|
|15||Adrian Sutil||Marco Schupbach||Sauber released Gutierrez from his pit box too soon and the message telling him to stop was accidentally broadcast to Sutil, who slowed down before being told to get going again.
Yeah I lost seven seconds for nothing.
|15||Marco Schupbach||Adrian Sutil||Adrian, understood, we are sorry, keep pushing.|
|16||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||Raikkonen in the pits. So the cars that have stopped are around you. Button ahead on [softs], Maldonado behind on [super-softs].|
|16||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||We need a half-a-second a lap Nico so just try to push up to Magnussen if you can.|
|18||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Checo whilst we’re not losing time to Rosberg then I’m happy to keep him behind if you can. But do not compromise your race to keep Rosberg behind, OK? Just keep pushing as you are.|
|18||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||OK Daniel we need to keep up the pace. Cars ahead still haven’t stopped, they’re going to be close to us at the pit lane exit.|
|18||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||x
I appreciate you’re in a bit of a limbo because essentially we’re waiting for a Safety Car. Just do your pace without destroying the tyres, that’s the best advice I can give you.
|19||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||x
OK Lewis, two laps with front brakes over limit, do what you can to manage.
|19||Daniel Ricciardo||Simon Rennie||Just can’t lean on the front tyres. Every time I try to get into the corner they just wash away.|
|20||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||OK Jenson we are looking at target minus three.|
|20||Francesco Nenci||Jules Bianchi||We have hot front brake temperatures. Brake balance minus four clicks on the dash.|
|21||Angel Baena||Marcus Ericsson||Kamui braking later two, three and five. You can improve exit nine.|
|21||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis you can have a few stabs with overtake but use it wisely. We aren’t safe.|
|22||Jenson Button||Dave Robson||What times are the chasing pack doing?|
|22||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||Jenson, Mid-to-high 14s. Kevin last lap 1’14.6.|
|22||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis just think about those front brakes again, they are going up.|
|23||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis let’s lay off the overtake for a bit. We’ll just get that ESS up, get this battery charge back up.|
|23||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||I have plenty of pace. Can I charge it more?|
|23||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Yeah we’ll look into it Lewis, we are on the limit though at the moment.|
|23||Gary Gannon||Max Chilton||OK Max let’s try and use the tyre to keep Kobayashi behind, use the tyre. We’ll adjust our plan and use the tyre.|
|24||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis I know the position you’re in but if you can do a little bit of lift-and-coast to help these brakes that would help.|
|24||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Checo just give me a front wing adjust for the next stop, please.|
|24||Sergio Perez||Gianpiero Lambiase||I’m OK to keep it.|
|24||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Copy.|
|25||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||OK Jenson Yellow G3 and fuel zero. If the tyres will take it, fuel zero, target minus three.|
|25||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||So you’re well inside the limit now on front brakes.|
|26||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||So Checo looking to take everything out of this set at the moment, OK?|
|27||Daniil Kvyat||Marco Matassa||So big problems with the rear tyres.|
|27||Marco Matassa||Daniil Kvyat||Which tyre?|
|27||Daniil Kvyat||Marco Matassa||Rear-right.|
|27||Marco Matassa||Daniil Kvyat||Copy Dany, copy for rear-right.|
|27||Daniil Kvyat||Marco Matassa||I just skipped the turn. [Unclear] No brakes, no brakes. I lost the brake pedal. I have no brakes.|
|28||Romain Grosjean||Ayao Komatsu||We have a big problem with the rear end. It’s huge.|
|28||Ayao Komatsu||Romain Grosjean||OK understood, understood.|
|28||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Roll more speed into turn five and six.|
|29||Simon Rennie||Daniel Ricciardo||How’s the balance?|
|29||Daniel Ricciardo||Simon Rennie||Stabilised. Front’s not getting any worse.|
|29||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Hamilton wants help to get past Bottas but if Mercedes bring him in before Rosberg they might jump him past his team mate.
Need some help, guys, to get past the next car.
|29||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis we’re looking into it. We need to manage it strategically.|
|31||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||Vettel collided with Gutierrez.
OK I damaged my front wing.
|31||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||Understood.|
|31||Sebastian Vettel||Guillaume Rocquelin||Box, box.|
|32||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Rosberg ahead looks slow. OK we need half percent further forwards for brake temperatures.|
|33||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||There a huge difference on the straight.|
|33||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Copy that Lewis. We’ll have a look, see if there’s anything else we can do.|
|33||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Brake info please.|
|33||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Last lap you were over target. Not by much. It doesn’t take much management.|
|34||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Optimum two, opt-two. More performance.|
|35||Unknown||Sergio Perez||Checo this is [unclear]. Just to confirm you are managing this pace, yeah, this is not degradation we’re seeing?|
|35||Sergio Perez||Unknown||Nico in front is a problem. Can you get him out of my way?|
|35||Unknown||Sergio Perez||Just push up to his DRS and I think you’ll find a way past. OK? Push up to his DRS.|
|35||Sergio Perez||Unknown||After a brief pause.
