  1. Good to see McLaren-Honda being just outside of the points on pace.

Wait, did I just say good?

    1. They are stadily improving. Good on them, and who knows? – maybe Alonso’s decition will be proven a good one down the line.

    2. Button managed to do 20 laps over three days, how is this any good?

  2. Alonso missed the points for just a little… Ricciardo’s engine broke just in time! :Ρ

    1. Just 3.9 seconds.. one more lap or two needed given Massa’s lack of pace..

      1. Indeed, almost in the points!

      2. @fastiesty Nope. Just another 100m. Ricciardo would have been out.

        1. @mashiat Heh, true, but he would only have lost one position as those behind Grosjean were all lapped.

  3. Very bad dat for Vettel and happy for Raikkonen, Forza Ferrari :)

    1. Ferrari missed out on 2 points today.

      1. Yes, only two points but now he’s only third in the championship.

  4. Both Manors made it to the end? I’m guessing more than a few laps down but still something good for them to hang their hat on and build from.

    1. And last race.

    2. and they were actually shown on tv during qualy and the race. is Bernie warming up to them now?

  5. Hamilton, Kimi, Bottas and Perez were incredible today, very good race, but not better than 2014.

    1. Glad for the spoiler alert. This Pérez/Raikkonen/Montoya/Power fan is at the IndyCar race in Long Beach.

  6. I knew ferrari didn’t have the pace. Bahrain is very testing of Ferrari’s weakness, which is the PU, until now this was not significant. Obviously the PU is miles better than the previous one, especially during the 2015 race. In qualifying it’s also a factor watching the Vettel and Ham lap you could see that on qualifying there’s the same issue right on the start finish straight Merc is a step ahead. In spite of degradation Ferrari had no answer but the fact that Ferrari’s reliability seems to be in check as ever even if Ferrari chose to introduce an all new PU this weekend.

    1. +1
Despite all the upgrades to there PU, they are still down on Mercedes PU. Hopefully they can get 20% more HP in Canada ( as they are expecting) and certainly give a closer fight to the Mercedes.

There was a comment yesterday that Ferrari PU is equal to Mercedes PU because of their topspeed in Speed trap. This race again proved that they are not equal but not too far away as well.

      1. @peartree @mjf1fan Ferrari introduced a new ICE and not a PU. The other components are the same from the previous 4 races.

20% upgrade will not happen. Even only considering the ICE power (around 650HP if I am not wrong) that would mean 130HP increase. They will decimate the competition if that happens. They were talking of 20-30 HP increase for Canada upgrade.

Ferrari could have pit Kimi a lap earlier and maybe pressured Lewis to concede the win. They wouldn’t have lost 1.5 s to Mercs and gained a couple as well by switching to the faster tire soon. But it is no use telling it in the hindsight. Kimi was their best chance of winning this GP and they lost it by pitting him a lap or two late.

        1. *previous 3; not 4.

        2. @evered7 Yeah I know they changed ICE for this race. I was talking about the whole PU in general terms. And yes, it is expected to increase about 20-30HP with Canada update. I was wrong about 20%.

You are again right about suggesting Kimi to pit a lap earlier, but in hindsight it is not useful.

        3. @evered7 I didn’t knew what part was new as in same spec but unused. I reckon the Mercs didn’t change any of the parts specifically for this race, Lewis was on the 2nd control unit already. Anyhow Ferrari is still quite not there yet. thanks for the info though.
@key75 The speed trap figure is affected by DRS and slipstream use, which is much more easily seen on cars fighting for the lower positions of the race because of that you may not have any data from leading cars also the leading cars might have the luxury of saving the machine. Speed trap figures aside just watch the comparison of Lewis and vettel’s lap, just on the start finish straight the Merc gaps the Ferrari.

      2. @mjf1fan Speed trap says otherwise!! Ferrari was faster on speed… Ferrari is missing more downforce.

        1. And I’m speaking like a robot… sorry about that lol

        2. @key75
That speed must have been combination of full ers discharge + drs + slipstream of bottas ( I think when he locked his wheels at turn 1 while trying to overtake Bottas). It’s true, Ferrari are missing downforce in comparison to Mercedes as they were slow in S2 which requires downforce, but their PU is still not efficient (the whole process – restoring and discharging ers, torque etc) as Mercedes PU. Ferrari PU is definitely miles better than their last year PU, but still somewhat behind Mercedes PU.

No need to say sorry about that. :)

  7. Good race for Perez, have to say that I didn’t really see entirely how he got there, but did see him in top ten for most of the race, so did he just get a good start+first stint?

    1. And what happened to Hulkenberg? I though he was ahead of Perez the whole race and now I see he only finished 13th.

  8. Will Ricciardo get some sort of penalty for only just finishing the race?

    1. @ultimateuzair No. He must get into trouble because of the reduced allocation but otherwise he’s fine as the FIA safeguards unfortunate failures such as Ricciardo’s engine blowing up, if it had been a gearbox I wouldn’t be able of answering your question.