Losing a lot of time with Nico.
|35||Unknown||Sergio Perez||I think you should DRS him now. I think you’ll DRS him into turn three.|
|36||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Perez is in your DRS, Perez in your DRS. Perez on a different strategy to you.|
|36||Nico Hulkenberg||Brad Joyce||Clarify that message for me.|
|36||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Copy that, Nico. Message for you: Perez in your DRS.|
|36||Nico Hulkenberg||Brad Joyce||Just let me know do you want me to let past or not?|
|36||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Copy that yes, strategy different, let him past.|
|37||Guillaume Rocquelin||Sebastian Vettel||Sebastian box this lap, we’re going to retire the car. Box, box, we’re retiring the car.|
|38||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||You’re doing a good job Nico, you’re doing a good job. The lap times are looking good for the age of tyre.|
|39||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||HPP eleven to one, push hard now.|
|39||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis it’s hammer time.|
|39||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Start to close the gap down to the cars in front.|
|40||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Increase your pace if you can. Push up to Rosberg.|
|40||Valtteri Bottas||Jonathan Eddollls||The tyres can’t take many laps more if I push more.|
|40||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||That’s fine, push.|
|40||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Push hard now.|
|40||Nico Rosberg||Tony Ross||Do not repeat.|
|40||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Not immediately after the previous message.
Box, box, box.
|42||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Rosberg leaves the pits.
So it’s important to look after these tyres just to get them to the end of the race. Rear temperatures 14, fronts 15.5.
|43||David Lloyd||Kimi Raikkonen||Warning turn eight, warning turn eight. Do not go off the track.|
|44||Felipe Massa||Andrew Murdoch||Massa wants to pit.
|44||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||No, stay out, stay out for the minute, we’re just managing the traffic behind so stay out.|
|44||Rob Smedley||Andrew Murdoch||Yeah we won’t let him get in there, in a window where we can jump us.|
|44||Felipe Massa||Andrew Murdoch||I have no rear tyres any more.|
|44||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Copy that Felipe, understood.|
|44||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||So you have 30 laps remaining so looking after the tyres. Lewis next car behind, 2.5 seconds.|
|44||Nico Rosberg||Tony Ross||So who am I racing, what do I have to do?|
|44||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||You have to keep Bottas out of your window. He should be out of your window and then you’re racing Lewis to the end.|
|44||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Brakes are OK, yeah?|
|44||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Yeah brakes are under control now plenty safe at the moment so just keep managing them.|
|45||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK Felipe we need you to push at the minute, we need you to push to match Alonso. OK go engine mode position four and we need to be targetting low 13s on lap time.|
|46||Xevi Pujolar||Jean-Eric Vergne||OK push now, no lift off. Push now for four fuel laps.|
|47||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||So you’re currently in position four. Alonso is needing but he needs to stop again so you’re reality position three. Just get to the end on this set of tyres, everything looking good. Tyre management looks good at the moment, Valtteri. Brakes, everything, all under control.|
|47||Valtteri Bottas||Jonathan Eddollls||No response heard.
What’s the gap to the car behind?
|47||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Now’s the time to push please Checo.|
|48||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Perez did need to pit again, as at this point he had not yet used the super-soft tyres.
We think Perez needs to stop again.
|48||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||OK come on Checo come on mate, now’s the time.|
|49||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK Felipe we’ve cleared Alonso. We need engine mode position six.|
|49||Sergio Perez||Gianpiero Lambiase||How is the pace at the moment?|
|49||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||It’s stable. We’re very close to Hulk’s pit window but we also have Ricciardo behind that we need to watch. We need a bit more if we can. We’re matching their lap times. They’re obviously on fresher tyres. But anything more that you can give.|
|50||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK keep looking after the rear tyres. We’ll need these tyres at the end to protect from Alonso. So Alonso’s four seconds behind at the minute.|
|50||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||So gap at 1.4. Nico a tenth faster sectors two and three.|
|50||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Does he have a brake issue like me or not?|
|50||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||You are both in the same position so it will need management. So losing a little bit of time in turn six and eight. Just have a think about your diff high speed.|
|51||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||OK Jenson we are in the window.|
|52||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||The end of the last stint rear tyres were looking a little better for you so may have an opportunity at the end of this race.|
|52||Brad Joyce||Nico Hulkenberg||Right Nico we need to push up to Magnussen now if we can. This is a critical stage in the race. Fast as you can to the end now.|
|53||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Pace?|
|53||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||So just losing out six and seven. Gap is at 1.6. And brakes are good. So apex speed five and six, just Nico carrying a little more.|
|54||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||OK Jenson we are going for our target lap.|
|55||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Same lap times as Magnussen or losing a tenth at the moment, OK. At the moment we’re in Hulk’s pit window, so we will come out ahead of Hulk, so we’ll be pushing to fight Magnussen at the end of the race. Just keep pushing on this set.|
|55||Jenson Button||Dave Robson||What sort of times is Kimi doing?|
|55||David Lloyd||Kimi Raikkonen||We are racing Button, we need two tenths per lap.|
|55||Kimi Raikkonen||David Lloyd||Yeah give me some more power.|
|55||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||Very similar lap times to you. Kimi last lap 13.7.|
|56||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Racing Hulk on the exit. Magnussen will be six seconds ahead.|
|56||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||So front left brake over limit. Just have a think about that B-bal.|
|57||Mark Temple||Kevin Magnussen||Jenson immediately in front is the only car that needs to pit. Grosjean is a backmarker. We are effectively P6, Perez is +5.5 on new [super-softs].|
|58||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Brakes now on the limit. Losing a little bit on braking two and three but that may be management.|
|59||Dave Robson||Jenson Button||Box this lap.|
|60||Ayao Komatsu||Romain Grosjean||Identified it as something to do with tyre warm-up [unclear].|
|61||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Blue flags, blue flags!|
|61||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||We hear you, Lewis.|
|61||Jean-Eric Vergne||Xevi Pujolar||I lost all my brakes. The brakes are gone.|
|62||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||OK Alonso is in DRS range. Look after the tyres on exit. We have a higher top speed than him. Should be OK.|
|63||Francesco Nenci||Jules Bianchi||He’s on [soft], don’t forget.|
|64||Ayao Komatsu||Romain Grosjean||Stop using top light into turn three.|
|64||Lewis Hamilton||Peter Bonnington||Guys give me some updates on where I can be quicker.|
|64||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||Yeah copy that Lewis we’ll just get a couple of clean laps, mostly traffic that’s been hurting you. Mainly turns five and six, we’ll give you more information soon. So braking at turn two and three, where you are managing, and turn five and six.|
|65||Adrian Sutil||Marco Schupbach||For some reason the balance changed, I can’t get it under control.|
|66||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Perez passes Magnussen on the run to turn two.
OK Checo so I’m going to leave this to you. When you think you are close enough and ready for a pass on Magnussen you will have two laps in succession in mode two. But use it wisely, OK? Don’t use it until you really think you’re close enough.
|66||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Nice job Checo, nice job mate. So let’s pull clear of the DRS and then we’ll bring this home.|
|68||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||So remember slower in for faster exits, generally.|
|69||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Alonso twelve seconds ahead with four laps to go. You are one second faster per lap but it’s not enough. Not enough at this stage Checo, don’t worry. Just bring it home, mate.|
|69||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis four laps remaining and you are strat six to the end.|
|69||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||So Nico stay in strat six, both cars will stay in strat six to the end.|
|70||Nico Rosberg||Tony Ross||Can I use overtake?|
|70||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Nico you can use overtake.|
|71||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Final lap. Seven seconds to the car in front and six to the car behind.|
|71||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||OK Lewis you are free to use overtake but stay in strat six. Strat six, just keep managing these brakes. So you can use overtake to the end of the race, that gap’s at 1.1, nearly within DRS. OK Lewis other car’s using overtake, suggest you do the same.|
|VL||Tony Ross||Nico Rosberg||Great job Nico, great job. Go strat one and pick up rubber. Good job.|
|VL||Nico Rosberg||Tony Ross||Woohoo! Yeah! Come on!|
|VL||Paddy Lowe||Nico Rosberg||Great job Nico, fantastic win.|
|VL||Nico Rosberg||Paddy Lowe||Thank you Paddy, awesome stuff.|
|VL||Paddy Lowe||Nico Rosberg||That was a difficult one.|
|VL||Peter Bonnington||Lewis Hamilton||No response heard.
Great stuff there Lewis that was an excellent recovery, excellent recovery mate. Really well driven, well managed, know it was a tough one.
|VL||Jonathan Eddollls||Valtteri Bottas||Yes P3 Valtteri, great job. Mega job. Unbelievable drive.|
|VL||Valtteri Bottas||Jonathan Eddollls||Yes! Thank you guys! This means so much to me. Thank you. Everyone of you are so good guys, working so hard. We went the right way. Thank you, thank you, thank you.|
|VL||Andrew Murdoch||Felipe Massa||Great job Felipe, great job, P4. Good job from your side managing the tyres to the end.|
|VL||Rob Smedley||Felipe Massa||Well done Felipe that was a good race. I know you probably will be slightly disappointed with that but they were good points. Well done, thank you for driving very sensibly as well in that last stint, we needed it. Well done mate. Good lad.|
|VL||Gianpiero Lambiase||Sergio Perez||Really well done Checo, really pleased for you mate. P6 and the pace to challenge for a podium. Well done.|
|VL||Sergio Perez||Gianpiero Lambiase||Let’s keep doing what we’re doing. And let’s avoid the other mistakes that hurt us in quali. Good job.|
|VL||Mark Temple||Kevin Magnussen||I think you did a really good job managing the tyres through there. Unfortunately the [super-soft] hurt us at the start which meant we weren’t able to race the Force India in front and missed out on sixth. But I think you did a very good job managing the tyres and had very good pace, and did well yesterday, so well done.|
|VL||Kevin Magnussen||Mark Temple||Well done guys, well done.|
